What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Only 19 entered so far at Pomona and only 2 entered so far at Gainesville?

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Looks like drag racing is might take a big hit this year

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
NHRA f'd up the Comp schedule so bad for the West coast guys that I am surprised that there are 19 cars. Two true Division 6 cars and one lone traveler from Division 1 is a sad reflection on the state of Comp racing as a whole though. Expensive class and tough economy = low car counts.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Lots of comp guys don't like to kill their index the first race of the year in Gainesville. So, I am sure that has a little to do with it, but I am sure the economy probably has some to do with it as well.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
I love comp. I love watching comp. but the reality is, these guys spend about as much on research as pro stock. I respect what they do. But, if it's going to survive, it won't be imports that save it, it will be good old american cars with carbs and affordable induction.l

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Some classes that would add flavor to the class such as a true econo funny car, a true econo altered, a true econo dragster, and a true econo modified. Like say, cars 72 and older only. The crowd loves them more and we're running a cobalt.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Dave, that is too bad as we need more cars. It is also nice to have racers from around the country or it is just a big Divisional. This is the damn Winternationals. Other than Indy I don't believe that there is a more prestigious race. It is pretty much the West coast Indy. It will not be the same without the usual suspects from East of the Mississippi (Rampy, Fletcher, Team Barone etc).
Edit: Just noticed that Dan Fletcher has entered. 24 cars as of today. 23 if Kyle Cultrera does not make it. |
Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
go to insidecompracing, they're talking about it over there.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Probably many things, 1 National event in texas with comp, so all divison 4 racers, 4 is their home division, Division 5 racers many were a toss up for distance and Division 1 racers to Hebron ohio can be a long tow. Also with Indy being almost full, I bet many racers went to Indy and passed on Hebron. Comp is almost at limit for maple grove nats 35 of 36 spots full.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
I don`t understand why low car counts are such a big surprise! Not just at tracks that racer`s can`t stand but everywhere and all classes! It`s what`s happening in this sport and it`s unfortunate. I don`t like it and neither does anyone else. It`s not the shocking news it used to be!

The economy is not good now, generally speaking. If someone else was at the helm, you'd hear about how bad it really is...and that's all I'll say about that here. |

Going to go o/t for just a minute. There is a section of this forum called the Members Only Lounge. You can't even see it unless you are a member. Politics are allowed to be discussed there. All you need to do is write to Ken and ask him to join..That's it. Then you can join the fun , and maybe learn something you won't hear on the 6 o'clock news. Apparently there are lurkers there too. There's one guy who could use some help Perhaps they could give it to him. Thank you ,Ken and C/R Carry on... |

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Look at the stands and starting line area in this video.
Whether you like to admit it or not, "class racing" (in it's current form) will never put fans in the stands. It's just boring and confusing for normal people to watch. http://youtu.be/4O2cCR_ROMs?list=UUg...lW2KEyhhAgIQjA |
Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
My personal take on Comp is the 'Diversity' NHRA tries to sell for comp has no buyers. Good guys, work hard, and the group is getting smaller each year. Really too bad, but such is life.

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
I hurt my motor, so I came home to see if I can fix it for eliminations tomorrow
Here is the live feed:.http://new.livestream.com/MotorManiaTV/2014-NoMercyV I haven't been to a divisional there but today the cars started at the front entry gate and went all the way around to the back gate for the roundy round track. There were another twenty rigs parked on the circle track. The place was packed. I was up there a couple of years ago and they had over 70 cars trying to qualify for 32 slots. A couple of weeks before Gainesville div had 34 dragster trying for 32 slots in Top dragster. NHRA sent the two dragsters home even though I heard three qualified dragsters broke. They said it would screw up the div points. . At Ducks race, he added a "B" main with a $1500 pot for the non qualifiers to run for. That is why the place is packed, he takes care of his racers. |

Re: What Happened To Competition Eliminator Car Counts?
Thanks for the video of Modified eliminator. It did bring back memories, I used to attend the races at Atco raceway in the 70's and it got me to thinking, x275 is the modified eliminator of Today. What the old highlight video does not show is the clutch blowing out of the car when the driver hit 4th gear and scattering parts all over the track for at least a 1/2 hour cleanup. Or the axle breaking just off the starting line and the car going into the grass (no gaurdrails at edge of asphalt in those days) and jumping the cables and almost going into the parked tow cars. Did you know that a car actually hit the scoreboard at the end of the track after it jumped the guardrail in the 70"s at Atco.
Thanks for making me think, so hopefully this friday, I will be at maple grove nationals for the sportsman and Saturday at Cecil for the x275 cars. I will let you know which ones I like better. |
