"Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Classic
9 Attachment(s)
Yeah I know its only Wednesday, but parking and tech was open for this weeks Dutch Classic today, so I said what the heck and headed over to the Grove.
I have to say D1 came through again this week. Opening tech early is something they did not have to do, but Dave Ley was out here from late morning until the evening getting anyone teched in that got here early or were already here from the national event. There was a surprising amount of cars out today and I got some photos for everyone. Weather today was as perfect as you can get with temps in the lower 70's and no wind to speak of. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same as today and I ran into three people going for records tomorrow. I talked to Jim Boudreau, he will be going for the B/SA record. Adam Kerr will be trying for the A/SA and AA/SA record. John Kakalecik will be going for the SS/CA record in his beautiful 70 hemi cuda. I'm sure there will be more cars going for records, the conditions look good for tomorrow, it should be a fun day. |

Good morning all - First things first - boy oh boy, am I going to pay for the boss opening up this thread before me - its never happened before and believe me it won't again as my Christmas bonus is now in limbo .
Second - looking out my window its the perfect day we were looking for last week- you know - sunshine ,blue skies , temps in the low fifties and most of all no sign what-so-ever of rain . Today will consist of test n tune with NHRA National Record runs tossed in and hopefully Ken and I will have some news and great photos to share with our members and guests . The gates just opened for parking etc . but I'm not sure what time tech will start . Back a little later ............... |

Here are some more photos as racers get ready for the test and tune, it should be starting in about 15 minutes. Weather numbers for today are good, but I have seen better at this race. Temp 65 Humid 62% Bar 29.56 Vapor Pressure .3978 Water Grains 58.5 DA 1478 Wind - not a factor |

No 454 Camaro's were built. Would have been cool if they did.

Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
I ran the 2nd session, so I did not get any times, but I heard Jim Boudreau went 991
I believe Wayne Totaro went 10.07in B/S and10.13 later and I think he had an R on his car. some rd 3 tt times Pc Richards Camaro in B/SA 10.27 Miranian SS/DA 9.41 Jack Matyas 9.60 Ford A/S 10.27 Ficacci d/s 10.41 Ficacci sr A/S 9.98 DeMarzo H/SA 11.22 Petras G/S 10.93 that maybe the record Kier A/SA lifted, don't know if he has backed up his earlier run Francois Perard B/sa (not positive on his class) 10.49 Parker g/sa 10.86 Hertline ss/fa 9.54 Roell FSSG 9.45 Riley ss/ea 9.44 Fezell 8.48 Hoven d/sa 10.55 Miele aa/sa 9.87 I think I saw John Armstrong go 8.66 this morning 1 st session It is now mid 70 's temp wise, not a great baro. lots of cars here that are not making runs for various reasons. it is $75 to run today, I spent the money because I wanted to make a few runs and there is a chance for some rain tomorrow. It can be much faster here, but the weather comfort wise is fantastic. A slight breeze has picked up, maybe a slight tail wind. I am running my Camaro in g/s with a spare motor, happy to go 11.24 and 11.22 they are now up to 5th rd of time trials, and it is 2pm they have been running stock and super stock together all day, I doubt there will be a q sheet for today. |

Thanks Dave for keeping everyone up to date. I know 8 records that were set, tear will be tomorrow. The best shot of the day for records was this morning. Weather numbers now are as follows. A nice comfortable day for racing but not ideal for records.
I talked to Jim Boudreau, he said he went a 9.91 but that was in the slowest part of the day. He will try again tomorrow if the weather holds out. I'm sure me, Jack or Dave will have all the numbers and names for records as soon as they are done with tear down. Temp 76 Humid 40% Bar 29.53 Wind none to speak of DA 2150 |

So today was unlike most other Dutch Classics I've attended - no long lines, and it was actually hot this afternoon ,And the weather sucked - no barometer ,no VP and the temperature and humidity was high .With the DA around 2000 there were not many records set .Even with these facts there were those who did OK - and no one bothered to tell David Barton that conditions were not good as he had that bad Challenger flying .If I'm not mistaken he was in FSS/B and went 8.54 @157 ! ! ! Even non Mopar people were inpressed with that Record setting performance .

Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Jack or Ken, With posting the picture of the Portatree Challenger driven by Steve Smyth, that tells me that Team Portatree is on the grounds. A rumor was out there that the /AH Cuda might be there after a number of years being absent. Can this be confirmed?
Hope it's not raining down there as it is pouring up here in Central N.Y. as I write this at 4:50 a.m. God bless all and safe racing. Go Team Portatree. Walt |

Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Good morning gang - Today officially starts the latest edition of the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic and as usual the weather may be a factor this afternoon as rain can be expected according to the forecasters .Outside my window this AM its a bit foggy with plenty of dew on the ground but is likely to burn off in the next few hours .
Time trials are to start off at 9:30 starting off with Stock - the first two sessions will allow racers to make record attempts and back-ups .Today's conditions should be better than yesterdays summer like air and I'm sure many will take advantage . Tech will open in about an hour as well as the scales and fuel check . Back later ............ |
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Air at track this morning
Barometer- 29.39 Temp-62.8 Humidity- 100% DA- 1388 If you think yesterday's air was bad...Looks like whatever records were set yesterday will be all she wrote at the Dutch this year. I'll post more after my day in the barn.... And yes SS/AH cars ran yesterday but I was pretty busy with my Hemi. I saw no sign of Bucky, but did see the port-a-tree AH car driving around yesterday, so they're here. Gary Wolkwitzs car was low et with David driving. |
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Good morning Jack, and thanks for letting us all know about a great racer and the return of the 'Cuda. An 8.71 isn't too bad for a 1st pass after 5 years. I'll bet there will be some suspension adjustments for the additional
Beshof power. I look forward to those live reports from you and Ken. It certainly keeps us desk drivers sort of content. Being there would be better. Walt |

Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Good morning all,
Starting out nice today, but looks like there may be some precipitation later. The wind has picked up, but it appears to be mostly a cross wind. My guess is that it will be a little slower today, baro is down slightly, temp was 10 degrees warmer over night . The only thing that will help is we start an hour earlier. I heard there are 14 or so Hemi cars, not a bad showing, and by the time we run class and they have the Hemi Penske sponsored shootout (sat) it maybe much faster here. well its 830 and we run at 930, so it is time to get my car warmed up |

Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
It is very humid, and we are seeing some sun to the east, but solid clouds to our west. The baro is dropping steadily, and most seemed to be .03-.07 slower. saw record attempts by a few, Keir may have backed up his record in A, not sure. Boudreau went 996 in B/SA, I think I saw Dave Ficacci go 10.01 in B/SA, Steve Ficacci sr went 10.0 in A/S, their D/S car made a run but I did not get the time. Dean Cook II was in the record lane too.
SS has been called to the lanes now, 1040 am |

Dave said it all, not a good day for record setting. I caught three cars at the top of the staging lanes doing what ever it takes to lower the records.
|
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
They ran all of SS except the Hemi cars which are in lanes, then it started to spit rain, then some big drops started. By the time Iwalked back to my rig, it stpped raining and the sun came out. They maybe resuming running in a few minutes, I think the Hemi cars are still in the lanes 11:50 am
yup they are running them now |
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla

Record is official!! SS/DA record is 9.07 @ 147.05 and SS/CA - 8.897 @ 149.41. First " official" street Hemi To break the 8 second barrier.
The air was not conducive to set records but this Ray Barton Hemi didn't know that!! A big thanks to David and Ray Barton who understand teamwork and gave me enough horsepower to make it happen. THANK YOU !! We made it happen when it counted! |

Nice job John on your SS/CA and SS/DA record. Racing is done for the day, strongs winds and rain have hit the track. It should blow over soon, and the rest of the weekend looks great.
I was trying to get a qualifying sheet from todays action, but the rains came and I did not have enough time. Tomorrows weather will be a lot better so I will make it a point to get a sheet posted. I did see there was 116 stockers on the second sheet, more should be in tomorrow. I tool a few shots in tear down and it looks like all have past. Me or jack should have the numbers up later. I did get three in car videos and have lots of pictures. Check back later I should have it all up. |
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
The track was trying to get everyone 3 TT's, it went smoothly until the front came thru shortly after stock ran their 3rd. It is raining with thunder and lightening now and they must be done for today.
There is a qualifying sheet, hopefully someone will post it ,116 stockers and I think there are 78 SS'ers The AH cars ran again and I saw a couple mid 40's The #1 qualifier in SS is Vic Santos,I think Jeff Lawrence is 2nd The #1 qualifier in stock is George Yago, not sure who was 2nd some of this may have changed as both categories have made another run . Tomorrow will be completely different conditions, we have class eliminations, it should be fun |
Re: "Live From" NHRA - Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Cla
Hey Jack maybe I missed it but what did you break? I saw you go home and return I thought maybe you had fixed the car

Well thats a wrap for sure .As Dave said things were going just fine until the storm hit and that was the end . The NHRA was kind enough to offer a third run but it just didn't happen .At this moment I'm trying to put together a list of record setters and their numbers but until I can verify them I won't put them on this forum .
Shot some pics this afternoon ........... |
