Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

Jack,

Consider using E-Town as a starting point. Mapquest says 5 3/4 hours to Epping. Depending which road you take to Columbus it's 8 3/4 to 9 1/2 hours. Givin that a majority of the Mid Atlantic racers are 2 hours or less from E-Town that makes the trip anywhere from 3 3/4 hours for some to 7 3/4 hours for others. It's still shorter to Epping. And you get the beautiful New England scenery, beaches and Lobstah.

Sam
P.S.
There is even a rumor that the Brew Crew is going to make an appearance.

Been there 3 times from Md.when it was IHRA. Its NOT a fun ride. Going to Columbus sounds like a better option to me and less driving time.

Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

I went to Epping once.....just for the weekend with my girlfriend. We hung out and watched a WCS event....yea it was a long time ago.....Beautifull area and track. Went for seafood in Portsmouth....Stayed in Exeter.....I think they pulled the sidewalks in at about 7 pm....I felt like we were camping.....Nothing but trees.......Maybe it's different today.....probably is....
We took 95 all the way home....Not a good ride....

I made at least 6-7 trips to Boston area and once to Salem......The inland routes mentioned on the other thread are way better from NJ....

I'd go to Epping anyday before Columbus....

I know you were asking Division 1 guys, but we would have to go thru Columbus (463 miles) to get to Epping (1250 miles). So we will be "Live" from Columbus!

Should be faster in Epping.
When it was IHRA and i was working ,we always had fast stockers and superstockers, (just last year) , cause a lot of them got hp in the next couple of weeks...
I'll miss going to that track....

Don't blame you Joe. The heat index will be at dangerous levels and there will be a number of people taken out in an ambulance because of this. Jay doesn't mind though. He will be in the air conditioned tower. Good luck to all of those who risk this place this time of year.

BTW, make sure and have an extra 100 Lbs in the trunk to compensate for the bad hook. And rain gear should also be handy.

Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

I'll be kinda Columbus-ish.... Bottom Bulb Extravaganza at Pacemakers, just up the road. $2500/$5K/$5K for $175. Maybe something to keep in mind if someone loses early at Trails and still wants to do some racing. Best part is I get to see my wife, who has been up in Ohio since April. Heard there's a rib cookoff and jazzfest in Columbus. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is playing Friday night! Wouldn't even mind TOO much getting knocked off early just that one day. ;)

Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

Andrew and I are going to pass on Columbus this weekend. The weather, heat and chance of rain, plus the usual traction problems at Columbus made this a fairly easy decision.

Mike. we are going to try and come to Stanton as long as the weather forecast is decent. The long range forecast looks good, but who knows.

Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

There is nothing going on in Div.5 now (besides Denver, a 1000 mile drive from Mpls.) so I looked at going to an eastern swing of Columbus - Stanton and back to Mpls., but it would be a 2000 mile round trip and with gas still high and poor weather in the Columbus, I think I will skip the trip. Good luck everyone, stay cool. Dyno

I'm going to pass on Columbus too. Heat index of 105-110!

Greg Hill 07-21-2011 04:50 PM

Re: Where are you going - Epping or Columbus ?

I just looked at accu weather for Columbus and there is a 90% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday and a 60% chance on Sunday with highs in the mid 90's. Heat indexes of 105. All of you that are there or going be careful and drink plenty of water.
