"Live" from Joliet Div. 3 points race!
 

It is a beautiful day here in Joliet! We are already in the racetrack and parked. They are parking until 5 this evening, then stacking after that. You need to come in on Schweitzer Road and enter Gate 1 on the left and will be stacked at the Nascar track. I don't know what time they will begin parking tomorrow. The schedule shows not until 2, but since they were already parking today, they might start earlier. When we came in, we about had our choice of spots on the concrete, but since it is going to be 90 later in the weekend, we opted for grass. We are up close to the fuel tanks. Stop by to see us when you get here.

The grounds look great here. Lots of mowed grass and very clean. It doesn't look like it has rained in a while, so there shouldn't be any issues at all with mud. Also it is not supposed to rain all weekend. Right now it shows 85 for Friday, 89 for Saturday and 90 degrees on Sunday.

We got here so early because we left home on Monday and went to NRC in Middlebury, IN to get some work done on the motorhome before the race. As usual they were very good at getting on everything and getting us in and out. I can't say enough great things about NRC. If you need a new motorhome, and you want a truck conversion, you couldn't ask for a better built one and with quality workmanship throughout. Jeff Teuton just had a new one built there, and we got to see it before he did! It really looks great even with red couches!!

Well it is another gorgeous day here at the track. Beautiful, sunny skies. It is only supposed to be about 80 today--just perfect. I actually got to sleep in a little this morning since nothing is going on today until 2 whenever tech begins. There are a few rigs stacked over at the round track, but they haven't begun parking yet. According to the original schedule, they are parking until 11 tonight.

I think Larry and I are going for a walk after breakfast. We are going to Disney World next week with Chris and his family and I am afraid Grandma may woose out on them!

Well we went for that walk before it got too hot. It is 12:30 and they still have not started parking any rigs yet. Looks like it may be the 2:00 that is on the schedule.

Sorry I haven't given any updates, but we have been visiting tonight and catching up with folks we haven't seen in a while. I took a few pics today that I will post a little later. There are rigs still moving in tonight. Seems to be quite a few folks here. More tomorrow!

Everybody is up and at em this morning here in Joliet. Super Street goes out first in about 45 minutes, then stock. There are still rigs rolling in this morning, but tech opened at 7 so hopefully everyone will get in and be ready by their time to run. It is another gorgeous day here. Supposed to be 85 by the end of the day.

65 cars went down first pass. had a little tail wind. 83 dry bulb, 67 wet bulb, 430'. Steven Dzorny got pulled back first run. Randy Eakins # 1 at -1.06 under. Lou Conkey is # 4. Great to see Lou and Judy back out. I haven't got to talk to them yet. I will try to get there later today. A few cars they had in the wrong class, so it may take them a little while to get it sorted out.

Just made our 2nd run. Got qualified this time. Some picked up, some slowed. They are showing a 3rd run today, but I assume it is a clean-up run.

It has been a hot day today, but a little breeze blowing all day so it hasn't been too bad. There was a clean up run late this evening. We moved down a spot. We have been enjoying a little "Sex at the racetrack" this evening. Dyno Dan came over and celebrated his breaking into the 8's with us this afternoon with one of our local cocktails! Congrats, Dan!

Well it is going to be another hot one here in Joliet! 91 this afternoon. Super street should be called up any time now and then Stock. We are scheduled to run 1st round at 2 this afternoon.

Patty, here's a great story that I was priviledge to witness at the 2010 U.S. National Roz Gresens had just entered the staging lane and walk away from her car, next to her was Don Garlits in his car, well Don walks over to her car and checks her car up and down, and was quite taken aback when he saw that it was a standard shift car, since I was next to them I saw Don start asking questions and showing a genuine interest about her car and after talking to him later he told me that he was quite impress to see her her shifting prowess. 74 cars went down this morning, but Jason McCormack didn't go down, so that makes at least 75 stockers. Jason broke a throttle cable yesterday, but is getting one delivered this morning, so he should be able to make 1st round this afternoon. A few picked up this morning including us. It is getting warmer and is supposed to be more humid today. Humidity wasn't bad at all yesterday.

Downing did win as well as Jack Larsen. 4 O/SA cars and they all had heads up!

We won! We won! There were lots of close races. I'm sure DRC will have the results up soon. They are running ahead of schedule and announced that we will run Round 2 around 6 tonight.

Thanks for the pictures and info. Sooooo wish we were there rather than in the hospital. Even though I just melt in this hot weather, it's KILLING us being stuck here. We are still shooting to be at the Nationals at the end of the month with Tony's car, so we will get out soon.

We have been down because TD and TS Problems first a bad TD oil down and now a crash. SS was scheduled for first round and they even added 2nd Round Stock tonight. But that looks doubtful to me, but I could be wrong, and often am.

As Paul said, we have gone from being ahead by a couple of hours to behind by a couple of hours. They are still cleaning up a Top Sportsmen crash now. I don't think we will get to Round 2 tonight either.

Hey Beth, we miss you guys out here. Hope Alex is feeling better and we will see you at the Nationals here in a couple of weeks.

They finally cancelled out Stock around 7:30 this evening. There were lots of oil downs and crashes in TD and TS. On one of the spills, we heard they used 28 bags of oil dry to clean up 44 quarts of diesel oil. The clean-up crew did a great job of cleaning up all the major messes all day. They are still running now, but we are ready for bed. We haven't heard the schedule for tomorrow yet, but probably start at 8 with super street, then stock.

It was a Top Dragster with a cummins diesel engine. It had 2 sets of twin turbos. The oil pan was bowed out about 4 inches and scraping the ground, when he came off the track. The oil pan also had a couple of holes.

The dragster that lost the motor had a DT-466 engine if I'm not mistaken. The Scheid Diesel dragster has the 5.9 Cummins and did not oil the track. It definately laid down a lot of oil!

There have been no announcements yet, but I think Super Street starts out in about half an hour at 8, then stock according to the original schedule. Larry and I were commenting this morning about the fact that we had not watched TV this weekend at all. Then we realized it has not rained! It has been just really comfortable to sit outside as long as you were in the shade. Up in the stands is pretty brutal, but in the shade it is nice.

Well on to Round 2 ( and hopefully more)!
