Well we are on the road. Left at 6, but after stops for ice and fuel, and ran by the truck wash (which doesn't open til 8), we are on our way with a dirty motorhome! We should be there in a couple of hours. More after we arrive. Oh, it is a beautiful day. Supposed to be about 90 this afternoon.

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Lots of cars here testing. It is not fast at all. Some cars are spinning. Just saw Wade Owens really upset at something. I didn't see him run, but he was back up at the starting line fiercely complaining if I can read body language at all! We are not running fast at all, air is about 3000' with an 8 mph headwind. It is starting to cool off a little and the wind is shifting to the north.
Quick Fuel is putting on a Barbq for the racers tonight. Thanks!! More later. |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
It is great to be at Beech Bend, we had a slow trip ,accidents and paving slowed the pace down. Have not been here since 04, everything looks groomed and very nice.
A big thanks to Quick Fuel for the bbq tonight. Talked to fellow A/S'r Kevin Helms,he doesn't have hardly anytime on the new car I expect he will sort it out quickly. Time for some much needed rest. |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Just got back from the nice barbq presented by Quick Fuel. Thanks, guys. Good barbq pork, baked beans, slaw and potato salad, and we got there in time for it all. I have a few pics I shot at the starting line during test and tune.

7am local time here at Beech Bend, it is a spectacular morning. 64 degrees currently and headed for high 80's or so today.
Yes Mr Christy, I still have the camaro and our daughter Kelly races it at the ASRA races in G/S. Kelly is on this trip with me. |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
We are on our way - left late last night and drove as far as we could. ETA for MMR is two hours or less including a gas stop.
Does anyone know if they plan on running a clean up round today? Thanks! |

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Beth, I will look at the schedule when I go up to watch. Super Street is just about to start running now.
The weather is starting out a little better today. Air is 2060' now, 80 degrees. High today is around 88 with lots of sunshine. More later |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
First round of qualifying is finished. 99 cars, 98 went down. Perry Simpkins didn't make the first run. 11 B/SA cars are here, DRC should have the runs up soon. Butner went 1.11 under in AA/SA, probaby #1.
Beth, there is a clean-up run after 5 this evening. More later. |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
The qualifying sheet here at the track is wrong, so they are probably trying to get it fixed before posting it on DRC. It is showing Clay Arnett # 1 in D/SA. But he is actually in his Dad Thomas's car in A/SA. Today is his birthday (he's 30) and his Dad let him drive his car for his birthday!! Also, we are #41 and it should be Larry Hill, not Hodge!
They are running SC now and just called up Super Street, then us again. It is hot, but not as humid as yesterday. |
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Out of the 98 cars down the track, 50 of them are NOT entered for Indy! I though that it would be a test and tune weekend for Indy, I guess it's just to see if you think that your vehicle will be fast enough to get into the field before spending the entry fee money.

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
A few more cars made the 2nd run, not many picked up, even hotter than this morning. Larry is changing transmissions, so we will run the clean-up. Wildest ride of the weekend goes to Bill Skillman on that 2nd run. I really thought the car was going over. He had to get out of it and it hit pretty hard. They had it up on the lift checking it out whenever I went over to ask him if he had to change pants after that run!
|
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Patsy you put the two Larry's side by side it's easy to confuse the two. (hill&hodge mix-up)
|
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Anyone have more info on Bill Skillman's crash?

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
They already have Bill's car fixed, ready to run in the morning. We picked up a little. Brian Livengood lost an engine, so he will be withdrawing from Indy. It was good to see Bruce Noland again. He picked up a little, too. I got a picture of his car I will post later. I need to get more pics tomorrow.

Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Just made our first run. Most ran about the same. At least 1 new car went down. Still 108 this morning.
|
Re: Live from Bowling Green, Lucas Oil Div. 3 race
Well we made it thru 1st round. Lots of people spun including us, a little. Bill Skillman won 1st round after taking another wild ride this morning in qualifying. In round 1, he almost hit the wall when leaving, then put a rod thru the block at halftrack. His opponent had red-lighted so he won. I don't know if they have another bullet with them or not. I'll walk over later and see. Another little tidbit with new car blues, a part of Bruce Noland's telescoping steering wheel came up and hit him in the nose going down the track.
Brett McFarland broke a rocker in round 1. There were a few no shows: Osborn, Weizanpfel, McClister, Livengood. We had about an hour clean-up after Bill's blow-up, so things are a little behind. |
