Just sold on Barret-Jackson for $220,000 !

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
The T-bolt ahead of it was pretty cool with the Mickey Thompson hemi heads was pretty cool too. Though it would've been nice to have seen more of the Hemi Dart after.

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
Prices on these factory hot rods are starting to creep back up again...I hope you bought something you liked when the prices were low for the past several years. ;)

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
The MT Thunderbolt also brought $220K.
The discussion about Mickey making Hemi heads fit on the Ford and Pontiac can be addressed this way. The 392 Hemi, the FE Ford and the Pontiac all have the same bore spacing. They also have the same head-bolt arangement using ten bolts. It was actually a fairly easy deal mounting the 392 Hemi heads on the Ford and Pontiac engines. Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
Is there any proof they weren't bought back by the owners?
The Cirque' De Sand is a poor tool to use to judge real car prices. |
Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
As usual, since chevy is a major sponsor, them go to commercial break every time a Mopar comes to the block.
But, some things I noticed about the 5 and 50 car: Chrome bumpers, I thought they were fiberglass; rear panel showed dual exhaust cutouts....?; and front fenders had side warning lights on them......on fiberglass....? Highly suspect to me. JimR |

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
i dont watch the show anymore after learning from a real good sourse that most of the totals are ran way up for tv. This show has hurt the chances of any level head pricing of muscle cars

You really think somebody from GM specified their TV spots be run any time some Chrysler vehicle comes up? Really?? You don't think they run at pre-determined intervals? |

Jim
They all came with chrome steel bumpers and also the dual cutouts on the rear since they were all 383 cars. The side lights were likely added just because he liked them. |

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
Uhh...my Camaro is a 68, but it's black. The 66 Chevy II is hopefully a week away from being red, depending on Dave's schedule. Little boy? OK. Somehow I knew you'd miss the little smiley face winking at you. That means I was giving you ****. As in a joke.

1. Chrysler brought out a 355 Hemi for Indy car back in the mid-1950s. It ran 10 MPH faster than the Offies. Outlawed before it even qualified. 2. 1965. Hemi outlawed by NASCAR. Won too dang much. 3. 1971. Hemi's too dang fast in NASCAR with the wing cars. Limit them to 305 CID when everyone else gets 430 CID. 4. 1972. Hemi basically legislated out of business in NHRA PS and NASCAR. Interestingly that was the same year that Winston started sponsoring both series. Not that I'm paranoid or anything. 5. Vipers kick but in LeMans racing. Won too much and they added weight to make them uncompetitive. 6. Dodge gets back into NASCAR after being absent for many years. The Intrepid body must have been too slick and won too much, so they added a 2" high flat blade across the roof to make them uncompetitive. #1 Rule for Chrysler - don't win too much or they will shut you down. Chevies can win endlessly and no one cares. Chrysler used to be #3 of the Big Three. #2 tries harder, #3 gets table scraps thrown their way on occassion. We go on even against the head winds. We get used to being treated like a stepchild. |

I'm a chevy guy, but I like most everything, but I seem to recall the mopars getting a real Corvette blackballed because it was toooo fast. SS/AH is a protected playground, fine with me....if you look hard enough each brand has some gripe

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
I ain't got no chip on my shoulder, but there have been some stuff over the many years. Sounds like a campfire discussion. But the Mopar wagon train has always be circled by the Bowtie Indians just in shear numbers. Sometime we get a gatlin gun (SS Hemi), but even it can only 'chootem' so much. (Swamp People 2010).

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
I was at the auction and looked at the car. It did have the correct VIN (BO29xxxxxx) on it but was a little suspect. Lots of replacement parts on it like the hood. OEM hood scoop only had 2 support rods. Lots of money being spent there-quite a show this year
|
Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
This car did hold the SS/BA NHRA National Record for a short period at the end of 1968.

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
Looks pretty good. These cars usually lost an oem part or two for a lighter replacement. Hood scoop stays on the car better with 4 supports rather than two since they bulge at speed and try to rip the hood off the car. I think Jack Werst (correct me if I'm wrong) in an old interview talked about the hood flying off on occasion and that the car was hard on windshields-cracked when the car twisted!

Re: Mr 5 & 50 68 Cuda
Does anyone here know who bought Jack Werst's old Mr. 5 & 50 68 Hemi Barracuda... anyway here's a couple of old shots of it.
