Re: Richard Doane
Richard was a true gentleman. I met him in Kentucky a couple of years back, very friendly and welcoming to Lorraine and I within Super Stock fraternity. I am saddened at this news, and can only imagine the emptiness he will leave with all of the people he has touched. I truly enjoyed the little time I got to spend with him. Lorraine and I send our thoughts and prayers to his family and his friends who without doubt are hurting at this time. Not only have we lost one of the best front end guys in the business, but a testament to the kind of people that race Super Stock. Rest in peace.

Re: Richard Doane
I always enjoyed seeing Richard come through the tech line. I knew he would be in a good mood and greet me with a smile. He was also a wealth of knowledge when I would run into a problem with the suspension on a car I would be working on...especially Corvettes.
Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed by many and I for one am honored to have known you. |

Re: Richard Doane
I had the privilege of racing against Richard in the final last year at the div 3 fall classic he had asked me if we were to come back to the staging for contingency I laughed and said sir I'm a rookie at being in a final. I ended up winning the race (the first since my late father had passed) and he embraced me and said "son you did your old man proud congratulations!" I was already teary eyed and he made them tears flow harder. He really was one of the good guys! He will be missed. RIP my friend.

Re: Richard Doane
What a sad day for myself, my family and the drag racing community. Richard truly was an icon in stock/super stock race cars. His knowledge was deep and unsurpassed. My wife, Nancy (who truly loved Richard) and I traveled, raced, ate meals together, and totally enjoyed Richard and his late wife, Wanette's friendship since the early 90's. He was my confidante, whom I constantly would call to get an answer on a race car or driving dilemma. And yes, he was a great guy (and sincere friend to many of us) who enjoyed life and loved drag racing. I have too many great memories with Richard Doane. This is a huge loss but his memories will live on for all of us. God bless Richard and Wanette Doane. We miss them.

Re: Richard Doane
On behalf of my dad (Richard), my late mom (Wanette), myself and my entire family, I would like to thank all of you for sharing your condolences, thoughts, or memories. We all know that he loved racing and thought of all the drag racing community as his extended family... My dads good friend, Rick Brown said to me yesterday...if it wasn't for the friends to enjoy racing with, it just wouldn't be the same. Well, I am sure my dad felt the same when being surrounded by all of you. I hope you keep my dads memories, kindness, sportsmanship alive, he was not only my step dad, he was a great father and grandfather, for that I will always love him and cherish the relationship we had. Thank you again for all the kind words.

Re: Richard Doane
I remember first seeing Richard race at Ohio Valley Door slammers in the late 70s. He had a blue SS/IA 67 Camaro that was so fast that he ran E/G with it. He was always somebody I looked up to after that, he will truly be missed.
