LIVE from CCRA @ Piedmont

Perfect weather and a nice cross tailwind at Piedmont Dragway, along with a new concession pavilion and completely remodeled and tiled modern bathrooms greeted a big crowd of Stock/Super Stock cars for the first race in the Bobby Murray Chevrolet Carolina Class Racers Association. I count at least 35 cars. We are the feature show running alongside a test n' tune. Looks like some guys stopped by on the way home from Gainesville. Saw Rob Carpenter's Cobalt, and The Tax Group's H/SM Cobalt.

73.5 deg, 30%, 29.30, 1862' DA, cross tailwind, gusty hit n' miss. (It quit blowing during my 2nd qualifying run). --rolls eyes--

Had a good warmup at Farmington yesterday, winning the Race of Champions (shootout for all 2009-2010 event winners at that track). Felt good to shake my 2011 curse. We'll see how today goes!

Thanks to Scott Tilley for picking up the CCRA reigns, and to Piedmont for hosting the event!

Got tons of pics, will try to post tonight.

33 cars made 1st rnd. Cars were laddered based of best pkg of the 2nd qualifying run (ran w/ dial-ins). Frequent #1 qualifier Mark Young was again #1, even withe different format! Also heard he won a .0001 MOV race 2nd rnd.

I had a barn burner with young Joe Collins (G/S Camaro) 1st rnd. We're both dead-on and I got there .001. Rnd 2, .003 and dead-on vs Lynwood Daugherty, then got by Mark Young and Buddy Ingold to pick up the semifinal bye with the Duck Tape Turismo. Danny Water, Jr. Expertly wheeled the Moser Engineering GT/EA Camaro into the finals, getting past Travis Womble's D/CM Camaro.

I went deer-in-headlights in the finals and came up smokin' late. Danny's .005. Both on the brakes, he got there by .0004.

Great show, great track, great purse, and a REALLY great job by DW. Congrats!

Terry -- LOL! That's what Chip said! Yep, still kickin', and the car runs good. We had a really good race, too. I think he was 7.75 on a 7.74 (B/PS)

Last batch (last two photos are from Saturday's ROC win at Farmington)

Great job to everyone that came to our event, this shows that class racing is alive and well. To all the racers, thank you for your cooperation in staging and the way you came to the lanes. It's great to work an event and feel like the customer truly appreciates the hard work of the staff and putting on a great show for the fans. Congratulation to all of you, it was great to see DW jr in the finals, my son told me I had battled DW sr several times. Beard, great job again racing and for the coverage. Thanks to Scott Tilley, look forward to you guys & gals coming back!!!

Yup, Wayne Gooden (who at one time had the red Volare that Macy's been driving) Got new seats in it, new gauges, new windshield, and some other stuff. He'll be calling you to see if you remember the paint codes, for some touch-up.

Had a great time, congrads to Danny Jr! I think this series will take off due to the travel cost now and will definitely be back!

It was nice to meet you this weekend Bert and thank you.

I agree 100% that this series will take off this year not only as a result of the economy, but as a result of how well folks are treated as well as the atmosphere.

Hopefully we will this kind of participation all year long. I'll be doing a membership drive at Fayetteville this weekend at the Warren Race Engines combo race. Also, as long as you become a member before the end of the second CCRA race, the first race points you earned will count. Even if you don't plan on "chasing" the points, becoming a member greatly helps with supporting class racing. It will also help in trying to get sponsorship for the CCRA series. The more members and participation that we show, the easier it is to show business' how it will benefit them. Thanks for all of your help!!!!

Re: LIVE from CCRA @ Piedmont

This was my first CCRA race...and I gotta say....Kevin and the guys @ Piedmont know how to run a program. The race was run...with minimal to no interruption....with the fluidity of an NHRA big show. I sincerely hope that this series takes off...as it is far more practical and (being a bracket roots racer) I love a one day format. If there is anything at all that I can do to help spread the CCRA gospel please let me know.

I thought about that on the way home and will be signing up next time I see you to support the series. Let me know if I can do anything else.
