I Lost My Best Friend Today
 

I lost my best friend today. Eight months after being diagnosed with bone cancer Brody, my 13 year old Chocolate Lab passed away today in my arms. After being given two months to live back in December, Brody fought the good fight until today. Brody is now out of pain and has joined his older brother Hershey in heaven running and jumping as he did when he was younger. I am devastated. I love you Brody and Hershey, two of the best race dogs anyone could ask for. Thanks to all of you who have asked about Brody since he became ill. Jim

Jim I feel for you, lost my best dog Sady 15 year old Wirehaired Griffon a few years ago.Then had an Airdale pup died at 9 months kidney failure That one was hard

Sorry to hear this Mr Jim, I also have a Chocolate and she is my first born of almost 12 years. She is a member of our family and I dread the day she leaves this world, so I know how you must feel. My condolences.

I'm so sorry, Jim. I don't think there has been a single time that I've seen a picture of a Chocolate Lab and NOT thought of you and Brody. I've tried to share as many of them with you as I could. I really wish there was something I could say to make the pain go away, but of course there aren't any magic words like that. Each of us that has lost a "forever friend" know what you're feeling now, and in time the hurt lessens, and the wonderful memories will last until you're together again.

Jim, I can't help but to shed a tear, I do fell your pain my friend. I bet the two of them are up in heaven, running after every ball, chasing every squirill up trees, napping on every couch together.

Jim, there is no words I know that describes the pain. I can only say so so sorry. But for any animal lovers that have gone through what you are going through, these words seem hollow and weak. God Bless you for having the heart you do. You can tell the heart of a person by the way they treat animals....I pray for yours.....Jeff

Jim, we are so sorry for your loss.... There is no better friend than your family pet. We lost our Golden Lab Lacy almost three years ago and I still have a soft spot for her in my heart... Time will heal the hurt but, it will never take away the memories and the love.

Sorry to hear that Jim, I thought that Hershey was so cool, especially at Belle Rose where he was our taster. And now Brody, darn. They will be missed, but are having fun together. Hang in there Jim.

Very sorry for your loss,he had a long and happy life and I'm sure you have a lot of good memories.I'm a moderator at a apbt/amstaff forum,when a members dog passes it sometimes hits home.Only time will help dealing with the loss. Run free Brody!. gsa612

Jim, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Back in 2010 when my super-dog Mr. Beasley fell ill around the Indy time, you were very nice in your comments.

I named the dakota after him when it was being reborn as a superstocker, and put a photo of him @ age 15 on the tailgate. He now does wheelies with me, and made the truck priceless. Like Brody he held on for much longer than expected, even bounding up to a week before he passed.

You will never forget your dogs, sounds like you are the luckiest of people, to have not one super dog in your lifetime, but two, you might just find a third......

Sorry to hear that Jim. I know how hard it is to loose one of your pets. I have one older dog that I am not looking forward to the day I have to say good bye to him. he is healthy now but getting up in years.

Jim, I am so sorry about your loss. Brody was loved beyond measure, just as he loved you. Perhaps you recall what I wrote about losing our precious Lucy just a couple of months ago....one day upon meeting again we will all bound like puppies on new snow.

I would like to thank all of you for the kind words about Brody's passing. He was a great dog and I will miss him greatly. Hershey, my previous Chocolate Lab who passed 5 years ago, taught Brody how to be the best race dog he could be. Brody was a Lab Rescue dog and my daughter Shannan rescued him when she was in college. He came to live with Hershey and me after he had run away from Shannan three times and had bonded with Hershey so well when Shannan had come home on holidays etc. from school with him. He lived with Hersh and me for 10 years and became a great dog . When I lost Hershey, the best race dog ever, Brody helped to fill a very large hole in my heart. Two years ago Matt and Kelly Cooke entrusted me with an 8 week old Black Lab named Tonka when we were at racing at Gainesville and he and Brody became fast buddies. I swore after Hershey died I wanted no part of a new dog, especially a puppy, but Tonka is now filling the new hole in my heart as Brody had done before. Tonka is a born race dog and a great traveler and I can't thank Matt and Kelly enough for having the forethought of giving me Tonka to help me through this tough time.

Jim, I'm glad you have Tonka. I'm sure you are giving him the best life he could possibly want. Your plight brought tears to my eyes cause I went through it almost 3 years ago. I lost my Chewy after 14 years and it really broke my heart. I rescued Buddy and he has become my best friend. Now I'm giving him the best life he can have cause he gives so much back to me.
