LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
1 Attachment(s)
Good Afternoon Everyone!
It's become apparent to me that the "live from" reporting on the West Coast (outside of D6!) has been lacking lately, so mom and I are going to give it a shot this weekend. I'm sure it'll pale in comparison next to the work the Hill's, Jack, and Kenny do, but here goes... We've been at the track since about noon PST. For those of you on the way, the sign directed us to Gate 7. We entered and have been sitting in a holding area for the last hour and a half. Took a hike up a nearby hill and it looks like they've only got about a dozen rigs inside at this point. Slow going, but it'll pickup I'm sure. Parking is noon to 5pm today. The weather looks like it's going to cooperate this weekend. Supposed to be high 70's to low 80's. Coming from 105+ heat in Bakersfield, this is going to be nice! Took a few photos of the holding area and the track. There's a herd of sheep on the far side of the track just past the finish line. Interesting to say the least! |

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Sheep are probably cheaper than groundskeepers and mowers. Looks like an RV convention, who messed up and bought a red trailer?
|
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Jared, thanks for reporting! And Congrats on the good news about the new baby to arrive when??
Ya'll all watch out for the sheep poop! I remember that well from our trip there in 2010! Ya'll all have fun and good luck to all!! |

No sheep poop around us! The "nice" thing about not running the National Event next weekend is we get to park where the Pro's will be next weekend....on asphalt....right next to the bathrooms with showers. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
What a wonderful Christmas you guys are going to have!
|
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Must be a time warp out there in the land of fruits and nuts...it hasn't been Infineon Raceway for a couple years now.
It's just plain old Sonoma Raceway on the present time side of the time warp.. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
I still call it Sears Point!

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Sorry for the lack of reporting today. We decided to add a little "vacation" to our racing and spent the day touring the nearby Wine Country. Ate at Bottega in Yountville, CA.
We got back to the track about 4 pm and T&T was wrapping up. The only ET I know of was Calvert who ran 8.84 @ 154 into a pretty stiff headwind. Car had AAA/SA on the window. The last pass of the day was pretty exciting. Mark Madison in his beautiful black Hemi '65 CC/SA Belvedere pulled a HUGE wheelstand, had to lift when it wasn't going straight, bounced and got the oil pan. When it bounced, it hit hard enough for Mark's foot to slam back down on the throttle. Mark was able to save it and drove down the track, but unfortunately left a trail of oil behind him. As it was already 40 minutes past the scheduled 5pm shutdown, T&T was called for the day. Schedule tomorrow shows Stock first out at 9am. If DRC doesn't beat me to it, I'll post the qualifying sheets. Later! |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Good Morning!
Stock just got its first round of qualifying in the books. I ran toward the front of the session and made it back in time to snag a couple of pictures from the starting line and staging lanes. Weather-wise my AltaLab showed a 30.00" baro., 60 deg., 80%, .423", and 350' AA. Wind was between 5-8 mph and was a direct headwind. I was about .05-.06 off what I thought the car would run when I left the pits. I talked to a couple other guys that also thought they'd run quicker than they did. Couple of guys pulled some BIG wheelstands. Jesse Sanderson got vertical in his G/SA '73 Dart right in front of me. Two guys I know of had mechanical issues: Jeff Jerome and Jim Durham. Hope those guys can get them back together and that the damage isn't too bad. Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Jared,
Thank you for posting from Sonoma, nice to see what's going on at a race. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
2nd qualifying session for Stock is in the books. Most were off .06-.10 from this morning's qualifying session. Air was almost 500' worse. We are now down 5 stockers due to breakage: Jeff Jerome, Jim Durham, Steve Valkanoff, Bob Aceves, and Larry Chapman. Will be quite a few competition singles on Sunday morning.
They just made the call for 2nd qualifier in SS. I'll post the sheets when I get back to the motorhome. |

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Thanks for the reporting Jared and good luck tomorrow. Also, thanks for posting a pic of the new Irving ride...I saw Jon and his Dad both on the sheet in "Demons" and thought the Q sheet was possessed. Always hated Chrysler's PC move away from Demon to Scamp...just doesn't have the flair.

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Good luck to all at Sears Point...I mean Sonoma Raceway! Nothing like an overcast morning pass there! Great to see my good friend Gary Hummer back at the track! Good luck Buddy! Jared-congrats on the young'un on the way. I am getting old because I remember when you were pretty young at the track! 4th generation Mopar class racer on the way! Tell Mom hello! Jim-I agree- Irving ride is sharp!

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
One last update and then I'm crashing for the night...
There was a cleanup session for Stock & SS right before close of business this evening. Of note was Vince Porter in the blown COPO who ran 8.85 @ 152 in AA/SA. That eclipses the previous record of 8.94. The 9.22 they ran this morning won't get the job done for the backup, but we get one more hit @ 9 am tomorrow morning. The impressive part about that run was it was in the worst air of the day and straight into an approx. 10 mph headwind. Might go pretty fast in the morning! |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Thanks for the live reports Jared and best of luck for the weekend!

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Good Morning!
It's another beautiful day here at Sonoma "don't call me Sears Point" Raceway. Stock just had Q3 and is now done for the day. Super Stock is on deck after they clear some of the super classes. SS will also be done after Q3. The next sheets I post will be the final qualifying order. My gauge showed 60 deg., 79%, .425", 29.93", and an AA of 398'. There was a lot of movement this morning on the ladder. Most guys that ran their cars hard yesterday were off .01-.03. I'll grab ladders and final qualifying sheets for both classes as soon as they're available to me. Later! |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Jared.....do you know what broke on Steve Valkanoff's car?
|

Stock & SS have now both made Q3. The Stock sheet was posted in the tower before SS ran, so when SS is available I'll grab copies of each and post them. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Thanks, Jared! Good luck to you this weekend!

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Out in Stock due to breakage: Steve Valkanoff, Jeff Jerome, Larry Chapman, Bob Aceves, Gary Humrichouse.
Possibly out as well: Mark Madison & Barry Polley Also, the COPO of Vince Porter is in teardown for the AA/SA record. Ran 8.765 @ only 147 mph this morning. -1.235 under. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Sure thought the Cottons would be there.

Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Couple of notes before I sign off for the night...
Vince Porter in the Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet '14 COPO Camaro sailed through teardown with flying colors and is the new AA/SA record holder @ 8.76. You guys on the East Coast may want to keep your eye out for this car at a race near you soon... http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...magejpg1-9.jpg Also, Barry Polley and Mark Madison both are going to make Round 1 tomorrow morning, so it looks like we're only down 5 Stockers. Don't know of any SS'ers with mechanical issues. Admittedly, tomorrow there won't be much in the way of updates as it'll be race day. First round of Stock is out at 9am and SS is only two classes behind. Good luck to all the competitors here and thanks to all of you who have been following this thread. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Thanks for the updates Jared!
|
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Can anybody post the final Q sheet after the "clean up"?
Not sure if there were any SSs to be added Ron |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Only car that ran in a "cleanup" I saw was Barry Polley. Didn't see any SS'ers.
|
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
Good morning! Much cooler temps and a strong headwind is what we woke up to this morning. Dial-ins will be tricky. The first three designated pairs are all singles as their opponents are broke. I'm sure everyone will be watching those three runs quite closely!
First call to the lanes will be in 15 minutes. |
Re: LIVE from Infineon Raceway!
In drought-stricken California we had a late start due to sprinkles! We got about 3/4 through the first session of stock when there was another delay as Porter left fluids down the track.
