LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

6:00 PM, my 2nd test n' tune run, 64.6 F, 37%, dismal 28.74 Baro 1918' DA, 'course the track is about 990' above sea level.

Rolled in a little before 5PM, had our own entrance gate. Zane greeted us, and directed us to pit with the rest of the IHRA cars down in Catawissa. ;-) j/k! Just worked out that a lot of cliques happened to park together. Facility looks good -- nice to see it again, as I used to bracket race here as a kid.

In the lanes now for Gamblers time trial.

!Biondo .000 1st hit in some rent-a-ride.
1st Rnd is in the books. Had 2-3 raindrops, touchup the track, and 2nd Rnd has been called to the lanes.

Pete's driving Billy Leber's D/SA Camaro. He backed up the .000 with another .000 on the bye. We ended up racing 2nd rnd. I'm .002 to his -.005 red, both of us heading dead-on with low change! YIKES!

Down to 9 cars, Duck Tape on the bye. Didn't see everybody, but those left included me, Faul, Nagy, Worner, Morehead, Martel, sorry, forget who else.

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

Started to sprinkle when I took the bye. Saw one big flash of lightning when I was coming back around to the pits. Rain's picking up a little... We're at 5 cars.

Rained out for the night. See you in the morning!

It was a small system, but it came down in sheets briefly (that would be while I was unhooking the trailer!) LOL and we saw some pretty spectacular lightning.

The Turismo made 4 runs in a row to 1000' 13.01, then a 13.00 on the bye. Trying to remember WHY I've had this thing for sale?! :)

Got to meet Don Kennedy, and saw a lot of friends from way back. Pits are pretty full on the right side of the track, although I think we only had 37 in the Gamblers race. Many were happy to test n' tune then pack it up for the night. Trailers were still coming in when we were leaving.

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

Q1 60.2 F, 56%, 28.82, 1622' DA
Q2 66.3 F, 48%, 28.80, 2062' DA

First run, shortshift high gear, goes 13.021 to 1000', then back to the trusty 13.01 on the second pass. -.001 red taking an extra bump, and .030 in 'race mode'.

Had a little downtime toward the end of Q1, but we're squared away and rollin' again. In eliminations, Stk and SS will run separate the 1st 3 rnds.

Sun peaks in and out, breeze is up and down. Not sure if it's cold or warm!

I was hoping they'd have their 1320Go Live Timing working, but it's been turned off all weekend.

*edit* According to 1320 from Facebook, the connection was not ready in time.

Nice day till about 10 minutes ago. Good amount of cars smooth running event, and no fuel cars dumping oil. Congrats Brian and Lee great job.

Little rain delay... Sprinkle on the starting line, top end has cleared off. Dimino announced not sure of car count but he thought right around 100. Looks like a good crowd in the pits. Great event. It's amazing there's not 200+ cars here. Hats off to Zane and Van Poppel for going out on a limb for their fellow S/SS racers, and thanks to Numidia for playing host.

Brooming the track now....

An unscheduled monsoon interrupted halfway through first round of Stock. I got complacent and discounted the headwind, slowing .06 vs Wes McCracken before the rain hit. Hope it clears up, but looks like we'll be down a good long while. Good luck to everyone!

Raining in the D1 area? That's unusual.

Thanks for the reports, Michael. Have a safe trip home.

Talked to Myron on the phone, said they got close to running again, but it was decided the track was too cold or was otherwise not going to be up to par, so the race will be run tomorrow.

What time will they finish first round.

Joe DeMarzo 05-07-2011 11:29 PM

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

First round never was completed. After about 7 pairs of stockers it started to rain and rain and rain. The track did everything possible to try and finish 1st round of stock and then super stock but mother nature did not allow it. Everything was attemped to get first round in, the track even cancelled its own Saturday night bracket race so we could finish but it was determined to start again Sunday at 8:00am.

Kudo's to Numedia dragway and Brian VP and Lee Zane for they treat us like kings. Friday the track in partnership with this race gave us free TT starting at 3:30 and I was able to get 4 TT before 6:00pm. Could have gotten 6 if I wanted to. Did I mention free.

Though I won first round I had to head home for Mother's day but Brian, Lee and Numedia were great and did everything to get this done today.

Looking forward to the next combo race. My money is on hometown girl Katie Sepanek.

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

Other tidbits about the race, the starting line was really well prep and maintained, the food was great and the announcing of Mr Bassin, Dave Ley and Lee Zane was fun. Great to meet some races like Don Kennedy, Mark Faul and some IHRA dudes who all drive the same cars, different colors and all crate motors. Good to see some friends like Joe 'Zoom" Mocci, Bobby Bender driving for Don Wilgus, Jimmy Harris and good ole George Cottel. George put that B/S camaro on the bumper today and carried it through 3rd gear, damn the underside of that car is clean. I am not Jack Matyas but then who is? Missed ya Jack. Did I mention before that on Friday the TT's were free, imagine that in today's world.

First round will be completed at 8:00am. Luckily, I won 1st rd and I have an understanding wife who will put up with me missing most of Mother's Day. I have met a lot of great people and finally put some faces to names on this forum, including the legendary Michael Beard.

Michael,

In your first group of pictures, who ownes the yellow w/blue strip
Duster stocker? It looks exactly like the old Bob Lambeck stocker
from the 80's?

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

That is the old Lambeck Duster. Bob sold it to Richard Hoppe in Syracuase,N.Y. Now owned by Jimmy Ford in Syracuse,N.Y.

What a great race. I really want to thank Lee and Brian for stepping up and paying the whole purse, even though they were short on cars. Says a bunch about those guys and how passionate they are about making this race work this year and for future events.
Also a huge thank you to Joe Lisa for loaning me his 86 Camaro to use. Wish I could have made us some money bud...

So, who won? Who was runner-up? Who won the gamblers race?

And most important, where's the video? :)

The gamblers race got down to 5 cars friday night before it rained. Money was split between Lincoln Morehead, Mark Faul, Brian Worner, Mike Beard, and myself.. I believe 37 cars ran friday night... I got smoked in the 3rd round of the main race today and cant get a hold of anyone for results..sorry

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

Winner was Brian Clayton, runner up Ray Thurston, and Dusty Lowell was the lone semifinalist

Re: LIVE from Numidia Combo in the Hills $10K!

So Funny Joe - in this day of smart-phones.... dumb phones.... and everything in between... no one has posted the final results...... or maybe it is deliberately being kept secret to add to the suspense & generate more interest.... ! A brilliant marketing technique if true....

Either way........ it sounds like it was a big success - and I congratulate Brian & Lee for their success and commend them for the effort put into a venture like this......

My only regret..... not having enough time, due to work & family obligations this week, to get my car completely together and running in time to attend and support the event.

Congrats to the mystery finalists who-ever they are.. just the same!

Congrats Brian and Ray! Barring the weather, this was a great race! It would've been nice to have some "filler" to give us more time between rounds, but I had a great time anyway! Also, congrats to Brian and Lee! Your first race was a success in my book! I'm already looking forward to the next one!

PS. There was plenty of time today to finish the gambler's race!!! JK.

Ray was driving Brooks Lee's B/SA 69 Camaro.

I think we all knew this was coming from Bryan..

More time between rounds? How much do you need Bryan? You lost first round. It's just non stop with you. These guys went out on a limb to pull this off. They did more than pull it off. They set a new standard for all events.

For me they brought back the feeling of races we all attended years ago. Nothing but fun! Racing non stop. What more can anyone other than Byran ask for.

So thank you to all that helped make this happen!

Oh and the wake up call over the pa... I just shook my head. Numidia is one of the best..

On a side note: Michael Iacono was the first car in the lanes this morning for first round. There are pictures to prove it!!
