Looks like a housing for a camera.

I've installed a bunch of those throughout the years. They typically have a fan and heater in them, basically climate and humidity control for the camera.

I remember thinking strange place for a Security Camera during my 1st. run on Saturday when I noticed it, LOL but that`s what it looked like, had them on my old job, I also noticed the flat black one pointed at the tree in the center of the track? I know I have been away from the sport for a while and I was meaning to ask about both of them.

I asked Bob Lang about them after the race.
They are for 1320GO.com live video feed .
He also said they used them to review David Bartons' crash.

Vegas has had that for the past 2 seasons. They have also had one at half track and at the stripe. There is a monitor for each camera in the tower. Gives the race director something to look at..............................

Crashed the new maroon car in the semi's or finals of the American Muscle Car Shootout. I didn't actually see it but, people said he got loose around 200-300 feet, tagged the wall and grazed the other side of the wall. I saw the car back on the trailer afterwards and the right front corner-panel and right rear corner-panel were caved in pretty good.

Tracks here use those camaeras. I saw a racer fuss one night that there was no way his car backed out of the beams and went red. The track op took him in the back and replayed the tape. Racer left scratching his head but not fussing.

Jack,

You have let the cat out of the bag. It is a secret weapon, but only for the "new" cars. You see the camera on the tree is synced with the one on the starting line, they in turn read the reaction times and also note if you have spoilers and such hanging down. This information is fed to the computers in the CJ's and Drag Paks. They also pick up on the same readings of the "old" car that is in the race and feed that cars info also. The camera at half track monitors the progress and will feed this into the CJ's and Drag Paks so that it can increase power or decrease it just so they stay ahead of the "older" car that is in the race. The final camera is just for conformation purposes and the drivers of the "new" cars get to down load a pic of them ahead of the "old" car when they check their data.

Mystery solved.

you guys are all wrong. it's the toll collecting device nhra was testing.. next year we are going to have an easy pass gizmo in our cars. that way they can charge us per pass.

Mark, you were misinformed;
Easypass, while it will be available for use at a rental fee of $30 per weekend or $1800 per year, you can race without it.
All you have to do is put your 75cents in the machine that will be installed in the burnout box.

You don't pay, the tree won't come down.

Other enhancements coming are parking meters in the pits. ($2.00 per hour, max $50 per day, 3 day pre-pay of $200.00)

It's for ordering lunch! Just hold up a piece of paper with your order and it will be ready when you pick up your time slip. They just haven't put the clown suit on it yet.

I think the confusion is WHICH clown suit to use, there are so many in glendora.

Maybe it's not for sportsmen at all? Maybe it actually IS a radar gun to nail TF teams that go over the speed limit? Every mph over 300 is fined $50.00. To be paid voluntarily by the offender, otherwise the fine is paid by the newly formed SSTCPFE committee. This is the Screw-Sportsmen-They-Can-Pay-For-Everything committee which will cost each sportsmen $20.00, due at the gate.

Your mentioning of a "newly formed SSTCPFE committee" comment got a smirk out of me, but in lieu of the other enhancements we've had to endure, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that didn't happen too someday soon??? :(
