Cornhusker Raceway Park
Some pics from back in the day at Cornhusker Raceway Park in Omaha Nebraska. Many big names raced at this short lived track. Anybody have any more pics or stories?

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Do you have any shots of a white 63 Plymouth aluminum car that had light blue stripes. It was Weldon and Steve Christian’s car, sponsored by Cox Motor Company.
I think it won a divisional race in Omaha about 1966 or 67. Thanks, Bill |
Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Do you know if this was a local fellow or not...this was the ex-John Hagen car...does anyone know where this car is today!

No pictures of the 1963 Plymouth. Cornhusker opened in fall 1969. Some Cornhusker Drag Record Holders. Still trying to figure out the green Cuda.

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Where was the track located? I went to school in Omaha in the 80s but didn't realize there was ever a track there.

Some more pics courtesy of Kim Schlegelmilch. Kim's Dad raced a 57 chevy at Cornhusker.

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Nice cars...nice times! Looks like the place might have closed...late '70's?...based on the equipment on the cars....Why did it close...noise?

Cornhusker Raceway Park closed due to racer boycott asking for better payouts

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Here is a video of the Corvette my dad drove.
He also has about 20 or 30 mins of racing on super 8 with a couple of the Griffiths when they were young and skinny. ;). Might even have a few minutes from the weekend everyone loaded up to protest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_OLyV239FU Part of the tower and starter's box are restored and in a car collection. |

Hagens Cuda was bought by a guy named Lenny Lowe out of Chippewa Falls Wisc from what I understand.

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Wagon is Rick Haas
Man, the memories....I still get sad as I drive by and see the industrial park sitting on the track; you can still make out the staging lanes (barely) First place I saw a tubbed Vega, also the Reher & Cross Maverick, Vern Moats Cheetah. Hagen had "pit crew" in green hot pants hanging around cars....just beautiful Kinda forgot the dirt pits....getting spoiled |

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Ricky Haas' wagon went to Larry Sivertsen in North Dakota who made it into a Big Block Bracket car that went ALMOST as fast as Ricky had with the 327.
As I mentioned on another thread, Tom Moock probably has stories about that car. Jerry |

Hemi Moose, the plymouth you asked about I believe was Jim Schlotmans, I think he was from Sioux City, Iowa, I watched it a lot at Sioux City dragway and may still have pictures of it.

Re: Cornhusker Raceway Park
Thanks Neal, if you can post some more pics of the '70 Superbird that would be cool or any others that you might have...maybe start a new topic if they aren't from Cornhusker Raceway in Nebraska.
Danny, the '68 Hemi Barracuda in the background pic kind of looks like Irv Beringhaus old car... http://www.turbosracingphotos.com/OL...CK/brnhas2.jpg |
