Just a point of interest to
all of you Stock and SS racers and "Dime Rocketeers", go into the NHRA Engine Blueprint specs and check out all of the nice shiney new "gifts" the AMC guys got and forgot to tell us about! 1966 thru 1970 various engines. Some killer "Dime Rockets" there now!

Congrats to Garret on his 10.77 shot in SS/MA very impressive!

Re: Just a point of interest to
I guess that holley carb was quite a bit better than the afb. I just looked and it's a 780 Holley. Also for the stockers there's an optional manifold (Edlebrock aluminum), and a higher lift cam. This sounds a whole lot like Ford. It's my understanding that this package was available as a dealer option only and not available from the factory. Things just get stranger and stranger.

Re: Just a point of interest to
For those of you who don't know, I've worked for a former AMC dealer for over 37 years , and have worked on the owners, and my own AMX'S since '72 ,so I have a little knowledge about AMC's.
I still have all the factory parts books from '66 thru '76, including the group19 sections, which were only 4 pages....ALL group 19 parts were over the counter, dealer,or owner installed only. The Edelbrock R4B intake is listed p/n 4488409 and had factory part numbers cast on them for both '69-'69&'70&up engines. The group19 cam to my knowlege, and I installed quite a few of them, had .477" lift. The group19 Holley carb,p/n 4885730 was actually a Holley 950cfm 3 bbl, list 3916. Just imagine if that carb was approved instead of the 780 ! Also available were 4bolt main blocks, and even a 8 quart oil pan P/N 4485741. While I'd love to see what can be done with these new parts, and I'm really glad to see the 4300 Motorcraft carb superceeded, only the surface was scratched with regards to potential without these parts. |

Re: Just a point of interest to
I don't know Greg.
The carb replacement on the '70 is good since the Ford's have had it for a replacement for the 4300 for years.... the rest is someone playing the AMC version of Caroll Shelby. The '68-'69 T/A Javelins also ran the crossram with 2 Holley 600's so I don't know where the Holley 780 comes from on the '68-'69 cars, especially since the hp rating was pretty close with the AFB carb. |
Re: Just a point of interest to
since we are the subject of amc's ,i just made a few passes in my new ride with the car being new from the engine block back www.gmondeperformance.com under D/S amx

Re: Just a point of interest to
Nice videos,, Garrett. The motor sounds great,, launches well,,, good luck and have fun getting it sorted out. Its a great looking car, and I like how you did your gauges and saved the original dash,,, take care.

As if the motor hp wasn't already low on these cars now this. Hopefully the AMC racers run fast so they can get some HP on their combos. |
Re: Just a point of interest to
greg same as an individual asking for a combo to be put into the books (with an obviuos HP error) after 25 years and it being granted with little documentation...and look how it effected the class / eliminator qaulifying sheet / ladder sheet and #1 qualifier money....
seriously i just wonder what you could get apporved with a few letters... hell i know a 2.5 second under truck time to find somewhere else to race this is insanity. captain jack |
Re: Just a point of interest to
Jack ,That's probably not a dime rocket you have any more, but it sure ran good..You ought to be proud...We know it out here.

Re: Just a point of interest to
I have a question, I am not a racer just a fan. Is Nhra adding parts making it cheaper or just making things more complicated?

Re: Just a point of interest to
Do they get a 2.2 crank pin instead of a 2.438, Dove heads, 527 lift cam, 780 carb instead of a 735, and Edelbrock heads. That was 15 years ago. What happened to the loud voices then, its still wrong and a bunch of BS.
