Congrats to Marty Buth on being the first in the 11.50's ...
... with a 4 cylinder Stocker !
At the Class Nationals in the final round of the C.I.C. race, they paired the winner of Stock ( Marty ) against the winner of Super Stock to determine an overall winner. On that final run, Marty made the first ever pass in the 11.50's with a 4 cyl. Stocker and also logged the first 1.49 60 ft. time for a 4 cyl. Stocker. [thumbup] He ran his Mustang 2.3 Turbo in P/SA and the NHRA Index is 13.45. That put him 1.87 seconds under the P/SA index ( another first for a 4 cyl. car ) Well done Marty ! You had your Mustang fly'n ! http://i58.tinypic.com/2nslxxt.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/ve6tk9.jpg edited to add video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgzQHSN0WVk[/ame] |

Big congrats Marty; I didn't get a chance to chat with you at the Class Nationals, but I will make it a point to speak to you at Indy.

Re: Congrats to Marty Buth on being the first in the 11.50's
Just got home from Columbus and saw this post that ALMACK started. I appreciate all the congrats, as this really means a lot to me! The Class Nationals is a very cool event and I was thrilled to make it to the final of the CIC race. Ricky Decker made a great run and got me in the final, so big congrats to Ricky! De De Layer was in the winners circle area when Ricky and I got our awards and pictures taken. Michael made a very touching presentation for De De, and we all were missing Dave Layer being at the race. It was very fitting to name the CIC race the Dave Layer memorial CIC race, because Dave sure new how to make horsepower, and we all miss him.
I appreciate Bob Shaw's kind words about my combination not being soft. It has taken 13 years of working with this combination to achieve the performance level it has now. I am no rocket scientist and most of the improvements have been trial and error, with a whole lot of error.I have been very blessed with the performance of the car. It makes the race so worthwhile when you meet new friends and also see old friends. I met Marty Knox last year and it was great to see him again. I told Marty Knox that there was a special place in heaven for him, since he has to baby sit Billy Nees at the Class Nationals! LOL It is always a treat to see Billy! Billy has such a tremendous wealth of knowledge and is such a treat to hang out with! Thanks to M.J. Quinn for the car cover he is making for me as the stock CIC winner! M.J.'s work is first class! Michael Beard would make a good president for NHRA! Michael is a racer's racer! I sure appreciate Michael and his business partner Anthony Walton! I hope to see many of you at Indy! |

Good job Marty, that thing flies.
Alan, you were laying some good runs in eliminations, thought you might win it the way you were going. I see where Marty Knox and Billy make good travel team. Mike Taylor 3601 |

Re: Congrats to Marty Buth on being the first in the 11.50's
I edited post @#1 to add the 11.58 run video, but here is what happened less than 15 months ago when Marty ran his first 11 second pass.
He was at O/SA weight in this video. ( Last Friday he was at least 165 lbs. heavier on his 11.58 run ) As Marty posted before, he has been working on his 2.3T combo for 13 years. May 2014: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g1AG7E9QEU[/ame] |
