Live from the Winternationals.

Another start to the season and excited to be going to the winternationals. A little early to start reporting but I figured what the heck. Travelled 920 miles today. Sitting in Orem Utah. Plan on being at where our cars are stored north of vegas tommorow early. After we do some maintenance to the cars on Friday we're heading to Fontana to run the combo race. Need to break in a freshened clutch in on my car before Pomona. I'll try to post some info from the combo race. And I'll try my best to report what I can from Pomona. Until then.

Way to start the Winternationals coverage early. I hope you guys have a great time and a safe journey. Good luck to you and Charlene at the Combo race at Fontana and at the Winternationals. Let's hope Division 6 has a great showing at both events. Looks like a few cars are entered from up here.

Bob, what's the latest?

I expected some beer pics at maybe 9:45 in the morning.

Maybe a few BBQ shots in the 70 deg weather.

It is cloudy with drizzle but it will be gone by Saturday morning.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Looking forward to any reports from this event. Yes, race season is ready to start. Even for those of us that are only enthusiasts at this point.

Any chance of a count or photos from the track showing who is there. I know Bob and Charlene are going to be there, but curious who else from the Northwest is there. I talked to Steve Schwab and he said it was a possibility.

Anyway, like I said, any info or photos would be great. Let's hope everyone has a great time and get the cobwebs all out and the cars work great.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Finally made to Fontana and got the internet up and working. Just weathered a monsoon rain storm! LOL. Not sure who here yet in stock and super stock but I talked to Frank Grossi who's here to run the race. We are pitted with our travel friends Cal and MaryAnn Method. They are teching tonite but Harold and Paul are teching tomorrow starting at 7am so we'll tech then. Time for a soothing cocktail! When I here who else is here I'll post it as well as any results.

Bob, NHRA just posted the contingency sponsors....you've got time to update the decals on your car.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Finally made our first run. I'm guessing 24 cars made the first run. Looks by our calculations to be about .17 hundredths slower than at Pomona last fall. DA was 2067 BP 28.67 44%H 64.7T and we had about a 10mph cross wind. Looks like we get one more hit at the track and then into eliminations.

Had 2 time runs. Going into eliminations. I would post a qualifying sheet but we're being laddered off of reaction times. And I'm near the bottom of the ladder! LOL.

I heard there were only a few cars in the first two time trials (5 +7)
Racers voted for a third
Darkness fell - only got one round in eliminations

I am not there so may be all the fault of the JR dragsters as Jared posted on Facebook.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been working on my car all day. Nothing serious but time consuming. Had a release bearing go bad. Unfortunately had to change the clutch. That's racing. They just ran the final from yesterdays combo race. Brian McClanathan over Doug Holder. They just finished time trials for todays combo. Its warm here. 75 degrees and no wind. Beats the hell out of snow!

Had 32 cars and 2 time trials as per normal. Yes the jr's create a cluster **** but then again I was young once too.
Where were you??

Charlie I never said it was a JR issue Jared did on Facebook
Andy was a JR champ - no I was never young
You must be talking about Sunday
I said I was not there so it was just a rumor about two light time trials
I don't really care
See you at Pomona

I enjoyed the race. Nice to see new cars for a change and met some cool people. Yes the Jrs are just something we will have to deal with.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Sitting in the holding area at Pomona. #21 in line. Looks like about 80 in line. Nice weather here. About 72 right now. Looks like good warm weather for the whole race. Pitting supossed to start at 10am tommorow morning.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

Made it into the pits. Things moving fast here. Redman is doing a great job as usual. Other than setting up camp not much to report. I'll see if I can get some pictures later.

I think that's a bit of a misquote. My Facebook post was that I, myself, wouldn't be going to anymore races where Jr's are contested. They got more track time than we did (in terms of how long it took to run the category, not # of passes). Color me jealous. The delays weren't the Jr's fault.

Bryan Broaddus' new Camaro is gorgeous! Big step up from his '71 Monte Carlo.

And incase anyone was wondering the Sunoco equivalent to VP C-12 is $12 a gallon. C-12 last year was $11.75 at the national events.

The car is incredible. Built by Phil Mandella Race Cars the attention to detail is second to none. I'm sure it will win best engineered.

I usually don't post anything but S/SS cars but this vehicle caught my eye at tech. He has T/D class designations on the car and I can only assume he's running super comp but this vehicle even had the tech officials scratching their heads. It looks like from what I can see is a Cummings Diesel aluminum block with a turbo on it that probably puts out more boost than a top fuel car! LOL.

Bob is this the Sunoco blue? Could you post the track price of Sunoco purple and blue whenever you get a chance this weekend? Thanks and good luck rowing the gears.

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

The one fuel they quoted me on was the supreme 112. When I have a chance I'll see if I can get a complete price list and post it.

Michael Beard 02-05-2015 10:51 AM

Re: Live from the Winternationals.

So much for $9-$10/gal.... Gotta pay for the"Official Fuel" naming rights... I believe several people mentioned last year that the price would be going up when they heard the announcement. Will VP come down?

1st round of stock qualifying in the books. DA 1449 53%H 60.3T 28.97BP. Lots of 1000 foot lifting.

Where is Ryan McClanahan? He was entered in both classes and Brian said they were going Wednesday.

I am very jealous of you guys. I see the sun, I see Dave Ley in short sleeves and you guys are racing. We've had 4 feet of snow in the last 8 days and the thermometer hasn't gone much above 20. But keep the pics coming! They'll warm things up.
