If I were a rich man,-------------------
This will be interesting. Can you imagine what some of those new 60's cars will bring. It will be fun to watch the event. |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Well today they started to take cars from the building out side for the first time in fifty years, got to help push a white 64 impala 2drht outside on the original tires I might add. 327 three on the tree 4 yes 4 original miles. Can anybody tell me what the window sticker price was on the window? and yes it was there in great shape. The inside of the trunk was just like it was when it came off the truck with the hub caps still in plastic, air was still in the tire. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
It appears that only a handful of these cars sat indoors for the last 40 years??
|
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Many of the cars where indoors untill about 15 years ago when the building was condemed and then ended up out side. Some of the cars where under roof from new on. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Tom, this whole thing just bleeds so much attention from me I can't stand it!
Can you do more in reporting, photo's etc. Thanks in advance! B |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
As I said I grew up with this, rode my bike in the sixtys past the dealership every day in the summer. Gene Bichlmeier bought cars there, my sister still has her 76 vega bought off the showroom floor there. Many of the new cars where never tiltled and if you bought it you whould be the original owner, they have someone working on that also. Many of the cars now are next to our golf course and yes many trees will to go before sale time. A few years back somebody took many parts from some of the cars the did some jail time for it. Bernie let me know what you what and I will see what I can do. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
This event doesn't seem possible/real. Hope they supply a lot of fresh towels..the drooling will be epic.
Good thing thing a wholesaler didn't get in to these 30 years ago. I've looked at each entry and just imagined what history they hold. Period correct collectors have just got their Holy Grail. These will last about 2 minutes.: Chevrolet Impala 65 327 V8 2 brl 3 tree man 4 dr HT teal 164395J327942 6 miles K11 Chevrolet Impala 65 396 V8 4 brl 2 spd auto 2 dr HT + AC (!) white 164375S234835 10 miles K3 Chevrolet Impala 65 396 V8 4 brl auto 2 dr HT teal 164375S290404 12 miles |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Of course the latest news is Jay Leno is coming, the auction co says expect 8 to 10 thousand . Hell our town has only 1800 living here. Mite be 1000 motel rooms within 30 miles mite have to rent out my house. One memory was all the keys for the cars hanging on the wall. At one time a lot of the used cars where stuffed on vacant lots around town. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Ok guys the video is up on the top of the page showing some of the cars. You even get to see me pushing out the white 64. Back in the day Ray had rods for my 53 chevy 6 cly. But lots of old parts are there also. Some of the cars on the list I have never seen. Have been told they are at another site like the 64 convertible. Also if anybody is thinking about coming you better get your motel early. There are none in Pierce. There is a bed and breakfast Tuscan Villa. Norfolk is 20 miles away with about 650 rooms, there is a airport there. I mite be able to give some racers a ride if you need one There is also limited RV pads in Pierce Hadar Osmond area call me at 402 329 6795 if you need help, thats my work number .Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Tom, can you explain why over the years they did not sell off some of theses cars?If the word got out that they had these cars stored away, they would have gotten some sizeable offers from some collectors?Just crazy that they had all these cars stored away for so long.

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
If you read deep into the story on him what got him going back in the day was after WW II they got cars right after the war by what they sold before the war. Very few people know the hardships back then, remember Ray grew up threw the depression as my parents. Ray and his wife told me when they got married he had to barrow a white shirt. You would never know that they where major stockholders in GM by there modest lifestill. Ray wanted whoever bought a car from him to have safe transportation so selling a used car that had over 50000 back then almost worn out was not a option. And why they did not sell any thing they did not need the money. I think he felt there would be another war and he would have cars to sell when it happened[.my opinon.] Untill a few years ago he was just going to have them crushed when he died good thing he changed his mind. Howard Hughs in my backyard. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
As far as Jay Leno coming, that is almost guaranteed.
We had a big car auction up here about 10-15 years ago... Where a sizable wheat farmer had 300+ cars in his collection (a lot of them setting outside), and he got behind to the IRS, so he had an auction. Leno's guys were there, as were Reggie Jackson's, and other builders / restorers from all over the country. They didn't show up w/ just an open trailer to take one car away, they brought big empty 8 / 9 car transports... and they all left full.... Only the scraps were left for the locals. Would like to see some photos too Tom, if you can get to some of this stuff on the list. Thanks! |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
There are pictures of some of the cars on www.oldcarsweekly.com. I will be there and maybe I can buy something if I can get my Seville sold before then.

The vidio is now up on youtube with over 400,000 hits so far. Tom

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Just saw the U Tube video.. These guys may have been car dealers but they were not car lovers. The condition of these cars is atrocious. BTW who the hell smashed in the roof of the Cameo?.
|
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Didn't they say the building was condemned? Think it's 65 or so years old...maybe
the rafters caved in? |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
From the video I saw, these cars may be new, but look like they will take a lot of money and work to get back on the road. You can bet the exhaust system is completely rusted. I hope I'm wrong, but at an auction the prices could get driven higher than the car is worth if it was in number one condition.
The building looked very small. I looked at the listing of cars the auction house listed, and noticed about 500 cars. Lambercht Chevrolet could not have had that many cars stored in that small building... Anyone know where all the cars came from, other dealers, ETC... If any good cars are there, collectors will be there in force running up the price to the level of being way over priced. But I would love to be there to see for myself. |
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
All I see is a lot of low mileage "parts cars" . Didn't really see any sought after collectible cars in the bunch. 63-65 Impalas are not that desirable, at least not the ones I saw on the video.

Re: Once in a lifetime auction
John, I was told there is more cars stored in different building in other towns, From a car dealer in pierce, if you can trust a car dealer? Tom
|
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
Ok guys lots of pic are up on the website. Most of the stuff looks rough. Tom
|
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
It looks like most of the cars were kept outside for long periods of time. The '69 Chevelle was the best car, but had heavy roof damage. It looks like they have a lot of parts cars and some rebuilders. What a shame the cars were not kept in a building! Many cars with parts missing. Do you really think these cars will be in that much of a demand?
|
Re: Once in a lifetime auction
New info I will try to post some pics of the cars that they are dragging out of the trees and lining up. It my understanding that most motel rooms are filled up within a 50 miles. Parking for the sale will be a real problem, you will have to park up to a mile away with trollies taking you to and from the site. The golf course is right next door and will offer some parking and will be serving meals and drinks if you need courage to bid. Tom
