Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
I suppose it is true then...success does breed contempt.
|
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Yea...thanks to the Shoes team orders. Capps and Johnson smoke the tires against Hagen...what are the odds???
Too bad we never get back to fields of 16 independently owned cars. |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Rich. & Doug are correct.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Funny, Force is probably one of the most approachable pro drivers in the sport. The guy has never what it was like to be poor, from his childhood to his years struggling to make it in drag racing.
It's sad how it has become so "fashionable" to dislike a guy like Force. Even funnier is the joy some seem to see from Schumacher doing everything possible to buy the funny car championship, right up to his attempt to buy Force's entire crew out from under him during the final run to the championship. |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Some people who have achieved little in life have contempt for those who have achieved much.;)

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
In the broadcast on ESPN Mike Dunn pretty much said Capps and TJ took dives. What a hollow victory and I lost what little bit of respect I had for the Schumacher bunch. Wonder if all the Chinese and Mexican workers in Schumacher's plants will get the day off to celebrate? Yea, right.
Just makes Erica's and Jason's battle that much better, too bad Pro Stock is on the ropes. |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
And, when they "go up in smoke", the crew chief took a dive. The driver can't do much about it. They had to be sick about looking like that.

What all happened ? I'm confused

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
I Would Rather Force Win Then Shoebox!! He Had His Team Members Take A Dive. Last Race When Force Had To Race Robert His Team Member They Raced For It And Man What A Race.
|
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
So pretty much Hagen had the championship handed to him
|
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
A couple years ago Force did all the same things to Get Robert Height into the countdown. Like it or not as long as there are two huge teams with multiple cars in the same class this will keep happening.

:rolleyes: Mega Team slogan - - DIVE, DIVE, DIVE. At least, if it's going to happen, make it not look so obvious. I know track conditions change from round to round, but if a car is flying in earlier rounds, instant smoke - come on!!!

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
After all John Force has done promoting NHRA racing for all I don't think people should condemn him too much. He started with nothing, worked his butt off promoting himself and NHRA and has created an organization that employs many with lot's of hard work at times straining his personal life.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Did TJ have lane choice and pick the slick side or am I remembering it wrong?
Some folks hate Force for his mouth but he serves to keep FC interesting. Dale |

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
I'm not sure how much of the John Force hatred has to do with his success. Otherwise, we'd see the same level of hatred towards Tony Schumacher, Anderson & Line, Jeg Coughlin, etc.
I loved John Force as a kid when he was having those epic battles with Cruz Pedregon and Al Hoffman, but over the years the traveling circus act (including the scooter rides up and down the return road, etc.) has worn a bit thin. I'd imagine most of the Force haters feel the same way. |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Team diving happens in the Sportsman classes too with random no shows by your sponsor in the first round, contributing to a 2014 World Championship.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
Team diving is alive & well in the Sportsman classes--This phenomonen is not restricted to the PRO classes--- 3 very active sportsman teams immediately come to mind---we all know who they are---there are other teams just not as well known as these 3 are, that in a few instances have been doing diving in the last several seasons.
If the team has a clear understanding and total agreement about when one or the other driver will not " give it his best effort" for the overall good of the team they may think it's OK....Personally we "let er rip" at all times if as team mates we meet in eliminations. I do not like drivers diving but we all know it happens...Some are more flagrant than others while others are quite subtle in their approach... FED 387 |

Wonder how many championships Force would have if all his team cars hadn't taken the plunge for him? That's a big reason you have multiple cars.At that level racing isn't a sport, it's a business, and business is business. |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
You have got to give some respect to Force...he made a name for himself and a fortune.....DRAG RACING, the same can't be said about the "businessmen" that drag race just because they can.

Wonder how many championships Force would have if all his team cars hadn't taken the plunge for him?QUOTE] He won 5 of his championships BEFORE he had any team cars, and he only had 1 team car for at least a couple more. I think the hate has gone WAY too far on Force. Most people try to find a reason to hate anyone these days it seems, which is really sad. I'm not necessarily a Force fan, I just love the sport and like it or not...he is one of the legends. |

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
I am not a big Top Fool fan but I can relate a story about John Force being a top notch stand up guy.
I have a close friend who has has a Downs Syndrome daughter. She has the capability of about a 12 to 13 year old and will never be any better. My friend and I went to the Topeka National Event every year since the Topeka track opened in 1989 and took our kids and we both raced the event. The friends daughter Leah loved John Force and would go and stand at the pit line to get his autograph every year. My kids would always go with her and keep up with her in the crowds. After a year or two John knew Leah by name and would then take her and my kids back into the hauler and give Leah a tee shirt or hat with his autograph. My kids usually received something less of which they were very happy. That happened for several years until sometime in the 1990's when John won Funny Car there. Leah had to go to the winners circle and watch John get his trophy. Once the pictures were taken John took the Medal off (when they still gave the medals on the big ribbons) and walked over to Leah and hung it around her neck. Leah became even a bigger fan after that. I also watched John do the same thing to a kid in a wheel chair a few years later. I may not be a big Fan of John's racing but I am a fan of the Man for what he does for kids with disadvantages of all types. He has my Respect..... Just My 2 Cents Rick Cates |
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
If the fuel cars went away for good , I'd be the last guy on the planet to miss em.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
No, I would be the lady guy. LOL

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
John Force and his daughters have done so much for this sport how could you say anything bad about him.Is he a great racer yes Is he a good family man yes is he a good businessman Yes Is he the best known dragracer to the public at large yes What am I missing here ? I know the jealousy factor that is all it is.When someone is climbing the ladder everybody is cheering until they get to the top then they all want to see the fall.Well I dont think that man or his daughters will fall and we as racers and race fans should do nothing but applaud all they have done.My 11 year old daughter all on her own with no discussion in our pitts picked out a Force racing jacket in the NHRA store and if she gets it about the Force family maybe others should too. And of all the superstock and stock racing that I and my wife Paula have done we have never met them but we sure appreciate what they do for our sport.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
John is a good guy. I just don't care for any of the fuel cars.
|
Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
The reason some people are tired of John Force is that any of the TV coverage we see of the events has way too much about the Force clan. He is a good personality but there are way more stories to the race than what they have going on. Out of the funny car guys he is my favorite. I am not a big fan of the fuelers or floppers nitro or alcohol.

Re: Force gets beat--YAHOO
I just like him because he works hard at it, never giving up and you can tell he really enjoys it. We should all be so fortunate.

Whew! What a relief Ed, thought you were saying you were "coming out" if they eliminated Top Fuel. On the plus side though, Obama would give a press conference praising your courage and what a credit you are to the sport and country (which you are anyway of course).
