Whatever happened to the Sportsman Racers' Association?

Re: Whatever happened to the Sportsman Racers' Association?
My guess is that it was about as easy to come up with a set of common goals as it would be to herd cats in a warehouse full of mice.

They don't listen to there recommendation's anyway, not that they don't try, just falling on deaf ears.

Re: Whatever happened to the Sportsman Racers' Association?
In all fairness to the SRA leaders, I would bet that the roadblocks were just too much to overcome. After helping to found and run the SSSSA for the last five years I know there are many times when one could say it just isn't worth the trouble. I respect any and all who would even attempt to form such an organization. Jim

Re: Whatever happened to the Sportsman Racers' Association?
My foggy recollection....I still have the SRA sticker.....Jeff Tueton was the main driving force, I believe even traveling to Pomona to state the Sportsman's case....some issues, I believe there were 7 in all were spaces for racers to sit, ladder, horsepower formula, fees among others....I seem to remember at one point Jeff investigated "buying" the sportsman (Lucas, née Federal Mogul) section.....I can't recall if mufflers were also part of that, but I think that was about that time....
Anyway, multiple agendas split any racer power, and some distrust for Jeff (see Alex Denysenko).....and it slowly died off At that time, again in my recollection, it seems as if racers (and crew) got a place to sit (remember at that time NHRA was playing to packed houses) somewhere near the finish....ladders went from pro to sportsman back to pro....the horsepower formula morphed into the "simple AHFS" and so on |

Thanks for the replies, guys.
My fuzzy old memory remembers something about Joe going to California to look at the real insurance contract, not the talking points that's posted in the digger, and that he had statistics on the seatbelts. After the trip to California, I don't remember hearing or seeing anything from Joe again. Didn't know if he went the way of Jimmy Hoffa or what! The rip some of the bracket racers had was that it appeared to them that Joe was wasting time and effort on the qualifying pairings and the muffler issue. Thanks for the information; the reason I asked here was that this question appeared on my website, North Texas Bracket Racers. (http://www.voy.com/96963/) |
