G/SA Current Record
What is the current record for G/SA?
The NHRA Site lists it as 11.50 with no other data. |

Re: G/SA Current Record
No incentive to set it when future H.P. is involved.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Not if its set at a national open event. No HP for those races.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Jim Storms, set record at national opens, go as far under as you want, no AHFS. Tom

Re: G/SA Current Record
JV come on and set the record park it and jump in the other car. Its only one strike I will help you out.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Usually at our National Opens there's not many passes to achieve that when your there to Win the race (westcoast) we all know the capability of my Cuda. Maybe someday!
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Nowadays, the record holder in a particular class is very seldom the fastest car in the class.

Re: G/SA Current Record
G/SA 612 Get that stocker out of mothballs and do it buddy!
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
There is no real incentive to set records anymore. It is still an accomplishment, but it isn't worth getting hp. Some parts of the country have national opens which allow you to not have to worry about hp. However, there aren't many down south, as well as in other areas. I hope they atleast try one national open in each division to give everybody an opportunity to set records. Then you might see some things changing in the record book!
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
I believe you might have seen a new G record along with many others if the Dutch didn't get canceled. I know of a few G cars that had made the trip hoping to try and set it. Barry

Re: G/SA Current Record
National records in the sixties a big deal, today not worth the time to tear it down.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
If somebody wants the record for their bucket list, they better do it at Pomona, before Chuck Beach runs his car this Winter/Spring in Florida ! Just saying. JB.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Yes John (G/SA 612) do it !!!
Let me know if you need a wheel man !!! HA |
Re: G/SA Current Record
Why is a national record less valuable today than in the 60's?
What would make it more valuable for racers? What if there were fewer classes so there were less records available? Is there a desire for more heads-up racing? I have my own opinion on this but I'm curious as to the thoughts of others. |

Re: G/SA Current Record
With cars getting horsepower added to them for going to fast, it does not always make any sense to go to fast. You are only shooting yourself in the foot because you have to add weight to the car or change class. Therefore , it is not always the fastest car in the class setting the record. Now with the opens, and no horsepower being added for going fast, you may see some records that are set by the fastest car in the area, but again it may still not be the fastest car in the class. That being said, it is still an accomplishment to set one. Being torn apart and passing tech, is a lot of work, and personally, I would still do it.

Re: G/SA Current Record
I know that its not suppose to be taken into account but I wander if the NHRA is keeping track of those individuals who run way under index at open events where horsepower can't be added and then "randomly" select those individuals for tear down at divisional or national events?

Re: G/SA Current Record
I would own any record that my outdated car would set, but I can't run fast enough to set any records.
Heads up racing for class I just love it. In fact I would rather run for class than eat and I am always hungry. The worst part of not being the lead dog is the view never ever changes. Ink is the reason some early '70s cars fly, read not enough ink; and too much ink is why some early '70s cars won't fly. Jesse the Factory Shoot Out Cars are great and put on a good show, but should not be exempt from the AHFS rules. |
Re: G/SA Current Record
Jim: Chuck who? LOL Rod I think if the air is that good at Atco in the spring as it was this year 10:70's may be good for an H car but I don't think it will get it done for a G.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Barry- I don't know about a 10.7 H car. My best correction was at Indy and was 10.88. It would have to be minus 1000' for us to run in the 70's. Gary- I'm with you on setting records and going thru teardown. Should be on the dyno in a few days to see if it makes more steam.

Re: G/SA Current Record
Barry: (lol), the same Chuck Beach that went 10.79 at Maple Grove in 2008 (I think). The car was at at least 75# heavy for G. Not on Kill, No lite oil, and engine wasn't cooled. And,... I think, ...no, I know ... it's faster now. Come down south - mine shaft conditions, slight tail wind, tuned up, lite oil, cooled.....10.60's....maybe!? ....could happen. JB

Glenn, damn you, you have all the inside info! I know the weight of Chuck's car at that race, I know the tune up, I know it ran 10.79, but I didn't know he'd taken a plug wire off!?

Re: G/SA Current Record
Where it is not the same, I would still do it all over again. When Dad and I BOTH set the records and tore down at Joliet, people thought we were absolutely insane for doing it. Given that same opportunity, Id do it again in a heartbeat.
We had more people come up and offer help, to chase parts, and bring food. Some were friends and racers, others were just there to watch the divisional race and had no clue what was happening. It was thought that it was an area to fix broken race cars. Travis Miller would probably remember, but I seem to recall about 15 cars going through teardown that day. I believe everyone did pass too. JR/S was at G weight circa 2009. I would hope one of you speed demons would be able to go a 70-something in H in 2014!

The first 2 cars on that list were stick cars. The Camaro is 12 horsepower less with a stick. To run H with it ,275 lbs would have to be added.

Re: G/SA Current Record
The third is a powerglide Nova....without a Shoebox oil pan.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
That was too easy...lmao. Yes I remember the nova and tech at Maple Grove.... And if memory serves me right, no one was ever torn apart or even a valve cover taken off to check the JR/S cars. Not that I would say any were illegal, just none to my knowledge none were ever checked. And I understand why, just not enough time at the races to do that. And that was a shame because there was some great runs by some legal cars.
|
Re: G/SA Current Record
Lots of people scambling on the shoe box pan now, according to Parker Bros it was worth .2
The gold pan was faster than the black pan, not sure why? Mike, Get to work a mustang and just crush the G/SA record. You could put it in the 50's. |
