Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
 Does anyone else besides me know that the Buckeye Stock Super Stock Race is the same weekend at XENIA Ohio Kil-Kare. That is a Dave Layer Memorial Series Event.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
yes I did after I seen this, I'm still trying to figure it out.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
With the utmost Respect to Dave and Richard, who is putting on this race ? I have never been to K Valley, how far is it from the Dayton area ? M.J.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
I was wondering who is putting on this race as well especially since it overlaps one of the Buckeye races.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
This was the only date that was available that wasn’t conflicting with either
an NHRA or an IHRA event. I would like to apologize to the promotor’s of the Ohio race for the conflict. Dave Layer and Richard Doane were both good friends of mine and I wanted to remember them before too much time had passed. This race is all about them and nothing else. Except maybe having a good time. When was the last time you ran for $2000 and the entry fee was only $50? In answer to one of the questions, the track is about 3 hrs from Dayton, OHIO, straight down 35. We are expecting good cars from NC, SC, KY, VA, Ohio, Michigan, Indy and WV We need guys like Jeremy Duncan, Ricky Decker, Jeff Dona, Dan Jacobs, Steve Belanger, Ryan Haag, Tommy Mattingly, Jerry Silveus, and Rich South, Irvin Johns to only name a few. From the south we need guys like the Warren family the Stott and Volkman families, Ronnie Flynt, The Longhanys, the Sloans, Mike Boyles, Mark Young, Terry Taylor, Donnie Moore Jr, Marvin Dunahoo, Ronnie Skinner, Cam Tingen, Rick Nicolau and Lynwood Daugherty. I helped organize this race but there are some good people behind the scenes. Roger Keeling gt/ca |
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Two great men that contributed to the sport of drag racing and will be missed. I got to meet both through helping my brother with his SS/GT cars. I have heard both names mentioned many times over the years while at the races and not once was a negative comment mentioned. In this day and time this speaks volumes for both men. I rode up to Richards shop with my brother to leave the Old's Calais for some suspension work 15+ years ago. Richard was a great host then as well as every time you met him. Who didn't know Dave, Mr. Head's up. I got a kick out of the Layer Lane banner in the pits at Indy each year. I hope this race has a lot of cars and a good show of support for these men. They have been a part of drag racing for a long time. Don Jackson

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Mike,
It will be a year on May 18th. I was at the Fisher-Titus Hospital in Norwalk, which is a great facility. It was only 10 minutes from the track. The Drs. and staff were very professional and caring. Turns out it was a trauma III center and they were prepared for my problem. I am still taking therapy twice a week and can walk slowly with a cane, can’t drive or lift anything heavy yet. I thought I would be ahead of where I am now, but I guess it just takes time. My wife is an ICU Nurse and that has helped tremendously. I married her for her looks and personality but her skills in the medical field have really paid off. I got to go to the Charlotte race for a few hours and got to see some old friends, and had a good time. I hope we get some good support for the Dave Layer/Richard Doane race. Thanks, Roger P.S. Jimmy Flynt I hope you didn’t laugh too loud when I called you Ronnie. |
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Roger,
Sounds like you married well, hang in there and get well. I don't know if can make it,but would like to I am trying to get those pure stock letters off my windows, but is slow go I have to work on paying jobs first, hopefully sometime this year wil have my engine ready. Did I see it correctly that race will be ran off IHRA indexes,if so I can run fast enough in K/S like I am. Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Hope to have all my "pieces" in the right "places" in time. Had mine apart far too long. This race will be a good one. Hope to see a lot of friends I haven't seen for a while. Thanks to Roger and DeDe for their effort. It will be great to have stock and super/stock back at Kanawha Valley.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Just a reminder for everyone to make plans to get to this race. If you've never been there, Kanawha Valley is a really nice track.
Roger is working hard to pay tribute to Dave and Richard, so come out and support this race! |
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
I was hoping to make it,but I haven't had a chance to even touch my car,it has been sitting with front suspension out and ready to go back together since late October.

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Thanks Roger for putting this race on. Looking forward to attending this weekend.
|
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Roger, I'm not going to be able to attend but would like to still support this race. Could you post an address where I could send my $50 entry fee. I'm sure there are others that would like to do the same. Thanks, Dave Walther

Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Thanks Gene, Mike, and Charley for your comments. Unfortunately,
there is 100% chance of rain on Sat the 27th. We have decided to POSTPONE the race to a later date. I am working with the track owner on another date. This race WILL happen! Thanks to everyone who had planned on coming this weekend. Please call your friends that were coming and let them know. I will be back on here as soon as we can decide on another date, thanks. |
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Good call. I've been looking at weather forecasts all day and all say same thing.
|
Re: Dave Layer/Richard Doane Memorial Race
Good Call Rodger....This crazy weather pattern would have killed the car count, even if the weather did somehow improve to a point where you could get the race in ...
