Which pts meet would you delete?

If you had the power to remove a points meet from the schedule in your Division, which one would it be and why? Maybe with enough input your division director will listen and move the event to a better track. Or at least force the track to make improvements!!!!

Re: Which pts meet would you delete?

In D1 we have a pretty good amount of tracks with 3 of them holding National Events in Epping, Maple Grove & E-Town and I think it's only a matter of time before we see Virginia come back on the map with a National. I think if you asked most racers now in D-1 with Epping being on the schedule would be to move Virginia to D2 (Since it's very close to the NC Boarder) to give them something not in the lower states of Fla, Ga or Tn and maybe give Charlotte back it's Divisional. I know the 1st one wasn't successful to Bruton but, there was a hurricane coming up the coast so most racers we're worried about their personal things then racing. This way you have a well spread out map for D-2.

The other tracks would be Atco, Cecil & Leb Valley. I guess if there was one track that might need improvements and a lot of racers complain about is Leb Valley or Cecil. but, we can't expect every tack to be at National Event caliber with the facility's. I guess if we had to add a race would be to bring back Numidia. The track held divisionals up till 2004 and it was a play ground for a lot of D3 racers to come, jump the Ohio boarder and use it as an out of divisional race.

I'd trade Fallon, NV to get Famoso (Bakersfield) back on the calendar in a heartbeat.

Re: Which pts meet would you delete?

I would get rid of all points meets and have Sportsnational events at National event facilities with National event payouts.

I 'vote with my feet' and attend the events of my choosing, as do others. Therefore, the free market decides which events are viable. I also seek to create and/or support independent events that fill an underserved need in that marketplace.

In Div 4 I would do away with any Points Race that is scheduled too early and too late in the year. Here are a few of the reasons, but just my opinion, on why all Div 4 events should be held during the mild Summer months down here..

During the early Spring and Fall months there are just way too many racers entered, the weather is great, the track is superior, its not dusty enough on the pit roads, and because of the weather you have to wear long sleeve shirts and jackets and sometimes its down right cold (30-40 degrees if you can believe it), your car will run way too fast, people even have open fires and sit around drinking beer until way too late at night and you have way too much fun, which can lead to oversleeping and running late the next morning.

Makes more sense to me to have them in June, July and August ?????

Sure makes sense to me......

After racing at Stanton last weekend I heard several Racers say they would not go back there untill the track was repaved. I will say it was pretty rough in spots and several cars had trouble getting down it. I say every year that I won't be back, Yet I still go back there. Nice people just a crappy track. I would like to see Stanton replaced with St Louis or some where else. :(

Re: Which pts meet would you delete?

Delete? Really? Send them over to Div 7. We don't have enough races or enough tracks. California is the largest and most populated of all 50 and has the fewest tracks. Those tracks are upwards of 400 miles from Los Angeles.
To all those racers who live in a div with a full schedule of opens and points races, count your blessings.

Re: Which pts meet would you delete?

Having one more meet than counted towards points always seemed Great. Could run your own div and still shoot for points lead. Having two for one race seemed as good idea also.
Delete one race? Maybe if you had a dump track or 1000 mile tow but otherwise be happy there are lots of races to enjoy.

I've said it a million times no races in July and August in D4. I have sent emails to IHRA and NHRA directors in D4 about this and it falls on deaf ears. Been doing it for 6 years now. Example Crandall race in May was rescheduled. I told Frank DO NOT have this race in July or August. I said it's to damn hot and numbers will be way down. Well guess what the race was in mid July and it was 106 outside. Makes sense to me.........

I was a little disappointed that the Houston #2 Divisional was scheduled for Sept, until I read that the Record High for Sept in Houston was a balmy 108 in 2000. The Humidity was only 82%, but you can't have everything all the time!
But all is not lost even if the average Sept temp is only 94 degrees. Brrrrr! better bring the long handles.

LMAO! A little further north for that race would have been nicer.

You're in the A/C business. Of course you like the heat.

Well said Chad.

Yeah Bobby, thats why you keep your thermostat on 60 degrees in your coach. Cimo tells me you could hang meat in that thing!

Course if your going into the late rounds one needs to stay cool......just saying. LOL

I would do opposite and add back races, in IHRA div 3,I would add back Mt. Park( Clay City,Ky. get Lake Cumberland(Jamestown,Ky)sanctioned back with IHRA and have Pro Am again, then add K-valley( Pleasant Point? West Virginia) and Tri State( Hamilton,Ohio
Then keep London Dragway (London,Ky.)

RJ,
I noticed you got up early for that west Texas sunrise. Did you enjoy that "Cool" 77 degrees and 80 % humidity? OH! You just wanted to get an early start on that forecast 102 degree high today!!
Did you see where those guys racing at Stanton MI. complained about track conditions. Well, no wonder 74 degree high temp was pert-near blizzard conditions. OH! what some will endure to enjoy a race....

RJ Sledge 07-31-2013 11:20 AM

Re: Which pts meet would you delete?

Badger

Of course everyone has their own outlook on weather and track conditions. It just depends on what you are use to.

However, when somebody from the "cooler" regions of the country starts complaining about 88 degree weather and "high" humidity in the 40%-50% range, I really wish that they could experience what we race in 75% of the time.

I could move, but I've never heard of anybody from the South retiring and moving North.

R J, you are truly a wise man. I can remember testing my old trucks at No Problem. It was August. It was 104 outside the trailer on the asphalt, it was afternoon so the sun had beat the humidity down to 50%, but we had a 30.43 Barometer. I was looking for 12.00, unloaded at 11.88. We got more barometer in a Cat 3 hurricane than most tracks got. All this is worth nothing, maybe a dime.

Hey RJ,
I just had a thought! I bet you would like to be at about 8,000 ft (you know, usually above the clouds) enjoying the cool air as I demonstrate the "unusual attitudes" I can put your head, body and the airplane in. It just might be a warm 60 degrees, or cooler, up there. The only hot tarmac I enjoy is between the hanger and runway. Sure was pretty up there just after sunrise.
I am with you on the moving North idea. too much "Bad Air" to fly in.

We have done a total shuffle with the fleet. I won't be in E/SA (or d or c). I have a new car to debut in BG, SS car, also bringing Shoot out cars, stick shift cars, hurricane proof cars, beer can cars, no Fords or Chevies, planning on 5, 4 stockers, all DPs.

Hey Badge I'm in.......just answer a simple question.....how are your eyeballs??

Now Kevin you know that ain't gonna happen....but it would be fun...Pop coming with you? You are coming are you not??

OK Jeff, I'm on to how you car salesman translate......does that mean that you are not bringing your blue car that runs in C/SA-E/SA, like leaving it at home???? And what the hell is BG??

Bowling Green, and the blue car will be there, but not in c-e s/a. It's gonna b e the 426 Shoot Out car. My son Joey will drive cause he is about 60 lighter than me. I plan on driving a V10 if we can get a swing out bar done. I can't get in the damn thing. At least that is the plan for now, subject to adjustment.

RJ, I bet Bill would love if his wife stayed home, in the motorhome, or anywhere besides spending his money &/or time at a dirty old drag strip. Especially in some of our "fine ol' south" cool weather. I actually got cold chills when we were at Crandall. It only got up to a balmy 108 degrees with a track temp of 165 when he checked it once. We almost broke a sweat.
