I don't have a long history as far as Class racing goes, but I think one word sums it up: people. I have met and spoke with some of the greatest people in all of drag racing when starting this journey, and reading these threads, and even more at my first National Open. I see a group dedicated to keeping their sport alive, for the fun, the challenge, and the camaraderie. Sure costs go up, and things arise now and then, but as a whole, the opportunity to race against and meet the people in Class racing is as much if not more of an incentive than the challenge of making something that has no business going fast perform in a tight rules window. So many neat cars and combinations and stories, and such a great colorful history as well. I hope more people see the same thing and continue to get involved, if at the least going to the events to watch, all the way up to jumping in with both feet to build a car. On that end, I have been involved in circle track, off-road, and demolition derbies, from driver to promoter, and no one group has been more willing to help a new competitor, or even a seasoned one, get started, refine, or repair their cars. Cars and combos will come and go, times will be good and bad, but based on the merits of the folks involved here, I just don't see any other place I want to be!

Ken,
I enjoy keeping up with the latest helpful information on here.
Classracer has allowed me to seek help in other places, where I may be going or in need of help when I’m there. Most all racers are very helpful and willing to lend a hand.
Happy Holidays Ernie Neal

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

I have been going to the races since 1968 when my uncle Jim got out of the Air Force. Great time being involved with this. With the age of the interweb.... great sites usch as this came along and with it we were able to procure a nice Buick Apollo due to the help of many racers and their feedback. Being able to get information and tips certainly helps. going to the track and seeing racers that you have "chatted" with is fantastic!

Thanks for keeping this site running! It provides great information and entertainment. I even mis Ed O'Brien. We had some interesting conversations. As the saying goes, you have to stir the pot once in a while or the stuff on the bottom burns!

Oh! Why I like class racING, not racer..... easy! Working within certain rules and restrictions. Things to the thousandth of an inch, of a cc, using those old parts, having them next day aired from Oregon to NJ... The friends you make at the track. Class racing is the best!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

What I enjoy most about Class Racer are the new friends I've made, and the old friends I've got back in touch with. I'm one of those who raced in Stock in my younger days, then got away from it. My career path went in a different direction - now that I'm semi-retired I've come back to one of my early passions. When I first discovered Class Racer I used a 'handle', like they do on a lot of web boards. I quickly realized that I didn't get any respect hiding behind a screen name.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

I can keep up with friends, make new ones, keep up on rules changes, do some bench racing, and talk about the 'good ol days'. What could be better?

:):) Being a part of Class Racer has helped me to a better person. I haven't class raced since 1973, but still enjoy the cars, the competition and most of all the people. My handle has gotten me some fame locally. When I am at one of the s s/s combo races at our local track I am known as Carguy49. Makes me feel apart of the action. I have known some of the locals for over 35 years, and some I have known just a year or so. The conversations that some of us get into at the events are priceless. The website has allowed me to acknowledge some accomplishments of people , both local and far away, and to be involved in the sport that I love so much. Merry Christmas to all and God Bless every one of you in the coming year.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

I think you people misread the administrators post, but that's not important now. Being a bracket racer for 33 years, I got kind of bored with going to the local track every weekend, so traveling to different tracks and seeing racers from other places adds a little more fun for me. I've met some good racers who race in my class and got to now some of them very well. I look forward to getting to the track and seeing who's there where local bracket racing, the same people are usually there. also the competition is different at a division race than at a bracket race. I do like reading threads on classracer.com also.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

One of the reasons I like class racing is all of the great people I have met and already know. I have not met any unpleasant people at all. They are all very friendly and helpful. Everyone makes me feel right at home. When I get beat, I usually go to their trailer to congratulate them and talk for a few minutes. Sometimes I glean a little information, and other times they give me some advice on how to be a better racer. Where else can a beginning class racer go up against a multi time national champion, get beat, and later get advice from him on how to get better! Priceless. I love this sport and I feel privileged to be a part of it. Derek

I enjoy class racer because it lets me keep up with what is happening in all divisions. All the Live from posts are great as it lets us see cars and or folks we would not regularly have the opportunity too. Also afraid to say the banter between some individuals is pretty entertaining and the thoughts of the other racers is always interesting. The tech section is also fun to read and there is a ton of knowledge on this site.

I enjoy class racing for the following:

The Great People

Lining up to run class at Vegas Sportsnationals with the other KA cars and realizing how lucky I was to just be there,

Watching that guy from up north in the Blue Wagon treat the finish line like its a picasso,

THe Great People

Wondering how or why my car was'nt as fast or as attractive as others and getting the opportunity to spend some time in a shop in Modesto and watch someone work and work and work to squeeze every ounce out of his ride. Then come home and do it again and again....

Goin to a combo race in a small town and parking next to a legend in our sport and having same legend spend an hour just chatting and talking racing while your 6 year old climbs on anything or everything he can. (said kid is now 19). by the way that Camaro's gotta be on that expensive list thing...

The Great People

Meeting all the great people all over this great country and being fortunate enough to be able to travel to do it.

Most of all its the time I get to spend with my Mother and Father and my 2 Brothers. Not proud to admit we are CLASS RACING junkies but theres worse things to be addicted to.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

For me it's a combination that makes Class racing the best. On one side there is the challenge of improving your chosen combo and the hard work it takes to rise up the Q sheets. On the other side is the people you meet and become friends with from participating in both NHRA/IHRA and Stock/Super Stock combo events. On the competition side there is nothing like heads up racing, two racers battling to see which one has the baddest hot rod on that day in your class.

Being at the race track since 1964, the reason I love class racing so much is back in the 60's & 70's watching everybody plus my parents working their butts off during the week at normal jobs then going to the tracks, even local events working hard to get that hundredth just to be the fast person of the week. At National events back then and remember for the longest time there was just a few, if you won class it was like winning the event. they only took the class winners into the eliminator. And while we was class racing you meet and stay friends with hundreds of people and remain friends to this day. After I quit racing in 1995 I went out on a limb and thanks to Capt Jack seeing what I was doing stats wise (and I was messing around doing for my own enjoyment) the stats gig has taken off. The most filling thing about this whole deal is dealing with class racers and their families. What a wonderful group of racers from coast to coast. I just want to thank every racer I've ever met for making me feel like I was a big part of class racing even after I quit racing. Happy Holidays everybody!

I enjoy class racing for a multitude of reasons...seeing the mechanical talents of many, the innovative spirit, the close racing . I think class racing embodies all that is good in the human spirit, we are fierce competitors for 1/4 of a mile, and helping and supportive friends the rest of the time.

The biggest reason I enjoy class racing is being able to be with my friends and family. I'm a 2nd generation drag racer, grew up at race tracks following my Dad. I've been fortunate enough to watch my son grow up to be a racer, too. I have no doubt my family will have a 4th generation drag racer at some point. The times we spent together, at the race track and in the shop, strengthened our family ties. The experiences we have shared are priceless.

We love class racing because it is the last arena where the true sportsman drag racer can still strut his or her stuff by letting it all hang out young or old new car or traditional older in a heads up or class run and there are still TRUE brand rivalries Ford vs Chebbie, or Mopar, Nash vs Buick Olds or Pontiac etc.and even the occasional Cadillac or Fart can nerd car so as not to leave out Art , Tim or the self proclaimed super Honda or Hyundai or whatever it is and the west coast gerbil hauler:confused:

I have always loved the challenge of taking something stock and tweaking the life out of it and trying to be competitive. Cars that you can see driving down the street, something real that isn't purpose built but purpose made. It's nostalgic and makes me remember things from long ago. Lots of thoughts and emotions, certainly one thing sums it up for me, Fun! :)

Because class racers never stop searching for that little bit extra. A well known Super Stock guy once told me, "If you think you've found every hundreth that's left in your combination and you think there's nothing left in it.........you're in the wrong sport".
Merry Christmas!

Stock/super stock cars are the coolest race cars. Class racers are the friendliest and most eager to lend a hand. Racing a car under a given set of rules and finding what works and what doesn't is a fun challenge.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

I think more than anything it's the sound of a stocker or super stocker firing up, idling, and running down the track. Also, it's the best car show there is (kinda partial to the older vehicles myself). Of course, picking up a tenth or two here and there and doing the work yourself is extremely rewarding. Ron.

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

I'm new to racing class after a couple years of brackets. As a kid I loved growing up at the track and watching these cars that looked like they were right off the streets stand on the bumper, and listening to the high winding stick shift cars row through the gears. Watching 15 second stockers get chased down by 9 or 10 second stockers and all of it made me hooked. I was lucky enough to be able to accomplish a goal from when I started racing in 2007 still in high school and that was make my S10 a stocker. I got the chance to run a couple combo races this year and pulling into the lanes with this elite group that I watched as a kid growing up and dreamed being a part of, I finally was able to be part of the show

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

What I love about class racing is whole craft of the game that continually makes you think, think, think to run with the best. From the tiring research of out- engineering the factory engineers to finding a few more hp’s to the quick look at the flag before your last dial number goes on, class racers are the most intelligent, competitive, driven racers on the planet, and the beauty is….anyone can join and do it too.
My favorite things:
• Waking up to the screech of the track being dragged in the AM, knowing it’s for us.
• The first call, “Stock to the lanes!” or “Super Stock to the lanes!” depending on what I’m driving first.
• The flip of the coin “do you have a lane preference?” and all the personalities that go with that encounter.
• The research and talent of qualifying on the ladder where you want (Thanks NJ Stats!), picking a spot and nailing it.
• Taking my thumb off of the button on the last yellow and knowing it was way close! (They’re in trouble now!)
• The tight top end racing (who took that stripe?)
• Your win light on!
• Watching the best drive the stripe when your day ended early.
What the best thing of class racing? All of it; the challenges of your class rules, the friends, the food, the travel, the struggles, the victories, the coulda, woulda, shoulda’ s, the bench racing, looking at a Wally on the way home and knowing you were the best that day. What more could you ask for a car guy?
Thanks Wally Parks!

Good morning kids - Just a few words here - with a few exceptions the participation has been weak .We here at ClassRacer.com thought it would be easy to get you guys and gals to speak up and voice your thoughts and maybe win some neat stuff for Christmas to wear next season .

OK, you've got the rest of the day to collect your thoughts and post them .We are going to award the winner at approximately 6pm est .Don't be bashful or shy - just spit it out as you've always done here .Good luck .........And by the way - make it good as Kenny has informed me that the cost of the 'goodies' is coming out of my Christmas bonus ! ! ! !

And tell your friends - hit Facebook -- then Tweet it ......Whatever works .

One last thing - this contest is not about what you like about ClassRacer.com - its about what you like about class racing .

Aside from the obvious, making friends, and meeting cool people.... Class Racing allows average people like myself and my brother (two blue collar working guys) the opportunity to compete at a very high level against some of the best racers in the country. All the hard work we put into our cars in our backyards is able to be shown at not only a regional level, but at a National level as well. It gives "the little guy" a chance to win the "Big One"... I think that's pretty cool, and that's what keeps us going.

I like class racing because it's a safer place to throw away my hard earned money. the wife strongly objects to giving $ for things like lap dances. I get to go all around the country and (try to) whip some serious butt. going to these class races, everyone else brings great food and I also drink their beer. what's not to love? where else can you go, be a bum, talk smack, meet all kinds of other freaks and geeks, and run a fast car without getting locked up? and I guess I should add this one last thing:
The Chicks dig Porsche's
lol, Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

In the short time I've been participating, my favorite thing about class racing is, hands down....DUMPING THE CLUTCH!!!
Coming in a close second, is interacting with the folks walking through the pits, just after a run they've watched me make. The disbelief when they see what's under the hood and get a quick rundown of the rules is priceless, and so is the feeling of accomplishment in knowing I built the thing myself!

Re: ClassRacer.com Christmas Giveaway!

OK Heres some more then.....

Driving 2800 miles to go to Indy because thats the measuring stick for us Class Racers
only to not qualify, still had a great time

Driving 2200 mile to go to No Problem for the Sportsnationals because you told Pat you would go when he talked about building his track. Thank you Pat still one of the best experiences of my life.

At that same race having such a good time came up .660 against the puppy and believe was his first round win. Shaking the dogs hand afterward because it was the right thing to do. That Puppies one hell of a racer.....

Spending countless hours in a garage with your brother's who have tried and continue to try to teach you what they know and just not getting it and knowing you could not do it without them. I guess I provide the entertainment....

In all as stated before its something different to be a class racer and to go through or do the things we do to be a part of this. When the win light is on its a rush and when it does'nt well we'll skip that, but most of all it's about the people and the fact that coast to coast we all have and work at the same craft.

Have a Great Holiday and We''ll see you at Pomona.

Scott
