I saw the ad on RacingJunk a while back, but as you found out, the seller didn't share a whole lot of information on it. It's listed as a "GS Sport Wagon", but I'm sure a previous owner just installed the "GS" badges.
There maybe some information somewhere on the NHRA archive site, or maybe a call to the Division 4 office could help locate the original owner(s) and get you some more history on the car. It looks really nice from the picture you posted! Good luck and I hope you get a chance to bring another 'wagon "back to the track"! UPDATE - I did a little more investigating and learned that the gentleman who original raced this 'wagon was Bobby Dee Myers, who raced in Division 3. Sadly he passed away in June of 2012, but hopefully one of his many friends here on ClassRacer will be able to share their memories of Mr. Myers and his 'wagon. |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
I pitted beside this car at Ennis 2005 divsional can't remember his name, but if you can find qualifying sheet it will be the only green Buick O/SA on the sheet! Guy said he lived in Ft. Worth.

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Googled his name and Bobby Dee Myers owned this car til at least 2011 and apparently won O/SA class at US Nationals in Indy back in '85 with this car !

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Lyn Smith knows everything about this car. I haven't seen it in D 3 in ages.....
|
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Guys, Ed O'Brien (you remember him?) had the car in Div 7 in about 2002-2005.
He still kept his Ok. number. C W Hoefer won the Speedworld Open with it, I think twice, driving for Ed. I believe Ed sold it to the guy in Texas. One thing for sure ..Ed O won't be replying to this thread. |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Teddy, how ironic of you to bring up Ed O'Brien......on Mothers Day......

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Thanks for the help gentlemen ! Nice to start piecing together a little bit about the cars history. Anyone have contact info for Lyn Smith ? I tried googling info on Bobby Dee Myers and found a little info- but where did you find the class win at Indy in 85 ?

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Could be Rodney Parks from Ft. Worth, his NHRA # was 4361........
I think he sold it to a guy from Waxahachie or that area... |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
My brother bought it from a guy in Alvarado Texas, I believe it was raced by a guy name of Mike (don't remember his last name) worked at a machine shop in Fort Worth. I think his last name was Foster?

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
I raced it at Winternationals around 2004 or 2005 with CW driving it in 1st round
in stock. Never saw it in Div. 7 after that ( O'Brien hated my guts even then). |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Rodney Parks
Eric Sandlin Mark Foster Brad Young Have all either owned or drove it since early 2000's here in DFW area. Been sitting a bit these last couple years, was at Ennis last month but a good car for the money. Be a good car to dive into the stock world, or a good car for the wagon lovers. |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Bobby used to bracket race that car at Assumption, IL back in the late '70s early '80s. Only 13:50 car I ever saw leave with the front wheels 3 feet in the air.

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Another one of Bobby's tricks was to run about a half dozen oil pan gaskets between the 350 buick pan and engine.Made his own "legal deep sump pan".LOL Also had a bread box size box added to the rear end cover on the 12 bolt .That ended up burning up the r and p on the near 4000lb wagon though.

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
You know, Bobby was willing to try about anything to get that big old car faster, and this was back in the days when running a 350 Buick was about unheard of. He had to have been one of the pioneers for heavy Buicks in Stock. And running down in the classes like O and R didn't bother him any.
Me being local and working in the same town as him, during numerous visits to his speed shop for some spirited bench racing, he used to share stories about all kinds of crazy things he was trying on the car, some stuff that had failed miserably, or a few secret tidbits he was then trying to get away with! I had to marvel about some of the things he tried, he definitely thought "outside the box". His "sandwich oil pan gasket" trick was typical, as was the "breadbox rear end cover". Rule book didn't say you couldn't!! But in retrospect, he's a whole lot of the reason I ever gave thought thought to jumping into this arena with the rest of you crazies! Miss you Bobby D.... |
Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Bobby was never shy about using the brakes on the big end. I remember Bobby sending lots of tire smoke in the air and getting a little out of shape at Coles County Drag Strip. He got DQ'd because of it and Bobby was not happy!

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
I remember one time he had a brand set of Moroso 7.60 fronts on his car and he flat sided them so bad you could hear his car go flop ,flop ,flop when he drove past your pit .LOL

Re: Anyone recognize this O/SA Buick Sportswagon ?
Now I know why I always got such a screamin' deal on his used front runners...:)
