Please help me name my Opel
 

Hey guys just got my car painted and lettered but as you can see the doors empty, My son and I cant come up with a name, anybody got anything? How did you come up with your cars name?

it's the year 2012, racers haven't named their car in about 30 years.;)

The doors should be empty now, they're meant for a sponsor's business name.

Guess im a little more old school than i thought. lol. My 14yr old son(crew chief) asked me what were gonna call it, said I had no idea.

How about the cars original name...do you know any history about the cars origins as in who built it and raced it.

I would put TDC Racing, with racing under the TDC

that way if you were to get a sponsor, just take that off and put their name on

That picture is how i've raced it for the last 3 years in primer, its come a long way over the winter.

And yes i know the history of the car and i didnt want to take anything away from that, its had quite a legacy for the last 32 years. I have heard that its bad luck to change the name of a boat but cars im not sure of.

Yeah I've had people come up to me and say nice vette. I just say it used to be, till I washed it and it shrunk. lol:D

I took the car down friday nite to atco after all the stuff i did to it over the winter, lowering the car 2 inches,new front tires,new 850 demon. the car still handles great, you guys think it would be all over the track but its not, dead straight all the way down till i let off,then it springs back straight and gets a little scary but other than that it drives better then my jeep. I do have to get rid of the demon though, I think my old holley is more consistant and faster.

I had a car do something simular once, under power it was straight as a string but let out of it and it was a hand full !
The problem turned out to be not enough positive caster which actually got worse when the front end settled down.
I had the front end realigned with more positive caster and it drove like a proveribal cadillac! :D

I had someone tell me once that it was from the slicks being forced over from torque and when i let off it springs back? anyway i need to get the front end aligned anyway so ill talk to them about it. Thanks

If it was an Opel Kadette, I'd go with Der Mini-Brute II or something as a tribute to the original. If you had painted it pearl white, then it could have been the Opal Opel. Or go with the "When I grow up I wanna be a Corvette" theme. Diminuitive Vette? Babelfish translates "Miniature Corvette" into German as "Minikorvette". Maybe Mein Korvette?

Searching www.google.de for Opel GT I see original advertisements stating „nur Fliegen ist schöner“ which I guess literally translates to "Only flying is nicer".

If it was painted red, then Baron Von Opel would be appropriate.

A Blue Max (Blauer Max) theme might work.

A well known S/G racer, Marty Krohn had one in the 80's and won some races with his.

He called it the "Pocket Rocket"

The Wayne County car was easily the best Opel GT ever.

It changed hands a few times and was owned by a number of very successfull racers....

A friend of mine had bought the opel and pulled the motor out and slowly stripped it, So it sat out back of his place as a body and rear,no windows in the rain for a year or two. I knew the history of the car as my brother worked with Jim Zane who raced it from 1980 to1996 when he crashed it .Jim also set I think 7 national records in those years. But other than that i dont know a whole lot. Sometimes Issac Zane is on here maybe he can chime in since he used to run the car also. Anyway i always had hotrods but ever since i was a kid wanted a race car so i made a deal with my friend and paid him a little at a time, put it back together and here i am. I still need alot of help as i suck as a driver(damn red lights) lol, but im learning and spending some quality time with my son doing it , so its worth it to me.

Let's not forget Bob Kaiser's Opel GT . The Kaiser & Heffernan Opel won many many races and also a World Championship in 89 !!!

Interestingly, the Opel was pearl white when Jim first got it. That Opal Opel would hve worked then.
You call it what you decide! An early name that didn't make the cut that certainly won't work now is Buzz'n Half Dozen. Of course that was with the 6 cylinder. The "Wind Of Change" name came from Jim running his 69 Camaro Z/28 with the small block, which almost everybody had, to the change to the Opel with the Buick V6.
