Cooking Permit !?!
|
What turnpike exit is that?
|
To kill time, I went ahead and read it..it seems to me this is directed more toward the vendors and maybe some of the hospitality trailers and tents. I doubt they are concerned with the guy grilling a dog back at the pit..if they are, just roll up the awning.
|
You need to go look again. It states that race teams must have a permit !!!

" concerning cooking and the use of tents for Pro teams "
I hope this helps clarify. Race2Win Motorsports Michael & Janice Swan |
Here is the 1st line in the bulletin.
Old Bridge Township Raceway Park has issued a release concerning cooking and the use of tents for "PRO" teams at the NHRA SuperNationals June 21-24. |
Yeeeeeaahhh. E-town's all asphalt. What's going to burn? Not to mention that almost every car has a fire extinguisher in it.
How long before tracks institute a 'cooking permit' to offset their concession stand losses from people bringing in their own food? Movie theaters get away with their food policy somehow... Insurance surcharge, scooter/gold cart registration, oildown fines, trash fees, 'fire' permits... ??? I tell you what, I've really been enjoying local bracket racing so far this year! ..I don't think we need to hide in the cover of darkness to fire up some kielbasa...
|
NHRA will pickup the tab for that deal.
the pros will cry an nhra will take care of it.[:-devil-:] There is no such thing as to much fun. |
I think this permit BS is the crafty work of complaining neighbors of the track. They are probably all over the local government trying to find ways to make life miserable for the track and racers. Yeah, I know those bbq's could burn the whole neighborhood down.
|
If you follow the links to the application, it's worded to the effect of, "Permit for open flame under a tent or canopy". Doesn't sound like that applies to a Weber next to a trailer.
|
It is directed at the Pro's where there are large tents for hospitality. Area fire marshalls inspect the areas prior to the events, this includes the vendors areas. This is nothing new, just an enforcement by the fire dept for potential problems that might arise.
As far as the sportsman pits are concerned there is no enforcement as it is the same as BBQing in your back yard. There is no need to worry. Now, if you are near one of our BBQs that we perform at the track, there could be possible dangers. Last time we had a small fire, we set Mike Mayhew's foot on fire, which was quite a sight and quiite funny. But he had it coming to him as he portrayed a little bit of pyromania while setting trails of fire from the BBQ to around peoples chairs via lighter fluid. Note: His sneaker smoldered a good 3 minutes before ignition, which he found out by standing up on it as he was hollering at some people. Ron Ortiz U/SA After a win for Mike, it gives a new meaning to Mayhews on fire. |
Michael;
You forgot used oil removal fee. Ed F. 15 T/SA |
Ed, you forgot the porta-jon dump fee.

Traction compound? ;-) Boy, that'd bring some "excitement" back to racing... BYOT
I've seen some tracks where your entry fee is just for the car, and the driver has to pay general admission on top of that! Electric hookups... lights at night... I've also encountered what I've coined "Carolina Math". One track doubled the cost to join points. Well, *obviously* if they double the cost, they'll make twice as much money. Right? Except only about 1/3 of the people from last year signed up this year. "Oops". No soup for you!
|
..It appears to be a track issue, and I can understand the purpose, but the language seems a bit vague . I am sure that there will be some clarifications. I was thinking it was more directed toward the vendors and Teams that have catering, etc...If I am wrong, then it's gonna a tough thing to police..if it was 5 bucks or something else more reasonable, most guys will just get one and deal with it. Not worth getting all fired up about. But someone tells me I can't smoke at the track, man, it's gonna get perverse. Cheers!

maybee it has something to do with larry dixons hospitality tent trailer burning to the ground in houston ?

The US has several Uniform Fire Codes, but this looks like some home cooking.

Wouldn't an "open flame" also be a flame coming from the headers of a F/C or T/F car when they warm up and set the clutch?

It's just another example of the "Big Brother Knows Best" philosophy in New Jersey - what else would you expect in a state where the State Police are in charge of running an event? You thought NHRA ran the event? Wrong, at least in New Jersey. The constabulary is there to shut things down if there's any violation of New Jersey's rules. Heck, you can't even pump your own gas, it's illegal, not safe.
- Larry |
Oregon is like that too with the gas stations. They take it very seriously, on the way back from California late at night i stopped for gas and forgot i was in Oregon and grabbed the nozzle and started pumping.
All of the sudden the pump and all the lights went out and there was a blood curdling scream "NOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo" . I figured there was some sort of violent crime happening and ducked behind the car and a fellow came running towards me and grabbed the nozzle and hung it up. He screams "You can't pump the gas". Of course he forgot to add the five bucks worth i'd already pumped so it was worth the excitement. I've heard the police do the tech inspection in New Jersey, is that true? |
Yet the State Policeman driving the Governor's SUV doesn't bother to enforce the state law requiring a seal belt? Sounds like selective harassment to me...
- Larry |
That should have been "seat belt" - sheesh, where's the "edit" button?
- Larry |
Larry, it is there ^ (up) .. ;--)

what?
My seal has a belt. Lower gas prices now..... |
