John Clegg 7:96 ET at 171.08 mph

Is John Clegg's 7:96 ET at 171.08 MPH last weekend the quickest ever by a Super Stocker??

I think John Galinda ran in the high 7's with his Turbo Buick a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure Gallina's best was a 7.97...and that may have been altitude-corrected at Phoenix.

Nobody mentioned Tasca's 7.96/172.47 at Bradenton last weekend, though.

Ding ding ding you are correct Dennis. He used to have a really bad ***** Duster that he ran in IHRA SS/PE1 if memory serves me correctly. Thing used to wheel stand on every shift; was def a fun car to see run.

John Gallina ran that number unfactored at Mission B.C. 7.98 in may of 2003.

John Clegg's car has no help from a turbocharger or a supercharger. It's all motor and naturally aspirated. Now that's horsepower the old school way!!!!

One thing about racing John, I don't see him long. "I don't see him!" "Is he coming??" "Where is he??" "Oh Crap!! There he is!!" LOL

It almost rocks my car as he blasts by. :-)

Not trying to take anything from Clegg's runs at all but, the "Red Rocket" that was mentioned earlier also makes its power naturally and is only 358 cubes of high reving MOPAR! And has been running in the 7's for some time

Not taking anything from Gove, but Clegg is punching a much bigger hole in the air

Has Tasca's car ever been through tech? Has it ever been to an event? or just test and tune?

In most cases small motors in light cars are faster than big motors in heavy cars. Lets give credit where credit is due, John's Red Firebird hits the scales over 3200 pounds. To run a 7.96 at over 171 MPH at that weight says a lot about the power (Nickens Power) and the chassis setup to make that happen. Also John's Firebird may be the only SS car in the country that has 2 chutes to make the last turn off. Great job John and Judy. Ken and Linda Howell

Sounds like a good idea to me. I would assume that Scott is going to try to get his record back sometime this year since he usually tries to reset it every year and Randy Jones has a fast SS/AM car as well. I don't know if Sonny Stancil would be interested is taking weight out of his SS/BM car but they could have a possible chance at the pot too. And of course, those boosted 1200HP mustangs have a great shot at it as well. Oh, and John may lower the ET next week at Belle Rose assuming the weather is as good as it has been in previous years. The morning sessions are usually mid 60's with pretty good air.
