Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Ouch !!!

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
The worst sportsman facilities, bar none. My wife refuses to go back until they improve. And if momma do go, daddy don't go.
|
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Last time I was there I said I would never go back. You park way past the end of the track in loose dirty dirt.

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
The last time I was there - we slowed down one second - 9500 ft DA
After the first run I was walking back to the pits and Bob Lambeck came by an said "what happened?" I told him "I broke it - it felt like I was pulling a building and ran over a second off" He said "get back in your car it's Denver" I spent two days changing everything to make it faster - but you can not make up for no air - well unless you have a blower Wonder why the Fords don't go there? I said I will never be back Ron :-) peace |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Maybe they will have buy backs after first round of Stock and Super Stock.

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
After going there last year on our last stop on the Western Swing, we said we wouldn't go back again (and we had a good parking spot on the pavement). The only other time we had been to Denver was in 1992 and if you ran a Mopar you were treated like a King. Not so now! Back then we had a banquet one night and they fixed lunch for you every day. I still have a nice beer mug that had the date and Mopar Nationals on it, plus caps and other freebies. Last year--nothing at all.
Also it was so slow that you thought something was wrong with the car every pass. Good luck to all that decide to go. There is one good thing about being there. They let you trade in your ticket for a reserved seat each day. I don't like the bleachers there because you start at the top and go down to sit with no hand rails. So I would get a seat every day close to the top! Ya'll go get 'em! |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
At least three "local" racers (SS) who complained were told to "go somewhere else if they don't like it"......plus it don't hook
|
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Randall & Larry,
I think the Denver track has been heading in this direction for the last 8-10 years , will be a pro only event in the future if anything ... I also heard the same think from some stocker races about the track ! |

Still just 11 & 22 this morning.

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Look for the Super Comp quota to be bumped up shortly....that's the only full field, only 252 total entries right now for ALL classes with 80 of those the 8.90 cars, maybe they will take the 'hint' and improve the pits. No offense to my .90 brothers and sisters but I don't think I could handle seeing 140 S/C dragsters run.

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
That Mopar party,,,,,,,yeah I remember that, hell everybody went regardless of what you drove. They would hand you a sheet to fill out telling what kind of a Mopar you had. One year I was driving an R/SA '61 DeSoto station wagon!

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Pretty bad when there are more Pro Stockers entered than SuperStockers .................

Fortunately my last time there was nearly a history maker (after that race I REALLY DON'T LIKE THE NORTH 40 ANYMORE!), but I thank you Lane (and Randy), for helping me get to the quarters! :) Just 2rnds away from one of the last times sportsman cars were showcased on "Inside Drag Racing" (while ESPN had the show). Ryan McClanahan and Scott Burton should be honored since they were two of the last Stock/Super Stock racers to get tv coverage like that on ESPN(full final round coverage).....shows how much NHRA truly appreciates us, huh? I'm rather amused with the light entry list (so far), however I'll hold my real thoughts until after the Monday cutoff.... |

STILL more P/S than SS, entries now @ 28 Stk & 16 SS, this ain't looking so good...... |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
I`m guessing Stock will top out around 40,Super Stock around 31.

Only Funny Car, Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Super Comp are even close to their quotas, which is really amusing...I wonder why that is...could it be due to the current fuel prices, and that wonderfully enhanced entry fee? I'm sure they both helped. Location? Ditto. North 40? Wouldn't be surprised in the least! Oh and last but not the least, the enhanced altitude correction factor, and it's effect on Super Stock and Stock indexes (following NHRA's reduction last year of our indexes...talk about pouring salt over a wound!!!)? Absolutely! I know now another reason I'm glad I moved from there...at least at sea level I still can be competitive...that said I can understand why you and Randy aren't racing in it Hawk, but I'm quite surprised that Tony Hernandez (amongst others) aren't in the field...but we still have 35hrs to go, so who knows??? |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Guys dont worry Indy will be a Full bump in field as usual.
Why let NHRA hold your money..Plenty of time left.. By the way where is the crying about last yesr #1 quaifier,,F;;king Pt cruieser Drag Pac LOL |

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Hawk's guess is not looking promising...even more amazed they didn't bump up the Super Comp quota to pull in some $$$. Worse part is we need a live reporter...Ken may have to pay a signing bonus for somebody to step up to the plate! Wonder how long since nobody east of the Mississippi did the Western swing???

Personally, I think the car counts have more to do with the economy in general (and pessimistic view specifically) than it is about "enhancements". Also, I realize you can pretty much wait for Monday morning to enter a National anymore don't think people are going to leave their home in the East before they even enter the race... |

Now as for the PT Cruiser, I'm not sure why NHRA even let that vehicle race in DF/S...it had a turbo charged engine, and I checked the classification guide for that year and model of vehicle (with it's engine options), and the turbo charged engine didn't have the high enough weight to hp factor to allow it to supposedly run in DF/S...only the non-turboed engine was factored for DF/S...so NHRA dropped the ball on that one, and whoever was the No. 2 qualifier got robbed, because they may have been No. 1 if those guys would've checked their posted info, realized that vehicle didn't belong in that class with that engine set-up, and put it where it belonged (in either AF/S, or BF/S). |

I wish you could attend the race, because with that new paint job you got, your car would be one of the coolest ones out there! :) I wish you well with that new cam...I hope I'll be able to change mine in the forseeable future too? Take care Hawk! |

I agree,it has a weight break of 17.42 for the 146/180, which makes it a natural B car. No way it gets to D from there! Up or down ONE! |

stk 33/ ss 26 as of right now. not looking good

Well let's see...a five round race with several bye runs in Super Stock, and a six rounder with three of them in Stock....drc's going to look very interesting this week! Thanks for the great laugh Harry...that was a good one! :) |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Denver by the numbers comparison Stock 2010, 41 entries, 2011 36. Super Stock 2010 25, 2011 23. The pros were about the same. Pro Stock lost 6 2010 22, 2011 16. Pro Stock Bike gain 5 2010 17, 2011 22. Total entries 2010 313. 2011 286. In 2010 there was no Comp but there was Super Street, 57 entries. In 2011 no Super Street but there were 18 entries in Comp Both Super Comp and Super Gas had more entries in 2011 than 2010. In 2010 63.1% of quota, 2011 63.3% of quota.

Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Hi Boys,
I never post except to correct a lie, and Art generally corrects the mistakes for me. The 2004 PT Cruiser was rated at 180 hp before 9/8/2010. It was at 18.00lbs per horsepower which is a natural CF/S which of course could run DF/S or BF/S at the time. No one got robbed and it was 100% legal for what it did. PERIOD! Be happy, I got 6 hp and .45 index hit! Wait til you see the next car! |
Re: Stock & SS in Denver
Cabway is correct. Prior to the refactoring after the 2010 Indy race, the PT cruiser in question was listed in the Class Guide at 18.00 @ 180 horsepower. I know this because I have started saving some of the old info instead of changing/deleting the data everytime new horsepowers come out.
The Class Guide data is now only on computer and not in print on paper. It can be printed out but you have to do it yourself. Those who do have older Class Guide books may want to hold on to them as that is part of recorded history that gets questioned every now and then. Travis (Disclaimer: Opinions expressed by me on this forum are exactly that, my opinions.) |
