Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
1 Attachment(s)
Good evening boys and girls - Here's the thing - just like the song says - i'm a few days older and certainly deeper in debt since i've last written to you but very glad to be here just the same. And in the 'believe it or not' column here's a new one - the 'boss' made sure there was a spot for me tonight because the place is full .Somewhere in all his kindness toward me I know the other shoe is going to drop - and frankly I've got to be on my guard all weekend as he's pretty sneaky sometimes .Or maybe he's turning over a new leaf....nah - never going to happen ! ! We'll see - I'll keep you informed .
Tomorrow is to be parking - tech - and test n tune .But the weatherman has things in store for us - like hot / sticky weather with temps in the mid nineties and possible thunder storms in the afternoon .Could be a great day to head to the beach - did i mention Atlantic City is only 40 minutes away ? Hmmmmmmm.................... And then there is tech - tomorrow we'll talk about the benefits of getting 'extended tech' for you car . While driving here tonight I decided that because the temps are going to be brutal this weekend I'd better to have plenty of diesel onboard to run the generator and air conditioning so I stopped to fill up near the track .Thing is I don't get it -they sell diesel ( and gas) 80 to 90 cents a gallon cheaper here in New Jersey than in Pennsylvania .And they pump it for you unlike PA where you have to do it .Did I mention the refineries are in Pennsylvania also ???? Something going on ........ We'll talk more in the morning ---- |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Good morning all - Strange - yes,it seems very strange to have the AC running at this early hour but i'll tell you its very much needed already and the day isn't going to get any better as they're still calling for extra muggy weather and thunderstorms this afternoon .
So you're thinking of sliding over here this after and getting yourself some asphalt to park on - forget about that as the place is getting full and a large section of the pits are saved for the incoming Alcohol cars that are racing as this is a Regional event for them . Back a bit later after they start test n tune - and since the boss is here helping me this weekend coverage should be terrific .............. |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Please Keep up with S/S As there will probably be a few SS/AH cars testing &Grade points===fascat

Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
What was nice and cool of Atco last weekend was if you were staying for the LODRS race and ran either Dave's ECSSSA or My Mid Atlantic .90 Events you were allowed to leave the rigs parked in the spot you were all weekend. Some of the Stock / SS guys had to move over from the tower side but, still as long as you left room for the Alky Cars and the Sponsors Len & Joe were cool with it. It was kinda weird seeing tons of motorhome's with no trailers rolling out Sunday Night after the event. I know this helped me out a lot and allows me to work an extra day and not have to take off to rush to find a parking spot today. Thanks Atco for being accommodating to the racers!

Pennsylvania has also seen increases in tolls, registrations, licenses, inspections. PA fuel taxes are slated to rise again in 2017. Maybe if they hadn't spent millions of dollars on giant billboard-sized electronic signs every few mile along I-80. Despite all the revenue, they've been trying to make I-80 a toll road for ages, but the federal government keeps denying them. 12:45 - Not very many takers for the test n tune today even though the track looks good. But its still hot and humid so I understand .And talk about a slow news day .....help ! ! Thundershowers to hit here mid afternoon - and overcast at this moment .
And my run of bad luck continues - last week I entered an online contest with the local cable company to win tickets (4) to see the local Phillies farm team ( Iron Pigs ) in their Picnic Patio - yep , you guessed it - they just called and I won .Problem is tickets are for this Saturday night ............... Think I'll just stay in the coach awhile and watch 'Days of our Lives ' . |

As Jack said, a small turnout for test and tune today. The local weather says its 90, but my weather station says its 93. Even worse are the water grains, 125.6 along with the vapor pressure at .8430. Highest numbers I have ever seen. The DA is 3500ft.
Not many cars were out, but I did find a few. |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
This was posted to the ATCO FB page at about 2pm today.....
ATTENTION RACERS COMING TO PARK FOR THE NHRA EVENT: Due to many conflicts over parking spaces, all racers coming between 8PM tonight and 7AM tomorrow morning will have to park in the field at the 1/4midget track until Friday morning at 7AM. |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
$75 could have something to do with it as well...

Test n tune is over - good thing as the storm is only minutes away .Dark clouds with a breeze ( that feels good BTW ) .Those that did test didn't put up any super numbers .Many spent the afternoon doing chores as the pics will show .
Ali Smyth from Portatree came by with a gift from her garden - just look at the size of these veggies ............ |

Back a bit later ........Today will be a long , very long day as we will be racing into the evening for sure but at least i've got the boss here to help out . |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Thanks Randell for the explanation, that's how I read it also. In know way did I think it was in poor taste. Unfortunately I will remove the posts, it will get of hand and there is no need to go down this road.
I know it will be confusing to some, but I had to remove a few posts. It was getting out of hand and had nothing to do with this thread. Sorry Marty, I don't think you said anything out of line. |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series

1st round of Stock qualifing started a little late as no one seemed to trust the track this morning - but it was fine with only a few high horsepower cars turning a tire .One who didn't was Jonathan's 'Flying Wedge 2 ' who went 9.02 on the track that wasn't trusted .
More info when the sheets come out .SuperStock coming out soon .... |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Judging from your pictures, Daddy Warbuck's probably didn't think the track was too good against Yo Ken's Shelby.
|
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Chris, Ken 1.348 60 ft. Don 2.061 60 ft. Tom
|
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
With that much tire smoke, I am surprised it even did 2.06.
I ran Don once in a time trial at Hagerstown in November at the Lee Sherman Memorial race when he still had the stick in the car. We both had 1.53 60's that day,....but then he was gone. |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Q2 for Stock and Q1 for Super Stock. The top 8 race is still going on in all categories. Qualifying is done for the day for Stk and SS. I have videos to edit and lots of photos, and I hope to get the Q2 SS. I will be back later after I get it all done.

Talk about a long hot day - this was it for sure but plenty of good action in both Stock and SuperStock.Wish I could have spent more time watching and photo taking late in the day but I had to get my stuff back in shape for tomorrows last qualifier and we all know how challenging that has been .
One lone record was set - the COPO Camaro of DeCesaris & Durham set the FS/A record at 8.919 pending tech .I've got a camera full of pics from this team and will do a spotlight on them tomorrow .BTW, Byron Durham is the son of pioneer drag racer Malcom Durham and is surely a chip off his dads block . |

Brett, I'm thinking its an auto when I heard it go down the track. But I know Eric had a stick in the car at one time. I will find out tomorrow.
Here are some random shots of the day. The video is Adam Keir in his AA/SA '70 Nova, Adam ran a 9.84 on this run, the DA was about 2800ft. |

Good morning all - This is the day we've been waiting for -sunshine, blue skies and even though its already a bit warm (76 at this hour) and the humidity is 62% ( which will burn off some) but with the barometer at 29.70 it puts the DA at just over 2100' .
Today we'll all get a final hit then later on its first round for most of us this afternoon and evening . |

SuperStock got their final qualifier and were greeted by 3000' air.As you would guess most were slower .Good news ?? They probably have the biggest S/S field of the year with over seventy entries .
Comp is coming out now for rd 1 and they should be calling Stock soon . |
Re: Live from Atco,NJ - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Rd two of Stock in the books - tailwind/crosswind -temps dropped a few degrees = a few hundreths faster .S/S coming up soon .Can't get much info - not much help from Ken -I'm still in - he hasn't come out of his coach for hours .Hmmmmmm...............Maybe I can unplug his AC unit .............

Good morning - With the late racing last night this reporter just packed it in when we were finished - then got some grub and much needed rest .It was a great idea to try and finish last evening but what a long day with plans that just didn't work out .Most classes got their third round finished and I'm really not sure at this hour which ones completed the race with the exception of Comp that I'm sure had their final .
One thing I can tell you for sure is that their was some fine racing action here at Atco because the track was superb as the NHRA crew combined with the Atco staff stayed on top of things all day and evening . Looking out my window at this time its a bit overcast but they say it'll be sunny soon and the rest of the day .Many teams are headed out the gate as I watch - it was just to much for them to leave last nite and head for the Turnpike . This morning the plan calls for Supercomp out early ( 9 to 9:30 ) with all other cla sses to follow .All that could change but that's were we left off so ............. So late last night the boss hooked up and headed back to Pleasantville .He did nothing but complain all weekend about having to run his generator because of the high heat .This morning I'm looking out my window at the front of his pit spot (pictured below) and am wondering if he bothered to check if things were live (no pun intended ) .Maybe , just maybe - nah , I not going to check - I'll just leave it be as he had a tough weekend .But it was nice for him to be here - extra help is always welcome and he did jump in with some photos and videos .OK, maybe a little extra butter there but you know Christmas is only four months away ............. Back in a few hours ............. |
