"Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

I am here in line and there are noticeable less rigs here then there were last year. Last year at this time we easily had a 80 rigs here. Today there are about 40. The weather is absolutely beautiful, 75 and sunny. The word is they will be parking us Tuesday at 10:00 am but I am sure it could change. I do not think parking will be an issue because of the obvious low car count.

If I here of anything interesting while we wait to be parked I will be sure to pass it on. I see Gary Richard's rig here with all his cars, two ford's two Chevy's. Your guess is as good as mine on what he will be driving.

It sure would be a good promotion for some of these racers to be out in town. That is of course if your (prime spot that you got there early for) would be held for you. Is there so much going on that the track and NHRA can't see that? They could do some static displays with some remote radio broadcast. What is the down side to that? The fans you meet/make at your display, will stay in the stands to watch you race! Am I the only one that feels promotion is good and is needed for the general good of sportsman racing?

The other downside is having your ***** car jacked at gunpoint while you're out there.

Ken, don't know about for the Gators but Gary drove the new Mustang Stocker in the Gainesville Division 2 race.... Was #1 qualifier if my memory serves me correctly.....

Good morning everyone from sunny but not so warm this morning Gainesville. Temp is about 54, but it is supposed to go up to 72. Either way its better then back home where its only in the 40's all day.

As you can see a took some pictures of the rigs that are here. The main entrance road for the sportsman are full and they are starting to put rigs in the general parking area.

Things are quite, everyone still in the Motohomes, and I haven't heard any interesting stories or rumors yet. Unlike last year I do not think weather will be an issue, and along with the low car counts (except Super Comp) the race should go rather smooth this weekend.

Wade, You are correct. If people see the cars in town it helps. The "old Days" of open trailers was really fun. Washing the car at a gas station, eating at the Jerrys and parking in the lot brought many to see the cars....

Wade I have to agree with both of you, it would go a long way, I remember Maple Grove Raceway some years back asking some of their local Bracket Racers to show their Race cars at malls around town to generate a feel of festivity and interest. I still love watching cars on trailers and unfortunately the box is now a garage on wheel which can be quite practical. Thank you Ken and Nitro for the reporting. CR

James, where are you, don't tell me you went to Disney World.

Tried to get some pictures of people working on their race cars, not many people out. I did talk to John DiBartolomeo, he is always working. Here is a shot of a header he just finished that needed some welding done. The Last picture is something I am sure many of us experienced at least once. No damage to the trailer, just tire marks.

Jim, you are so right! There is some very nice eye candy five miles away. And I guarantee what they're seeing bumper to bumper is no comparison! Due respect to John D. he may do a nice repair, but in town there are many many nice pair! You never know what a little promotional effort could produce. Business people know!

RJ,

Its called Replay XD, just put that in a search engine. Its about the size of a roll of dimes and weighs only a couple of ounces. Very easy to use, you can put it anywhere.

Joe, I guess you are already here, but there is plenty of room to park.

Its has been a long day, I had to work on the car unexpectedly, but we should be okay.

Here are few pictures in tech.
Bubba Linke, the Stock Eliminator winner from Valdosta standing next to his red C/SA Camaro. James Perrone walking around, who knows were his going, he looks lost. Bo Kenny with his back turned and Jim Roberts behind Bo are waiting there turn.

Gary Richard's CJ stocker is absolutely beautiful. His super stock CJ is also just as trick. I will try to get some more pictures of both cars. Still don't know what he is racing this week. His pit area looks like he has way more cars then drivers. GM, Ford, you name it ,Gary's got it.

I will try to get more pictures tomorrow. I have some work to do on the race car and I'm hoping it will not be an all day affair. I will do my best to get lots of photos.

The weather is great and except for a chance of rain on Thursday, it should be a great week.

I'm back, sorry everyone, it has been a hectic day. The unexpected work I had to do was a tech issue. I thought It was best to not say anything, but after thinking about it for a while, I think I should let everyone now what happened.

I went through and everything was fine until they checked the center section. They told me I could not run an aluminum center section. I told them the rule says you can replace your original rear as long as it is from the same manufacture. Ford sells complete rears with aluminum center sections. The come in 2008 and 2010 CJ's. I thought I was okay since its a Ford rear.

Well it turns out I am not okay and it is only acceptable in the CJ's because they are purpose built for stock. I went by the rule, I thought I was okay. I was not aware you could not run an aluminum center section. I ask would it be okay to race this weekend and change it for the next race. That was not an option so I had to over night a steel center section. So the reason I decided to post what happen was to give a heads up to anyone that is using an aluminum center section in stock, its not legal.

I have been working on the car all day. Thanks to Gary Richard's crew, Paul and Eddie for the right tools and the use of their trailer in getting everything changed over so I could run this race.

Back to racing, here is a picture of tomorrows schedule. Rain is forecast, so I am not sure will we be racing. I promise after I clean up the trailer to go around the pits and get some pictures. Thanks for being patient everyone.

YO Ken thanks for for telling the story may save somebody else the hassle of doing this same thing at the track or missing a race .Are the Mopars legal to run aluminum center sections. I believe there are some out there. That sucks, good you had the time to do it. Good luck this weekend look foward to some more in car camera. I borrowed a camera two years ago found bad habits and corrected them its a great tool like a data logger.

Alum. center sections are NOT legal in stock unless it was OEM from the factory (Some of the early 70's Olds W-30's had an alum rear option) like some of the new stuff. Same deal with the alum drive shafts. Some are out there but few get caught.

Hmmm. I wonder why they decided to check the center section? Do they always check the center section on all Fords?

Aluminum center sections "appear" to be legal now because Mopar has them as a contingency product in Stock. That was the case in IHRA when Mopar use to post there. Or does that apply to the Drag Pacs only in NHRA?

Re: "Live From" NHRA Gatornationals

West Coast, that's why I posted, I don't want anyone else to go through what I had to.

Chad, thanks for the heads up. The clouds are getting very dark here, we are all button down. We should be fine.

Toby, the shipping was 190.00 the parts were 475.00. It was definitely not something I budgeted for. I guess I will miss a national to make up for the loss.

Rock, and I thought we were friends.

Terry, according to the rule book it says nothing about aluminum center sections. To say it never came with it means absolute nothing. I have a pro trans 6c with 904 parts. My ring gear is lighten, I have aluminum spool. I have 33 spline axles. I have rear disc breaks. I have headers. I have a aftermarket shifter. I have a removable steering wheel. I have wheelie bars, shall I go on?

This is the rule that is in the NHRA rule book for rear end replacement.

"Original rear end may be replaced with another from the same automobile manufacture"

Ford sells a replacement rear that has a aluminum center section, tell me were it says I can not use a aluminum center section. The car is built according to the rule book. I except their decision, but the rule book needs to be changed or they need to let us use parts that we can buy from the manufacture. I thought that was the idea, we race and buy parts from companies that support us.

John, I was not hiding or did I want to hide the fact that I have an aluminum center section. My car is built according to the NHRA rule book.
