Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-Englishtown

Just doesn't seem right - here we are at the E-town Summers and its barely sixty degrees out .Yeah , I know this is better than 95 but it just doesn't feel right if we're not here sweatin' and dying for something cool to drink .

Things are moving a bit slow here as they just got going a little bit ago and it will take the rest of today to get these lines of competitors in and parked.Tech is open and will be all afternoon I'm told .

The boss got to E-town early and is in line #3 so he'll be parked first and hopefully will send you folks some early shots of whats happening .And he should have plenty of time to do just that as this weekend he's a hired "shoe" for Bongiovanni Racing .

Later .............

I miss going to the Summer Nats, Time and distance keeps me from participating. It was always a fun time, win or lose. I hope that all the racers attending, leave that race with great memories of their experiences.

After nothing but rain for the last few days, a little blue sky was most welcome. Tech will be open until 7:30PM today. They are still pulling in rigs, we did get a late start, but things seem to moving well.

I have a few photos from the pits, most cars are in the trail or in the tech line. I did find the schedule for tomorrow, and yes you are reading it right. They is no class for Stock tomorrow, I am assuming it will be on Friday.

Good morning members and guests - Welcome to day one here at E-town and we're not being greeted well to the Summers as its Fall weather here at best .At this moment its only 58 degrees and very breezy with a chill in the air.Good news? The rest of the numbers aren't bad - well , at least some of them .Barometer is a whopping 30.16 along with .32 VP combined with 59 % humidity brings us to 400 ' DA - still not bad for June in New Jersey .All that and its overcast and dreary - but we can make it thru today without any of that wet stuff .

Tech will open in half an hour for those who still need it but no starting engines till 10 am .Stock will lead off qualifing at 10:15 .

This weekend will be a first for me - our gracious host and my 'boss' Kenny saved me a spot - great location and even has electric but here's the thing - I've never pitted next to the pro's so I don't know how it'll go but he tells me its the best .And maybe I can sneak in the back when they're serving some nice grub -time will tell .

Meanwhile the NHRA is out early this AM prepping the track .........

As I said this morning conditions are good here and more than likely the NHRA will find that this is once again a 'mineshaft' .The top sixteen after two Stock sessions are more than a second under and you won't want to hear about the # 1 guy.Either Kenny or I will come up with a sheet and post it for you .

SuperStock is due up again and they too are fast .............

If they run the shootout in the same format as Gainesville he might have shot himself in the foot!

How did they run the format at Gainesville? I guess I thought it was qualified and put on a ladder.

It is my understanding that all of the Shootouts use that format; he just may have shot himself in the foot.

Instead of using the FS/XX 9.90 index and the FS/X 10.15 index in the final; the handicap is based on the best ET that was run by each car as stated below.

2015 Factory Stock Showdown Rules

NHRA Technical Department announces rules for the 2015 Factory Stock Showdown. In addition to these rules, the cars must also meet all requirements as outlined in the 2015 NHRA Rulebook. The competition includes entries from two Stock Eliminator classes with each class running as a separate category within Stock Class Eliminations, and a winner being crowned in each. The two winners will then square off for the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown Championship using a handicapped start, based on the quickest run of each class winner. Each of the two class winners will receive the NHRA Class Wally trophy with the run-off winner being crowned the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown Champion. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact the NHRA Technical Department at

Does the factory shoot out cars effect mineshaft conditions? Are they part of the equation or removed from the rest of the field statistically?

Based on the 2nd round it should be mineshaft conditions and then class could be interesting in the am.

We are all done for the day. I have a bunch of random photos from today. Weather did not change much. These are the average numbers for the day.Temp 61, humid 58%, Bar 30.16, DA 450, tail wind 8-10mph.

Jack has been having some issues with his car, it might be a engine, I'm hoping not, but it looks like his weekend of racing is over. He told me he would be here reporting, he is a good man to stick around.

I have a few videos I will post later tonight.

This is their first national event and they had to rush through tech because stock was already running. If you show up to this race on Thursday it is very tough to get tech'd in because you can't start an engine until 10am and stock is called to the lanes right at 10am. They got tech'd in and rushed up to the lanes without knowing you have to get the credentials and turn in the signed waiver (which was another long line). After the day was over they went to the credentials trailer to handle that and the restricted area passes and were informed that it must be turned in before making a run and they were DQ'd from the event. Very tough break as they were super excited to run their first national event.
