It's been a long time since I was there but it was a really nice track at the time. My son ran there during 2012 Drag Week and said it was still very nice.

I hope they have a great turn out.

Glad to hear the news. Always was a good honest track for us to run on. Now if they'll get I-49 completed it will be perfect with an exit right at the track.

Great news! Congrats to everyone that made this happen. It's about time for some good news, we've lost so many good tracks and race dates.

Brannon, are you going to show me the site of the Bonnie and Clyde shooting? For some strange reason I want to go. Maybe we were related.

Does that mean you have changed you mind on selling the car? I hope so.

Bobby,
If Arkansas will finish the last 4 miles in the state I will be able to drive 1 1/2 miles down hwy 82 to I-49 and be at Thunder Road in 44 miles on I-49. How cool. Anyone coming off I-30 @ Texarkana can take I-49 all the way to the track as soon as that last 4 miles are completed. Never thought I would live long enough to see an Interstate from TXK to Shreveport/Bossier. Sure would have made the trips to the Bossier Strip a lot easier & quicker back in the late 60's and 70's.. I could have stayed and danced and drank longer & still got her home when her Daddy said!! :~)

Since it's so close has anyone seen Greg Stanfield testing out there?

One gift at a time. I quit counting ex-wifes or ex-girlfriends. Merry Christmas to all.

How is the track surface? Last time we were there the race was cancelled and we all came home. Never saw a race track where the asphalt was sandblasted away leaving only the rocks sticking up. Have they run any major races there recently?

Adger Smith 12-23-2013 12:46 AM

Re: Thunder Road Raceway Park, Louisiana to host 2014 Divisi

WoW!, your dragging the past.
That was a few years ago.
I was there, too for that cancelled race. I was slipping and sliding down the track to a 9.97 run with my V-6 camaro Super Stocker. It should have been a 9:60 something run. I was # 2 qualifier behind the slipping and sliding FE powered Mustang of Jeff Colvert.
The owners made a mistake and sandblasted the track with a machine they use in their paving business. It is used to prep pavement for overlay work.
They had the complete track ground and the surface is very smooth.
I was Race Director for the Hot Rod Drag Week that was held there Sept 2012. The track surface was so good that most of the cars had better times there than they did at Tulsa, Ennis and Memphis. I have several customers that go to bracket races there and they all say they have no problems.
Here is the live feed from the Hot Rod Drag Week Sept 14 2012.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mfFQrQdpxk"]Hot Rod Drag Week Day 3 Live Feed Replay - YouTube[/ame]
Note the runs of:
Jeff Lutz 57 Chevy 700.2 212 MPH 10:45 min in mark
Mike Roy Chevelle 7.91 Big MPH 19 min
FYI: Mike Roy made several strong 7 second runs
Martin Robertson 51 min mark (small tires)
Below is the Hot Rod link and the live feed with Hot Rod's comment about the event @ Thunder Road
http://blogs.hotrod.com/video-drag-w...#axzz2oGaWn2B7

Watching these cars go down Thunder Road should have put an end to any traction problems prior to that.
BTY: That is Brian Lohnes doing a very capable job of handeling the Mic at the track & on the live feed.
In his announcing He even comments on the ET's being better there and the Unlimited class times being better.
There is good management at Thunder Road &
I really don't think there will be any problems with traction when Div 4 is @ Thunder Road.
