John Gunn RIP
It is with great saddness, that I inform you, that John lost his battle with cancer today. It was quite a few years ago, that John took a phone call from a racer he hardly knew. The driver was looking for a ride, one John didn't have advailable at the time. John said his ride was promised out for the season, but he had a Oldsmobile roller sitting around. Well, I took his offer and found, in him, a great friend & mentor. You never really miss your friends until they are gone. I will miss you John! Godspeed E.

RIP John - John and I had some really good times together. We had some great laughs and some great wins.
I would drive to his house, pick up his truck, trailer, and race car. He was unable to attend many of the races back then, since his daughter was very young, but he was there for our best win ever - Super Stock Allstar, and Event win in 1993 - with an open trailer parked in a foot of mud. He did not even go to the starting line (said he was too nervous), - except for the final... I would drive back each round, slide to a stop in the mud, he would run over with the cardboard for me to step out of the car, and not in the mud, and then ask me if I won.. it was hilarious. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed. Thanks for everything! Sal |

Great memories with John and Andy Bolz that began many years ago at the Dutch Classic in teardown BARN. Hawk had set the record in the 72 Mustang and while tearing down I had an incident that John responded to and the fun began. Condolences and you will not be forgotten. Duane

Re: John Gunn RIP
I live right down the street from John and always loved to stop by after work and he would pleasantly greet me and tell me to grab a cold one. We would sit and talk about old racing stories and current ones. He always helped my father and I out with our cars, no matter what time or day it was. One of my favorite memories was when I told John I needed a new septic tank and he drove his backhoe to my house the next night. I barely knew him at the time but it didn't matter, he just wanted to help. He was a true racer, engine builder, and friend. He will be missed by all. Thanks for everything John and my condolences to your family.

Re: John Gunn RIP
John was as I call them "one of the originals" yes back in the 70's John was a weekly competitor in the stock/super stock weekly races at Lebanon Valley. It was a good time in all our lives and I know John enjoyed all of it. Sal's note certainly attests to John's roll in a bigger arena. All great memories. Thanks John for being a piece to the puzzle of life and this sport.

Re: John Gunn RIP
I met John in the early 70's at Lebanon, I think, through the late Joe Kenney.
John had an uncommon zest for drag racing and life in general. He would laugh and joke around for hours with me and and my friends (including some of the great ones who are no longer with us either,... JK, Joe (Moon) DeLorenzo, Pauly DelVecchio) They must all be having a hell of a time in heaven right now..Enjoy the party, my friend. You earned it. ......You'll always be Top Gunn with me. Mark |
