"Live" from Norwalk 2014

We won't be there for a while, but I thought I would get things going. We are on the road with the whole family! Our son Chris, his wife Keisha and our granddaughters Aubrey and Reagan are looking forward to a great week of vacation racing and going to Cedar Point! We left this morning and are headed to NRC in Middlebury, IN to get a little bit of maintenance done on the motorhome first thing Monday morning. Then on to Norwalk.

I guess we can't get into Lenders Lot until 8 on Tuesday morning. It looks like it is raining there today, Monday and Tuesday. Anybody who lives close let us know if it looks like it is going to be muddy! I remember last year it had been raining a lot and they parked us directly at the track on Tuesday instead of running thru Lenders Lot. That would be great if that happened again this year!

It looks like the weather is going to be great the rest of the week. Sunny with highs in the 70s!

More later!

Larry we are figuring on being there at 8.01 Tuesday morning as if you have never been there, they make a point to make sure you know who is keeping time on the watch. The divisional was a mud pit and we have had big time rain for the past week, I was up there Friday testing with my parents, the fields close by driving there was "lakes and ponds" so...............
Hang out at the Walmart on the northside of Norwalk off of 250, it has a bunch of stores and restaurant's close by

Changed the converter and starter last week. Getting the ring & pinion changed on Tuesday (had a used set in there that's always whined, but now it's knockin' a little...). Got some fresh 32x14 stiff sidewall M/T's ready to mount up on Wednesday when I get there, get some fresh fuel, and be ready to rock and roll.

Hey Bill and Brenda !
Looks like we are going to be late for dinner. Had a flat tire on the trailer. We had stopped by Dennis Breeden 'a place of business-JT Express to eat lunch and noticed a tire down on the trailer. Thanks to Dennis for getting us fixed up with air and stuff! We are now back on the road but looks like we won't be there til 8:30 or so! Looks like bar food and wine for supper!

Thanks for tending to that noisy ring & pinion. For me it was like fingernails on a blackboard in all of your in-car video posts.

NRC, gosh are those guys good! They worked on our stuff, Bo Butner's stuff, Bill and Brenda's Grubbs stuff, and Todd of Tulsa raceway and Brandon of pro mod fame stuff all at once. We got out of there about 3.00 pm. The rest had a laundry list longer than ours. NRC is the one of the best on truck type conversions available on the market today.

You got that right! The best in the business. Wish I could afford one of their new rigs.

I've had an NRC product for 10 years and I concur that they build a great product and their customer service is excellent . They usually go over and above what I expect .

Mike, mostly we go there to have the slides lubed and maintained. This year we had a handicapped commode installed, man the extra height is great.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk 2014

Sorry guys, but I haven't seen much to take pictures of yet! We did have the sheep at NRC yesterday, but I didn't get any of them!

Last night Larry said he had the most fun that he had ever had at a truck stop! We spent the night at 100mm on the Ohio Turnpike! We got there early and got a good spot by a light pole that had no parking beside it, so we were able to get our slides out. Then we got out our chairs and had a few drinks sitting in our spot + the one next to us and grilled hot dogs and hamburgers! Then off to bed early and got us a good night's sleep.

I am now sitting in the parking lot of Cedar Point Amusement Park in our motorhome with trailer in tow! The rest of the family have gone in the park to play for the day and I am enjoying the quiet and getting things straightened up a bit. I really don't care for the rides and all the walking, so I am content right here where I am! Larry is a big kid at heart and loves the roller coasters so he is in "Hog Heaven"! Our plan is to unload our runaround car this afternoon and Chris, Keisha and the girls will stay as long as they wish and Larry and I will take the motorhome on to Norwalk and get parked. They are supposed to start parking at noon today and on until 7 this evening. We will probably leave here around 3 or so. We are probably no more than 45 minutes from the track from here.

Whenever ya'll begin parking, please let us know what the conditions are there. The weather was calling for a little rain today, but I haven't seen any yet. The rest of the week looks warm and sunny and great!

Thanks to Babbitt Bearing Co. for setting up the new gears for my Moser M60. These old $100 clearance shelf 5.57's lasted a year or two, and lord knows what they went through before I got them, so they don't owe me anything. Fresh 5.38's in and ready to rock! (Still have my original Moser 5.17's that came with the rear as a backup) http://www.columbusbabbitt.com/

Re: "Live" from Norwalk 2014

No Danny, no Western Swing in our future this year. But maybe next year???

We are in and parked just down from where we parked last year on the main road coming in. They brought us in thru the back gate on the Pro side this afternoon. Don't know if that will be the plan for tomorrow or not! The grounds all look great and not squishy at all. Of course this track is always top notch! The grass has been cut and trash cans out every couple of trailers or so. There are quite a few here already for a Tuesday, but I'm sure a lot of racers came straight from Joliet.

More later!!

Years ago at Mike Carrs race in Hagerstown, Michael said the rear in my car sounded funny(?). I drove 1 or 2 races the following year before I pulled them out and the ring gear was missing 6 or 7 teeth. I tend to inspect them much closer now.
Heading out for Norwalk in the morning...looking forward to eating, drinking some martinis on the veranda(tailgate)......and some racing.

Heck, I double-entered it at Piedmont that Thanksgiving! It made 18 runs with 6 teeth gone and at least 3 more chipped.

The first time I hurt a rear in the Volare, I heard it start to make a little noise, and thought, "Well, I should take care of that in the next couple weeks." The experience with Terry's car gave me a false sense of security. Nope, BANG on the very next run. Ever since then, that particular 8-3/4 didn't even give a warning, just bang. Glad to have the Moser60 in there!

We are heading out in the morning. My 8 3/4 is getting a little noisy but behind my powerless 340 it should last a few more years. We'll see you guys in the afternoon. Safe travels to all coming. Holgar & Kathy

Re: "Live" from Norwalk 2014

I don't know what gear oil you are using Michael, but if you put in Red Line high impact gear oil, the gears will last allot longer. I checked my 5:86 gears in a 12 bolt with a magnet and did even get a sliver of metal out of the housing after 2 years. The oil is rated at GL6, which means the gears really never touch each other. Great stuff!

It is a beautiful day here in Norwalk! It is 83 and sunny! Everyone is parking in Linders Lot today and then being pulled in 3 or 4 at a time. Everything seems to be rolling right along. Tech is happening and lots of awnings are going up! Aubrey, Reagan and I have been riding around on the golf cart just showing them around. I will try to begin getting pics later today!

Sorry folks for the late report, its been a long day. Got here about 3:30 with no waiting just drove right in. They parked us quick and we were off to tech. Tech went smooth with no more than a 20 minute wait. There was also no line for the credentials.

There is still plenty of parking left although it is at the end of the track. The pits are in excellent shape, and the weather is perfect.

I took some photos in tech and found a few cars still out tonight.

We start at 9 am with stock and get three shots with first round Friday morning starting with stock.

Well after pee breaks , food stops plus get some expensive Ohio Turnpike diesel ( who knew in Norwalk it would be forty cents a gallon cheaper ) we're here in Linders Lot and its nothing like I pictured and at 12:30 AM I wasn't expecting much .Tomorrow hopefully I'll get teched early and only miss one time shot .

I'll be the one wondering around in the morning looking for everything as I've never ( can you believe it ) been here .............Hopefully Larry / Patsy and Ken can get things handled and won't miss me .............
