Live from the 2014 Cobra Jet Build - Brownstown, MI
I work as a freelance photographer and a vendor for one of the big 3. I snapped a few images this week of the 2014 Cobra Jet build. Enjoy....

I just had them do the CJ mods and lightening on my BIW project. This place is amazing and all the guys there are great! They took me around and showed me all the little tricks they do on one of these builds. Definitely the Taj Mahal of race shops.

who made the wheelie bar? looks like a Ken Keir piece?and I really like the fabrication on the roll bar! |
Re: Live from the 2014 Cobra Jet Build - Brownstown Charter
Made by Watson Racing in house.

Re: Live from the 2014 Cobra Jet Build - Brownstown Charter
The wheelie bar was actually engineered by the Ford Racing development team and is built by Watson Engineering. It is NHRA Stock legal and mounts without requiring fascia modification.
We put it on initially as a means to cut down on aborted runs so we could do powertrain validation and it worked so well at making the 60' time consistent we decided to offer it as an option. Putting 3 different drivers in the car on the same day we had 60' and ET's within a few hundredths of each other. The wheelie bar option cost $1500 MSRP and comes as you see in the photos. We had 45 of the 50 cars take this option. In addition to computer modelling we made in excess of 80 runs on the car with the wheelie bar and over 100 for engine validation (coincidentally at a smaller pulley and more power than we actually delivered the car at to guarantee an extremely durable engine). Although we do still recommend a tear down and inspection after 50 runs, and replacement of timing chains at that time. This is cheap insurance. The parachute mount which is standard on the Cobra Jet also underwent rigorous testing. On track at stock weight, about 600lbs heavy, through computer simulation and finally lab testing including more than a lifetime of cycles. It is probably the most heavily engineered parachute mount ever. I always like to say we're not building a race car, we're engineering a Cobra Jet. |

"we're not building a race car, we're engineering a Cobra Jet"
Nice!! That green....nope...just not my colour I guess, maybe because I wear it everyday?? LOL! Look at the 90* bend at the bottom of the exh manifold on the Boss! Talk about restrictive! I also wonder if they installed the pipe before dropping the engine in because it's impossible to replace it later? I always hate stuff like that, can't pull a bolt out because it's up against the body or frame and you have to drop the cradle or something. |

By far best Ford racing song. By a Cork boy who knew about Irelands Ford plant, and Henrys parents were from there..... I don't want a Chevy, don't want an MGB I don't want a Chevy, don't want no MGB I'm going up to Detroit pick up a Ford for me. Now you know a Rolls Royce sure got a lott of style But you can't beat a Ford when your going down a country mile..... |

my guess: 5-6 employees in the first pic (looks like 2 in the pit).
only 2 in the second. also, the first pic it shows employees in company uniform the last must be casual Friday. lol first pic was an assembly line second looks more like"lift stations" first pic looks like a nice stocker combo second looks bogus! (I just had to. lmao) |
Re: Live from the 2014 Cobra Jet Build - Brownstown Charter
1969 429 BOSS no way you could put the engine and transmission in all together. All the pumps, alternator and brackets would have to be removed prior to installing. I know, we had to dismantle all when we installed headers on my brother's Blue(Petty) Boss in 70, took two days to install with all the skin that was lost with it. Those men at Kar Kraft must of hated going to work knowing that they had to shoehorn that Mastodon or as Willy Coyote would think an Elephas Maximus. Mind you I wish that we would have kept that Mustang, who knew people would have paid so much for those no go Mustang in the future.lol Claude
