"Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

Well first of all, they are not parking at Linder's Lot! We have had a very interesting evening! We are parked at Walmart about 4 miles from the track. We got here around 5 and all of us went Walmart shopping. We had just finished shopping and were putting everything away in the motorhomes when we heard the storm sirens. Mike and Paula Cotten, being from Oklahoma knew just what they were. Eric and Deb Bell being from Arizona didn't know at all what was going on. The sky had turned black and the wind was blowing and a little rain. We all went back into the Walmart and everyone was told to get in the back of the store. Tornado warnings were all around. We were in Walmart for probably half an hour with the power off for just a few of those minutes. Then the warnings were lifted and there was just high wind warnings. And it poured down rain! After it calmed down a little we went to a great Mexican restaurant and enjoyed a great meal. Then we drove out to the track. There were quite a few trees and limbs down on the way. There was lots of rain, but I think it has been pretty dry here, so Linders Lot did not look too bad. We plan on being out there when they open at 8 in the morning. We will post more then. Oh there is still room here at Walmart for more rigs tonight. There are only 6 here now.

Those storms must like trekking down I-80, following you from Joliet. Good luck at Norwalk

We are in and parked at Linders Lot. We are #2 in line behind Mike Walter. It was all in the timing this morning. They did not open the gate until 8:00 and people were pulled off the side of the road, but the local traffic did not seem too happy to see us. The grass is wet, but it has been so dry here, most of the rain soaked in. There are about 20 rigs here so far.

Joe, we will see you tomorrow.

Jim, thanks for the good luck wishes. We need them!

More later.

Well it has been a nice relaxing day here in line. I got the motorhome cleaned up and that was about it. Just had a good dinner with the Cottens and Bells. They were all worn out after a day at Cedar Point! There is still only 40 or so cars in line, except for the comp line which it didn't look like were numbered.

Tomorrow is a sleep in day with more lounging.

More later.

Oh, BTW, we were sitting around talking after dinner and Larry got ***** on by a bird. Hopefully things will go better later in the week. LOL

Tell Larry it gets worse after you get a bald spot. I think they aim for shiney things. I have been hit so many times that I have friends who will no longer stand next to me outdoors, for fear of stray "bullets". LOL

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

NHRA has posted a detailed run schedule , and it only shows six rounds of stock. At this time there are 65 cars entered,so if everyone shows up there will have to be seven rounds if my math is correct. I suspect they believe that there will be at least one no show.

On another note, we had a pretty strong storm at our place Sunday with half dollar size hail. I discovered last night it broke the two vent covers on my trailer. I will need to fix them before I can head out. If anybody has some advice about this I would appreciate the information.

I plan on being there sometime tomorrow. See you all then.

LOL. Is that what a "drive-by" on Oklahoma is called? Here in Pennsyltucky, a drive-by is when the Amish buggy drives by and the horse takes a dump on the road in front of my house.

Heads up in Linders lot. Storming now here in Fremont, approx. 30 miles west of you, wind gusts heavy rain. Will most likely go directly to you. So if you've got the awnings out I'd pull them in. Joe

Joe, we were out to lunch while it was raining, but it looks like it rained pretty hard. It was so dry here though that it really isn't looking muddy. I don't know how it will be when everyone starts pulling out and parking in the morning, but right now it is not bad.

Allright Hills, we need some gossip;, inuendo, or whatever you got. You gotta watch the Oaklahoma people, they got lots of secrets. Let us know. July 4, we are really needing something since we aint there. You and Miss Patsy are expected in Denver. Cotten already there. Me and mama are going along with a few dogs and Kevin and John. Yall gotta go just to protect your self. Keep us posted.

Larry Hill 07-03-2012 11:28 PM

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

Sorry Jeff, but we have a divisional race in Columbus, then a nice visit with Al and Bev Provoast, then a divisional in Stanton while you are in Denver. Besides, Larry says he is not going back to Denver! I am sure you and Miss Carolyn and Mike and Paula will have great fun there!

Well we are under a tornado warning here in Norwalk according to Paula's cellphone. But there are stars out~

Larry, Mike and Eric went to Cleveland tonight to watch an Indians game. That is one of the teams that Eric used to play for. All us girls stayed home and played Phase 10 and Mexican dominoes. There were texts from the guys saying they were having fun, but I think they were in a rain delay so they are headed back.

We should be moving over to the track in the morning around 9, so more tomorrow.

Larry Hill 07-04-2012 08:45 AM

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

Well it is 8:45 and everyone is ready to move on over. The people with the credentials and not here handing them out yet. Maybe they are going to do like Chicago and give them to you as you go out the gate. It did not do anything but sprinkle here overnight, so Linders Lot is not muddy now. I don't know how it will be when everyone starts moving. It is already hot here. Supposed to be 90's today.

More later

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

The Hills lost their internet connection when they were moved to their pitting area. So I will try to bring this thread up to date.

The average wait in Lender lot today was three hours and thirty five minutes. The temps hovered in the mid nineties with a steady breeze out of the west all day. It is my guess that there was just not enough staff to move the racers in any faster. They did keep things in good order during the wait in my opion.

There seemed to be a lot of dicussions about drug testing and how it was administered at Joliet. At least two of the groups that I stopped in on had that as the topic.

Tech was conducted on the east side of the track as is usually the case at this race. It went pretty smooth and quickly. The officials seemed to be as heat stressed as the rest of us.

Well hopefully Patsy will find a spot with good reception tomorrow and will be back on the job with all the latest info from Summit Motorsports Park. It looks to be another hot and humid day tommorow.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

It is 7:30 AM and we are having a thunderstorm at the hotel in Milan at the moment. The radar shows that it is also passing through the track. I would guess that this will cause a least an 45-60 delay for the start of action today.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

A 10% chance of rain turned into a 30% chance of rain and now just turned into 105% but what's the deal with this linders lot? Two lines of rigs not moving, I only saw one move in the last half hour.

Sitting/sleeping here in the parking lot, waiting for some action. Thought I had waited a long time (since 8am) until I read this thread! Good luck to all of those entered.

DRC posted a Thursday schedule starting with stock at 10:30 but led the body of the post with "Friday schedule..." That sounds ominous.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

Well, I am back online! I am borrowing internet from Brett McFarland. Thanks, Brett!!

Well it is hotter than H*LL here today. It seems even hotter than Chicago last week, but it is only 90, but the humidity is awful. Lots worse than Chicago. We all lost our 3rd run for today because of the rain this morning, but all sportsmen look like they will get 2 today. As you can see on DRC the ladders are already out. We run 1st thing in the morning Round 1. I need to check the schedule again to see exactly what time.

I have been lost without my computer for 2 days. Early this morning Larry was able to get on, so I typed up something but by the time I went to post it, the connection was lost.

One interesting note: Ronzello is driving the Cook/Hawk car and he has a heads up with Jegs in the morning. I guess we will find out if Jegs actually has anything left in his car that he hasn't been showing. There are a couple of more heads up 1st round, so it should be an interesting round.

I had not been taking any pictures since I could not get online, but I will take the camera out this afternoon and try and get a few. We are going over to the Jiffy-Tite and Weldon cookout in a bit, so I will try to get some pics there.

Patsy, you mean it is hotter than the last time you were in Phoenix??? LOL I have another bottle of wine here waiting the next time you are in town. Thanks for the updates!

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

Hey Rick, that was a dry heat! This is a wet heat! Both bad!

Thanks to Jiffy-Tite and Weldon Performance for a great meal tonight. Great burgers, brats, coleslaw, potato salad, watermelon, cantelope, cake and cookies! I am sure all the racers really appreciated the hospitality and not having to cook out as hot as it is! I took a few pics so I will get them downloaded and posted a little later.

Everyone was wondering what happened to Ben Wenzel. He broke a cam, but it didn't destroy anything else, so he got it changed and is ready to go in the morning. Keith Lynch has his old car out and had some issues with it since it had been sitting for 4 years, but he should be ready in the morning also.

More a little later.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Summit Nationals

We won! We won! Some notes--Bill Skillman broke yesterday and was a no-show. Also Dick Kincaid was a no-show for his heads up run with Randy Wilkes. Mike Fuller had a fuel problem on the line and almost still beat Paul Boster when it looked like he didn't look back and ran 10.799 on a 10.79. Paula Cotten won her heads up over Tom Rambo. Jegs red-lighted in his heads up with Ronzello then both ran 9.84. I don't remember the MPH.

More later, going up to watch Super Stock.

DRC says Rick Rodgers had -.500 light and he lost to Joe Bellardo but yet Rodgers is listed as the winner.

E1 -0.099 11.617 112.98 ****WINNER**** -0.500 9.921 148.14

Rodgers leavs way too early and gives the win to Bellardo.
