Hurst 3 Speed Shifter For Metric Forward Pattern

To my knowledge I have never seen a Hurst shifter used for a forward pattern 3 speed especially a metric 200 application.......I know Turbo Action is the most used I have ever seen, but is there a defect or complication with a Hurst 3 speed for a metric three speed ????

It's very easy when making 2-3 shift to go all the way into neutral. They work fine with a reverse pattern.

I run a Hurst quarterstick with a forward pattern Ford C4 without any issues.

Does the shifter not stop at a "bump" or "stop" gate or do you actually "place" it in 2-3 and actually push it past 3 by accident ???

Maybe Hurst can make a special "old guys" unit you can just put in "D"...

I use the TurboAction in the Camaro with a metric, but considering changing it out for a PPP shifter soon.

Do I read into that you have to "squeeze" the lever handle to make 2-3 ???

Yes, mine is that way and you can shift past 3rd and into neutral. There is no detent in the shifter to stop it from doing that.

Re: Hurst 3 Speed Shifter For Metric Forward Pattern

When shifting from 1 to 2 you just move the lever to the positive stop. When shifting 2 to 3 you squeeze the handle and move to the positive stop. If the driver does not pay attention and keep the handle squeezed through the 2 to 3 shift it could go to neutral. The handle being squeezed is what allows the lever to move to 3 and provide the positive stop.

After owning a Precision (PPP) shifter, I would not consider anything else.

PPP is a slick shifter, just have always used a TurboAction because with optional gate plate(s) it can be used on about anything and cable direction can be changed very easily (as well as air shift solenoid). Paul also has a "informal" contingency program.

Hey Ed, please elaborate on how this wonderful shifter functions......it has a "lever" too from the picture---is it squeezed on any of the shifts ??? Does it have a detent for each forward gear that prevents shifting past the gear----please elaborate on functional operation......inquiring minds want to know ???

Super easy to use. They are gated so you just move it forward, it shifts and locks in. You only squeeze to put it in 1st gear or downshift. Just a small bump forward and its in the next gear. Super smooth and after using one its hard to want to use anything else. Reverse lock out requires pushing the top down with your thumb and squeezing the handle.

Rusty - I made a video this afternoon of the shifter in action. I'll post it here when I get home from work. Pretty much bullet proof and no fumbling with levers or worries about over-travel.
