Indy SS/B just got even better
Dallas Kelly has entered SS/B at Indy:
3253 - SS/B - Dallas Kelly - Cleves OH - '64 Ford - Ford 427 - N/A Now there are 3 Thunderbolts in SS/B. |
Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Mr. Kelly's Thunderbolt is one of the nicest and coolest cars I've ever seen. It's obvious everyone involved building the car spent a TON of time and money getting every single thing perfect. If he does not win best engineered and/or best appearing at Indy, I will be shocked. Also, someone told me that it's a real Thunderbolt that he bought new, which makes it 10x more awesome.

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Dallas' car was sold new at Al Means Ford in Decatur, GA. in 1964 to David Harrell. It was called the Crop Duster and run out of the "Horsepower Sales" shop. You may have heard of the guy who ran that shop, Phil Bonner....
Yes, it's a real DST built Thunderbolt. Dallas' car has been used for what it was designed for from day one, a race car!! He just completed a six year redo of the car and it is awesome. |

Here's a shot of the Wrecking Crew '64 Thunderbolt...

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
In my opinion, this has been a big dream for Dallas. He has completed a beautiful upgrade of his Thunderbolt to todays level of SS car. I believe he deserves Best Engineered at Indy. A true labor of love. Good Luck Dallas. This is just the start for this car. He will make the improvements in an orderly fashion and he will be in the mix at the top of this class with time.

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Here is shot of Dallas' T-bolt from back in the day. My how it has changed...:D It was a great car then as it is now. Best Engineered at Indy would be appropriate for sure!!http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...nderbolt-0.jpg

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
:):):) Hey...for sure the SS/B class eliminations are gonna' be "special"...some awesome cars...it's only day 1...but ol' Ray Pacquet-T-Bolt...has best numbers @ 8.93 after 2 qualifying sessions...Ray is one very smart "cookie"...quiet guy...no "talk"-"bravado"...'eh...just goes about his "business"...a real "class" dude...in all ways...he may...or may not...win class...but...he's been there/done that...many...many times before...and well knows the way to the finish line...wishing all well...in my heart of hearts though... just sayin'...rootin' for Ray...:) Drake...p.s. with all due respect...for sure each of these "players" @ Indy in SS/B...deserve lots of respect/regard...Ray has worked longer/harder "hisself"... continously/progressively...(no race/year interuptions)...with the 427 HiRiser-T-Bolt car...than anybody...but hey...ya' all knew that! :D

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
SS/B will be fun. Adams ran 9.04 or so, but the Audiocast said "only 133" mph. Paquet was 150.
Ah, the games we play in Class Racing... :D |
Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Five cars in SS/B and the fast three are Thunderbolts. I am enjoying this.
Certainly the re-learning curve wasn't too steep for Dallas Kelly. I eagerly await the next couple days. |

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Paquet @ 8.93 clearly has the lead.
Next three are 9.04 / 9.07 / 9.09 & Bridges @ 9.20. My AMX buddy Adkins has the 9.09 and he ran the same 1st & 2nd session while everybody else slowed on the 2nd session. 2nd place is still runner up but that looks like the race to watch. Track & clutch could make or break any of those guys. But my hat's off to Paquet; he sure has an advantage going into class runoffs! Edit: I just noticed Mike Carr's post that the 9.04 was "only" 133 MPH. Ayeya.... And how about the #1 "traditional" SS car being Garett Ghezzi with his SS/MA AMX! Yea, I know, he's only #8 but the rest of the cars from 1-7 are built in this century... |

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
ahhhh...this aint lookin' good for my fellow AMC'er!

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
:):):)...How 'bout that Pacquet???!!!***...a .214 (?!) light in class final...and still wins by 17 feet @ finish...as "stated" previously...Ray's not a "bravado" guy...and I'm surely not the fan club president :D...guys with way bigger wallets/budgets...come & go...Ray just keeps working hard on his "mess"...all 5 cars/racers in this years SS/B class...are/were awesome 3-pedal "bad joses'...Ray...a "class" act...always has been... the old Ford Motor Company phrase..."the Best...never Rest"...fits...'eh... Congrats are in order! :) Drake

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Glad to see Ray win the class. There is not a finer guy at the racetrack than Ray Paquet. A class act of a person on and off the 1320. Congrats to him!

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Great job Ray.
None of those 5 cars ran badly, 9.0's and quicker are awesome for 2500ft or worse air. Ray's 8.89 in the miserable conditions there would be an 8.75 at Mission next May. |
Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
As pointed out Friday night by the man, and legend, code name Redman; the averge age of the B-stick guys is about 70. That's cool!

Re: Indy SS/B just got even better
Stephan,I was with Dallas in B.G.Meet you guys down there.I tried to get off work but couldn't so he has been on his own at Indy.Just like the shirts say.....OLD GUYS RULE! It should be a good showdown.

No problem on the shirts. Its a shame the rain has set in.We really need it but it could have stayed away for a few more days.I think right now Dallas would trade pretty for fast! It wont take him long to figure it out. How's dad feeling? He was hurting pretty bad at B.G. Take care of him.
