Oh F'in joy.

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
I think the factory rating on the 4.6 was 300HP, this one has 11:1 CR, Big Cam, Big Throttle Body, and special heads. Must be that NHRA thinks that stuff makes them slower so they rated it at 235.

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Sounds about right. More bogus crap.

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Last week, Ford Racing tested a 4.6L-powered CJ at Milan Dragway with driver Jimmy Ronzello at the wheel. Modifications to the engine included their high flow CNC 3-valve cylinder heads, high performance intake, hot rod cam, and 65mm throttle body,
How the hell is this approved for Stock? Last I checked porting was not allowed in stock. |
Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Well you can look for IHRA to add some more AA /FI classes to accomodate these engines as well so they will not start running off the slower reg class cars. Here comes more CC/FI ,DD/FI , EE/FI ect...........................IHRA will look out for you guys !!!!! Don't sell your stuff just yet....

QUOTE=X-TECH MAN;246694]Danny, why dont you and Mike get your heads together and just jack up the hP ratings to where they belong? To many classes already. If your to lite on the first hit do it again until its right and if they get factored out of stock....make S/S cars out of them or has Ford paid off IHRA also?[/QUOTE] |

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
I've set back and just kinda watched and listened to all the talk about the new stuff being underated and I just can't be quiet any longer,I'm tired of everyone calling all these combo bogus and underated.
I think anybody that thinks these ratings are underated does'nt know what you are talking about anyone with common sense knows these ratings are in line with what these engines are capable of. I'm pretty confident that if you dyno any of these combos they will dyno very close to what they are rated once you have half the coil packs unhooked.LOL Mike Taylor 3601 |

Good call Mike, I agree 100%

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
So let us review, 2010 4.6l Mustang w/ 3valve dohc, ported, aluminium head, .476 lift cam, 2/2.5id throttle body, 11.00/1 compression, makes the same factored horsepower as that kickass, killer combo the 68 Mustang 302 windsor, 4v. Lets see, yup, both at 235 hp. It's impressive to me the amount of money and technology that went into this new motor to make the same power as one of FFFFords self acknowledged dogs.
And GM went bankrupt? |
Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Lets face it who is going to buy and build on of these if it was rated correctly? For 75-100 Grand you should get a free pass to the top of the heap. If you want a great combo just buy all the NHRA guys a new car to drive around and then tell them what you want at what ever joke of a rating you want.

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
I think the new cars are great for drag racing.Who wants to build a 50 year old rust bucket into a NHRA Stocker?

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Not trying to play the devil's advocate here, but..
Ah, I just deleted a long post. I'll sum it up so it won't be too inflamatory; Not too many years ago I remember being on here (along with others) thinking how cool it would be for the factories to get involved in S&SS racing again. We had all kinds of great reasons for them to dump money back into our favorite sport, win on sunday/sell on monday, exposure/bragging rights for ad's. Oh it was going to be great. Guess what. They did come back. Only they want ensure they get a good ROI so they ensure their cars are seen and seen winning. yes factors are a bit skewed..ok, a lot skewed, but since jumping back in, ford has continually made more and more racing parts available. Heck look at the street cars, as soon as chev announced that the 2012 camaro will be 550hp to beat the gt500's 525hp...ford announced the 2013 gt500 will have 600hp! That's 600HP!!!! With a warranty!! Available at any dealership!!! Is the HP war on again? HELL YEAH! Chev has a 397hp diesel, ford puts out a 400hp. It's crazy. You want to buy a drag car from the factory? Done. You want to buy a body in white to build a dragcar? Done. You want to buy the latest/greatest engine available? Done. Yes heads up sucks if they're in the other lane. I feel for ya. It's not the racers fault for having a car that is slowly becoming obsolete. It's also not the racers fault for wanting to race a new car. Yes it is the *HRA's and the manufacturer's "fault", but look at it from their side for once and not only your own side. Would you dump massive amount of time money and effort into something knowing that the only area you didn't put 100% was where it would count the most to get a ROI? Of course not. At least they didn't just update the cutoff year! How much crying would there be if they said "20 year old cars maximum"? The guide would start in 1990. I'm just saying, it's not good, but it could be a hell of a lot worse. (I thought this was going to be shorter??) |
Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
I think most would have no problem if the factory was behind people racing the cars that are on the lot with the motors that came with them. Not special built engines that do not come in the street version.
It is just a slap in the face when they get a pumped up version of the street engine and it is rated well below the street versions HP numbers. |

Thank you Sean Cour!!! About time somebody told that bloviating gas bag to shut up. Mr. Bell needs to get a life. He seems to spend most of his miserable existence being a derisive wet blanket, here and on the H.A.M.B. He and quite a few other douchebags on here are why many more people don't participate on this forum. Between the continual bitching and talk radio politics it's not somewhere you would want to go for any intelligent discussion about Stock/Superstock racing!!!. |

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Yeah, I don't really care for the factors. I also don't really care to hear someone's opinion who doesn't even race in the class. And not only that, he is the one that does the most bitching. Just sayin'

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Shame on you guys! Since when is it against the law for a crotchety old guy to bitch? Mr. Bell has devoted most of his life to Drag Racing and is entitled to bitch. He has probably forgotten (maybe not yet) more than most of us will ever know about this sport! I may not agree with him but I will defend his right to bitch with my life! Something like that. Anyway, shame on you guys. Jim

I second that Jim.

Re: 2011 4.6 3 valve Ford Ok'd for stock
Ed F. posted this in another thread. I thought it was rather pertinent to this thread also:
I never said it was a poor man's class.I never said it's been a rich man's class. It's turning into a rich man's class at the top now.And as mostly Ford is releasing cars/engines with bogus HP factors, aided and abetted by NHRA,it will become a rich man's class for those who will want to keep up with the "big dicks" for class supremacy. The "little guy" will get hurt when enough of these cars infiltrate most of the classes and heads up runs in eliminations occur.Getting beat in class is no big deal, getting whomped in eliminations by a bogus HP car makes it hard to justify the expense to go to national events.Do you see my reasoning now? |
