If NHRA did this the boards would be going nuts!

SPORTSMAN CARS GO DIRECTLY INTO ELIMINATIONS

TULSA, Okla. - 2 p.m. - In order to take advantage of a weather window today, Sportsman racers have been put on an hour-notice to prepare for eliminations.

Since many of the cars were not here at the first running of the event or for last night's appreciation race, all Sportsman eliminators will be randomly-paired throughout eliminations by drawing cards.

So you show up for a IHRA National event that IHRA told is open to new competitors and they dont even give you a time shot????

Robert Pare Racing 06-24-2007 10:25 AM

Personally, I think it's the way to go. It'll weed out the weaklings for sure.

TAG 06-24-2007 10:30 AM

Most everyone was there Friday for the FREE appreciation race so they got time runs then. Yes, if NHRA had a free race this board would go nuts.

Mike Mayhew 06-24-2007 01:34 PM

My first NHRA National event race ever was in Atlanta several years ago.
We had one total qualifying pass on Thursday around noon.
Because of weather, and the pros etc., we sat until Sat. evening at 5 P.M. for first round. Thats nearly 2 1/2 days between 1 time shot and first round.
I'll take drawing cards and running quickly anytime over that.

lets face it guys, some people cannot function without finding something negative to say . would you whine if you won the lotto and they paid you in one dollar bills too ? geezz get on with it

Chip THELEGEND Johnson 06-24-2007 03:28 PM

I would rather do that than make a third trip out there.

when did NHRA offer a free race for contingency payout?????? you must not race. we raced friday and did i forget to mention it was, oh yeah free!!!!!!! we got two time trials friday in bad weather conditions. NHRA would have said just ONE, SORRY when we run one round of eleminations friday then run second saturday thats without a time trial. whats the difference?????? don't get me wrong i like NHRA but give IHRA a break they did a VERY good job under the circumstance's. there shouldn't be anyone out there that thinks they're too good for another sanction. if everyone would get off there high horse we could get more nationals closer to your home.

Lyn Smith 06-24-2007 05:00 PM

Who won the free race?Didnt see any results .

Lyn Smith

Myron Piatek 06-24-2007 05:46 PM

Lyn, There weren't any "results" posted like we normally see. But IHRA listed the winners in this news story afterwards.

Everyone should've been able to make at least three runs on Friday (two time trials and first round of the FREE race). This is more runs than a typical national event where we get two qualifiers on Friday and go right into first round on Saturday. I got home at 1am last night and was thankful that if Cody really HAD to put an .014 package on me first round, I was happy to have Sunday to travel.

Tony did a great job on me Friday night, too!

If y'all were there, maybe you'd understand how things really went down. Tulsa has a great facility and IHRA did a great job of dealing with some very adverse conditions.

Wierd... everybody at the race had a great time, and somebody that didn't go is complaining? LMAO!

I think with all the rain we had, they did a great job. I'm local and would rather run it like that than try to do it all over again another weekend. There have not been many dray days around here lately.
Btw, Tony Wood did a great job. Congrats!

yea, what Tony, Chip and Robert said...............

Time trials are highly over-rated!!

Sure wish we would've give everybody a time run...then I could have seen the sun come up two days in a row without sleep in between...

Jeremy 06-25-2007 04:58 PM

No nothing

Not only was there no time runs for the Tulsa Saturday race. There also was nothing even looked at during check in, there was no one asked to go across the scales, there was no gas checks, we were told there would not be heads up runs, and we were paired as we pulled to the lanes. Also second round started around 1:00 A.M. and the last round was after 4:00 on Sunday.
In other words it was just a bracket race and since I don't care for bracket racing, I will not be returning to this race again.
Thanks

isnt that what this is, with the exception of a heads up run here and there? if you want heads up go race pro mod

Rick4310 06-25-2007 06:54 PM

I believe the reason the did away with the weighing and fuel checks was to help speed up the process. If there's no heads up races then it really is not worth the time it take to do it. The last final was @ 3:31 Am sunday morning, my son was in it winning Quick Rod....

Ty Webb 06-25-2007 09:58 PM

Rick,

Congrats on your son winning Quick Rod! I guess he was young unough to stay awake that long?

Rick4310 06-25-2007 11:11 PM

Yeah at 4 cars there was a 17 & 18 yr old and 2 night owls used to the all nighters Slate Cummings & Troy Williams..

iceman 06-26-2007 07:51 AM

Hey Rick...your son is only 17....I think your wife told me that about 19 times in the winners circle....congrats again and welcome to IHRA.

Marc

Michael Beard 06-26-2007 01:01 PM

You just can't controll the weather. Tough decissions must be made.
