Englishtown rumor
Heard yesterday that the Napp family has decided to sell to a developer. I know this is an ongoing story but with the new event having done good in NE could it actually be coming to fruition this time? Was told the 2013 season will be it.
Some members here hear lots of stuff, just looking for correct info to dispell what might be false info. |
Re: Englishtown rumor
so yesterday you heard the same rumor that has been circulating over and over again since Vinny and Richard died.
Unless you heard it from Alex or David, it is what it is! |

Re: Englishtown rumor
what part of the truth and the facts don't you like?
FYI within minutes of the NHRA announcing the 2013 schedule last year the rumor mill fired up again once they saw a national event at Epping. Does anybody really believe that Glendora thinks this event in the middle of nowhere could replace ETown/the new york market? I say Not a chance! Further, the Napp's ain't stupid, they don't need to sell to a developer when they could develop the land themselves! |

Your response is indicative of someone that is either miserable and lashing out at every opportunity or of someone that simply cannot read. There are some facts for you to chew on. |
Re: Englishtown rumor
so you/he actually believe it's possible that before the ink was dry on a contract to sell ETown to a developer, that the Napp family informed a "member here" who upon reading this is going to reply here confirming the sale.

Re: Englishtown rumor
Since Vinny and Richard passed away these rumors surface every few years.
The biggest threats to the facility are neighbors and further development of land around the facility not controlled by the family. Many of these effort and that of local politicians has been vigorously contested. If the offer was big enough anything can happen but in this time period doubtful. There are other tracts of land being developed in the area which were farms. It takes and has taken years to get a shovel in the ground. NHRA does not want to loose the NYC market. Glendora would not let this event get away unless there was a replacement location. Not likely unless more of the Meadowlands is drained............................ |

Are you going to tell the story or will I have to? I won't let facts get in the way.

Re: Englishtown rumor
Let me this straight, a person put's a rumor on here and alot of unfounded comments appear and not one bit of verification of the rumor. Let's wait until someone can either confirm or deny the rumor. This one could go on forever like the one about Island.

Re: Englishtown rumor
If Englishtown goes **** up would the NHRA bring Atco back into the fold for major events?
JimR |
Re: Englishtown rumor
If Etown goes I don't think Atco can replace it , But MIR at Buds Creek Md is in better shape then Epping right now . They have enough parking for the pro's and a tower with suite's and there are no better track operator's then the Millers

Re: Englishtown rumor
Englishtown was a supertrack before the word existed....
Very large..... and all paved pits for a number of years....lots of spectator parking....smooth as glass.....and has been redone a number of times... Lots of spectator seating. Two ways in and out...... Only drawback is the shutdown is relatively short but unless you look at the actual stats for many tracks you would not notice it.... Also has a completely seperate 1/8th mile track.... A very serious Motorcross track.....and a Motrocross practice track... And a small paved road race type track...... And they race carts every Sunday in the spectator side parking lot... The place is very active and usually well attended.... Sell it? Well sure anything is possible but so far that has not happened and has been a rumor for years and years. Atco is a great place but it is small compared to E-Town and so is Epping....and both need major upgrades to even come close to E-Town.... I watched the race from Epping and they need to repave the shutdown area from the look of those Pro Stockers bouncing the nose slowing down... Looked like they had a great turnout at Epping but I really don't think the place is all that big......I was there many years ago....Sat up on the hill at the finsihline for a while and watched..... |
Re: Englishtown rumor
I've seen in print David Napp stating that this latest round of rumors was an April Fools joke.
Anything is possible but if the track-haters around Raceway Park knew what was good for them they'd prefer the track over a mall or more housing development (which by the way, there is plenty of work going on just off of Texas Road). Imagine how much worse the traffic would be on any given weekend, starting with the fact that the local roads aren't big enough. |

Rich...I agree with your comments about E-Town over the years...Always thought
it was the BEST track east of Indy...and felt that way for last 40 yrs or so.... We NEED 3 healthy drag strips operating in NJ....Let's support ALL of them...ok? Remember what happened to NY National...and Westhampton! Just my .02..... |
Re: Englishtown rumor
I really don't think E-Town is going anywhere for a least the next 10 years or so. Maybe eventually the Napps will get an offer they can't refuse but, for the most part the track is still successful. I mean Epping maybe took a little bit of thunder from them with spectators as some of the Northern New Englanders who used to drive down to E-Town to see the Nitro Cars stayed close to home since the economy is not the best right now. Plus it was an Inaugural event so who wouldn't want to say "I was at the first Epping National Event."
Unfortunately Atco has too many restrictions with the Pine Barrens act that will not allow them to cut down trees down to expand much more, plus they would have to have the state or city do a lot to Jackson Road to make it allow to fit the traffic. They expanded the road to get into the place because of complaints of cars miles long during their Honda Days. I mean they used to host an IHRA National Event back in the day but, I don't think IHRA Brings as much as NHRA does with Nat Events and they hosted IHRA National Events when the NHRA Pro's were playing "Double Duty". I remember the last year I was there Bernstein, Larson, Snow, Glidden, Rickie Smith Amato and more were all there. MIR would be a great track to add to the D-1 schedule for National and Divisional races and Royce runs a top notch facility and I put money on it the place would be packed better then Epping was. The only problem is he's still under IHRA for a couple more years. Trust me I think within the next year or 2 you will see Virginia back on the National Schedule. NHRA Has said they are really striving to get back into the Washington / Richmond / Baltimore area again. |
Re: Englishtown rumor
The Virginia National event was perfect. Get that one back. As far as Etown, I hope everything works out for them, it's my favorite race of the year. Still can't understand how you can build houses near a track and make new rules...
On a side note, what would happen if we ran before 10am and after 6pm? Fines? Maybe NHRA can pick up the tab so we can make a statement to those primadonnas in the area. |

Re: Englishtown rumor
Ed is one of the finest tuners around. From his many years of closely listening to an engine he has developed an uncanny ability to tell if a woman is well endowed by her voice alone. We were reminded of his talent several times as he practiced on the Garmin, iPhone Google Maps,.....and McDonalds drive thru.
He placed our order and she read it back to him. He then turned to me (with his window still down) and said "she doesn't have very big boo..." I sat there in stunned silence for a moment then quietly said "those microphones are extremely sensitive and she heard every word you just said." Ed's face went white and beads of sweat started popping out on his forehead. He didn't know what to say (a first). I took control and in a louder voice said "he had the Diet Coke!" It was every man for himself. We slowly pulled around and I'll be damned if Ed didn't nail it! She didn't look too happy so he silently paid and we pulled a forward in line. I said to Ed "I kept waiting for her to say 'Small boo.., big brains!" Then the gal that gave us our order at the next window was equipped with great big bolt ons and was about as out of it as I have ever seen. Goes to show you that Ed knows more than anyone ever knew. And it also shows you what a penance that Jeanie has to pay. |
Re: Englishtown rumor
I swear, I turned away from the speaker and said it in a low voice. Can't believe you told this.
Glad Jeanie doesn't read this. |
Re: Englishtown rumor
She wouldn't be surprised. She called it the next day when we were given the choices of where to eat breakfast.
I simply said we couldn't go back to McDonalds. She immediately said "it must be because of Ed." |
Re: Englishtown rumor
now that's funny !!!

Re: Englishtown rumor
God forbid that such a thing would ever happen 'cause I can just imagine what could happen on say RT#18 or 78 or other such roads if there isn't a safe, legal, place to race. I don't approve of street racing and that latest show on The Discovery Channel is beyond stupid, but people do what people do. I would hope that local politicans would think things out for a change. This area has lost several local airports due to whinners recently, Red Bank had one of the earliest ones in the state, but along came houses and now it is industrial bldgs. and "the fallen arches". The ways that area around the track changed from'80 until'04 when I came back here is unbeleavable, any doubts just go into ShopRite when you get off 18 heading to Union Hill Road. Support your local tracks as it sure beats car shows or racing in your driveway. John Kissel
