S/S Class at Atlanta
Well, this ought to be interesting. Only 48 cars in S/S at a Nat running class, which is interesting in itself. However, this being the first time I have run class under the newest enhancements, I wonder how it works.
From the entry list, it looks like I'm a single. From what I can tell, not knowing which scoop cars have automatics or sticks, the "Super-Stock Automatic" grouping of singles is going to have at least 12 and as many as 16 cars. How are these cars paired? Is it random or is there a ladder? |

I'm pretty sure there will be no ladder. Who gets the single is usually decided by the racers. Whatever the majority wants I guess. I would think the highest qualified car left should get the bye. -Toby |

Re: S/S Class at Atlanta
Hey Toby,
I probably should have been more clear. By "single" I meant that I was the only GT/JA car in the list. I wasn't referring to a possible bye run (aka "single"). In the past, when I ran class, there were rarely more than for or maybe five cars in my class. So it wasn't too big of a deal to determine who would run who. But with this "enhancement", where all single-car-in-a-class-with-a-particular-transmission-type are lumped together in a run-off, that grouping can get pretty large, such as in this case where there are at least 12 cars. So I wondered how the run order would be determined, if there is some "official" way or whether it was just up to the participants. |
Re: S/S Class at Atlanta
Yes, I knew what you meant. I have run class in G/SA that had 12 cars or more. There was no ladder. It's up to the racers to decide who runs who and who gets the single.
Sometimes they draw numbers out of a hat. Sometimes people request to run each other. Sometimes they flip coins. Usually, the highest qualifier gets pulled out for the bye and the rest just run whoever they are lined up with. I'm pretty sure it will be the same at Atlanta. -Toby |
Re: S/S Class at Atlanta
This all may be a moot point, because the forecast looks like a complete wipeout on Fri, Sat and Sun! Hope the tire guys are there on Thurs. so I can at least get new rubber on the car!

Re: S/S Class at Atlanta
Got this info from Michael Beard concerning stock class combo at Charloote:
They didn't pair us. There were three of us, and we decided amongst ourselves that it was fair to give the bye to the car furthest under the index in qualifying. __________________ Michael Beard - IHRA 3 STK - NHRA 216 Staging Light Graphics Graphic Design & Full-Color Printing |
Re: S/S Class at Atlanta
Hi,
The problem starts when there is a 9 car field (worst example), which means every round except the final will have a bye..... NHRA could (if they wished to) generate a ladder based on the last qualifying runs in 5 minutes and eliminate the dance that we go though to race...... I don't think that it will ever happen because it is more work for NHRA.... Bob |
