Mickey. as for the Camaro, a lot has to happen, and the first being a lite weight version by about 800lbs!

Re: INDY Domination
Go to Toby's SS class video on the "Live" thread and advance till there is about 5 min left...you'll see Martel in his class run...looks like he's driving a school bus against a race car. The Camaro's will have to get a cut body like Pro Stock/Mod to remotely stand a chance...not much more of a heresy than the grossly misfactored cars NHRA is running now. I like the new cars, they just need to be factored correctly but the new Camaro is just too BIG.

Re: INDY Domination
Mickey, the new camaro can compete with the other new cars if it gets the same bogus hp factors. The hp factors are the only reason these cars dominate.

Re: INDY Domination
In your dreams as I said before You can't race a Donkey at the Kentucky Derby there is much more than just Bogus HP Factores! Longer wheel base, wider, more frontal aera+ poorer aero, Very heavy all this = Donkey if you overlay the Mustang on the Camaro you see why the Mustang is a Race Horse!

If you give a new Camaro a supercharged LS3 engine and rate it at 180 horsepower,I would think it should be able to make the top 20 qualifiers. |
Re: INDY Domination
Maybe the same as the old Turbo Corvairs Monza let's see at 120 hp and a shipping weight of 3865 now what class is that?
|
Re: INDY Domination
Maybe new AFX classes for all the new cars.
I noticed that D. Fezell's Mustang has to weigh 3725 now. He triggered another hp hit this weekend running 1.21 under, will the car go over 3800 lbs on Tuesday? How does NHRA figure out how much to hit cars like this? Jerry |

Re: INDY Domination
Can the Camaro compete? Let's check the Classification Guide..............
2010 (Only) Camaro 2 door SS Coupe, 426 rated HP with the manual transmission, 400 with the automatic. Let's use the stick....... Stock class factor 9.04, C/SA @ 9.00 times 426 plus 170 = 4004 lbs., close to the CJ's? The big question - is the HP rating of 426 realistic or not from a 376 cubic inch normally-aspirated LS? Won't know that until someone builds one! Lew |

Being a die hard Mopar fan all my life I was very impressed by the new Mustang's this year at Indy. I believe once Chevy steps up to the plate I'll be impressed with them as well. Time for Ma Mopar to step up to the plate with a blower. |
Re: INDY Domination
From a GM Body Enginer the new style Camaro body in white is about 350 lbs heavier than the last F-Car, don't forget it was done down under off the Holden/G8 platform.

Re: INDY Domination
The funny part is not one of them will be in the winner cercle on Monday. In my book that is what count's.

Jerry, it's been said before, but I'll say it again. Chevrolet is not coming to the game. The program was cancelled 3 years ago, and the people transferred or laid off. It ain't happening. There aren't going to be any "no VIN body in white" Camaros. In fact, the 2012 Camaros are already out, and GM says the replacement (a new platform) is due about 2014. Chevrolet is not coming to the game 3 years late with a car they're going to replace in two years. Besides, the last thing we need is a third company producing factory race cars to be put in a class full of production street cars. |
Re: INDY Domination
A LS7 has Titanium Rods, Intake valves and Dry sump the rules in stock does Do Not Allow any of these! As the rule state even thought the LS& has been in the NHRA STOCK BLUE PRINTS FOR the last 3 years.
