Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series

OK, I can't believe my bad luck is continuing - I not even here an hour and its raining - I don't mind the rain but the verbal abuse is getting old .
Good news ? I'm in lane 3 waiting to get in and hopefully to a great pit spot. More good news - I'm here and Ken isn't - and I'll dock his pay this time . Well the rain has let up and I'm going outside and maybe dig up some dirt ..... And BTW, buying gas and diesel in NJ is like stealing - and as usual the Raceway station on rt18 south |

Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Good morning all - Welcome to day 1 here at Raceway Park .We were to start at 10 am but its doubtful as rain fell most of the evening and the place is soaked .Adding to that is the fact that we don't have any Sun helping us out so who knows but at this moment the Division One crew along with the Raceway Park staff are in drying mode with every piece of equipment available .
Rigs have been rolling in since 7am as there was a pretty big line this morning waiting to get in and get pitted.Tech will be open soon and all will be done in the lanes but must be towed or pushed there as we're not to start engines until 10 . Side note - I've got a bunch of carload entry tickets available - contact me and i'll get them to you .And be sure to thank Gary Richard as these tickets are made available thru P.C.Richard & Son - the Appliance / TV / Electronics / Mattress Giant . Back in a bit ............... |
Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Noon -- And not one car down the track .It hasn't rained all morning and they are still working on the surface - drying , scraping etc .On top off that I've been told ( unofficially) that we will have a shortened schedule once we do get going .Tomorrow there will be no time trials ( except top sportsman and comp ) - everyone will run first round as there is rain coming in the afternoon .The Sun has peeked out several times to help out but not enough.
On another note Ken has promised to get you folks some photos but the line at his autograph table has been lenghty............... |

Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
6 pm curfew on a Friday night at a racetrack? You have to be kidding.
I think NJ needs to update their laws or at leaSt allow an exemption or permit. Of course you can't even BBQ on the porch in Ocean City, so what do you expect. |
Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
This is why I chose to stay home, it has become a joke to try and run a divisional at this track.
|
Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
E-town runs under very strict rules thanks to endless court battles with neighbors.
They built walls and made them bigger and higher....they limit the days Nitro or Jet cars can run....they have early curfews and only so many days per year that they can get a waiver to run those type cars for big events... Last year I won S/C at this event and it was way past the curfew....they got permission to complete the event....Me and my opponent were the last pair down the track on Sunday night and it was close to 9PM... I skipped it this year.....going to Yankee stadium Sunday and even if the weather is iffy they will play and we'll be there..... |
Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
I skipped as well (family obligations). Looks like I made a good decision. Good luck and safe runs to all who are there.

Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
The curfew was extend and everyone got a shot down the track except the top classes and Comp, they get two tomorrow. We finished up some time after 7pm. Here is the qualifying sheet for Super Stock, I will have stock up in a few minutes.

Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
I stopped down today for a while and the weather was ugly. My old bar was huffing getting down the track. I don't know how much trouble cars had getting any bite as I only saw a few go down the track but I noticed they were spraying the starting line around the 7th or so pair of stockers. Not a criticism but only a suggestion, would it be that difficult to put a quad or a pickup and a few personnel behind the moving wall section at finishline? A few stockers had troubled runs and it took a long time to get them off the track. When you're dealing with a 6PM curfew and that many cars it seems that you'de want to speed things along.

Good morning everyone, I will give my morning report as I'm sure Jack will also. No rain yet, but they are calling for chance of thunderstorm as the day goes on. Sunday looks to be over cast with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon.
Weather numbers for today are about the same as yesterday with lots of humidity, the current numbers are... Temp 71 Humid 72% Bar 29.72 DA 1800ft wind light tail The video below is Joe Santangelo driving Arnie Martel's 2012 SS/AS Camaro. Its hard to see from the angle, but Joe was in a wheelstand for quite bit. |

Good morning kids - Well here it is - at this moment the Sun is shining brite and the ducks are quacking outside my window so I guess the world is OK for the time being .But the forecast for later today is not so nice as thunder storms are headed our way this afternoon .
This AM the gates opened at 7 and so far I've watched about a half dozen come thru and as I stated last night they will be teched and placed at the bottom of their ladders . Speaking of last night - I spent some time reading the newest issue of Drag Racing Scene and there was two nice articles by Johnny D - one about Jeff Teuton and another on Dan Fletcher - check them out - great reading. Threw in a few pics from yesterday - see who really like wheat thins enough to bring them to the starting line ..............later |
Re: Live from Englishtown, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Wow. Saw that yellow Calif plate, reminded that in 1960 when I was about six, my parents bought a brand new 60 Chevy Impala hardtop from C.S. Mead Chevrolet on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, later it was Service Chevrolet where you could get your car dyno tuned by Don Nicholson, and the license number was THV 996. Close to that plate above! A few years later, we moved to the scenic Rogue Valley in southern Oregon, that Cal plate got turned in for Oregon license plate 9N 942. Pacific Wonderland plate, as well. Four years later, we moved back, and we lived here ever since in So Cal. After Mom passed in 2007, my brother and I were cleaning out the house and I found both those Oregon plates. One of them is on the back of my Chevelle, the other is on my wagon. Family keepsake, I guess.Incidentally, gasoline in this state, is $3.49 for 87 octane, the premium is 3.79. Every May, gas goes up about 65-80 cents, stays that way all summer, then slowly drops in the early fall.Real nice of them.
