Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
What program are you talking about? The combined community codec pack? If that's true, then everybody that downloaded it should have it, right?
You don't think it's possible that you could have picked it up somewhere else? To get rid of it, use the the free anti-malware program malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ If that doesn't get it all use the combofix program: http://www.combofix.org/download.php Instructions on how to use combofix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix My brother got the same virus a couple of weeks ago. Malwarebytes took care of most of it and combofix the rest. But, since you think you got the virus from me, I doubt you'll believe me. -Toby |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Toby....I believe what you are saying and when I get home from work later on tonight I will gladly give it a try..Thanks for putting up the links......yes it did start as I was trying to view the videos after downloading the codec program.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Joe,
Try that malewarebytes link , it fixed a problem like yours for me at work a few months back. Dave |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I've had no problem at all except it took a long time to get Q2 SS to load.
Great shots, Toby. I'll be hanging around McClanahans pit today, hope I get to shake your hand and say thank you for the pics. |

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Sometimes a virus will sit dormant for a while before you realize that you have one. I think it's just a coincidence that you noticed it after downloading the codec pack.
Jody thinks he got it from a website that has reviews for golf clubs. To get to the Malwarebytes site, you might have to boot into safe mode with networking. To boot into safe mode hold down the F8 key as soon as your computer starts to reboot. You may have to release it momentarily a few time before it knows you are pressing it. Then select boot with networking. If fact, it's probably better that you boot into safe mode when you do this. We thought we got rid of the virus with Malwarebytes, but after using it with new updates a few times, it still would redirect you when you would click on a google search result. Combofix found that problem. Hopefully the latest update for malwarebytes will take care of that problem also. -Toby |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I got a virus trying to download these video's. I couldn't even use my computer. I finally got rid of the virus by running a full scan on my computer that took all night.
|
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Well, I assure you I didn't put a virus in any of the videos.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Toby
I've had no trouble with the downloads... But thank for the info on the anti spy ware.... Wayne |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
When I tried to load the codec my security did not let it. I have mwbytes. If you have a virus you might not be able to access the google page to load mwbytes, even in safe mode, you might have to get it put on a disc. When I got a virus a year ago,(windows xp pro) went into tools clicked on last time worked got the internet back then loaded the mwbytes program.no problems since. gsa612

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
When ever you have an issue with spy and malware download update and run in this order:
SpyBot Search and Destroy SuperAntiSpyware MalwareBytes ComboFix Try to void using ComboFix as all your personalized setting will be reversed to default.. Run in the above order and unless you got a really bad one you generally don't need the last. If these don't fix it you may have to reformat your hard drive. |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Toby I would hope no one is blaming you for this. They are just saying they got a virus downloading the videos. Hopefully that's the case. Thanks for the work. Ed

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I dont understand why some get it and others do not, I have looked at all of Toby's video's and downloaded the codec. I have also run all the programs except Combofix and found nothing.

Well, the program used to view them is windows media player. The codec pack is just a bunch of codecs. Are you using AVG? It looks like AVG has been known to give a false positive on CCCP before. If there were really a virus in CCCP, don't you think everybody that dowloaded it would be getting a virus? -Toby |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I also got the warnings when I tried to load the stuff. So I just stopped the download and settled for coming back to this forum and looking at your picsand info. Toby, I appreciate what you do.
Thanks, Robert Stk 2061 |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
There are other ways to get the H264 codec on your computer. You don't have to use CCCP. Why don't you try the K-Lite codec pack? I'm sure there are many other ways to do it.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I've downloaded the codec and viewed the video's on 2 separate computers with no problems. Thank for taking the time to do this for all of us Toby.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
My virus protection also found a threat and I was unable to download videos and program for watching them. I am using google chrome browser on windows pc.
Thanks for all the work Toby, love hearing about things at track from fellow racers, keep it up. Sorry about the weather. Donny Ciccarone Jr SS 110 |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
The avi video file does not contain the virus. The virus is in one of the popups that comes up when you are trying to download the video file.
Here is what my virus detection software found: An intrusion attempt by 66.150.14.87 was blocked....HTTP Adware Installer File Download,"66.150.14.87, 80", origin-ics.clickpotato.tv/IC/GPLCPLite40/14142/1/f01a706d-ee3c-4312-ae26-1ce2e46293fb/XvidSetup.exe I was able to block it and still download the avi file. Great video. Thanks Toby. |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I haven't had any problem either.
I DO use Mozilla Firefox browser, and Stop Sign A/V. They told me to use Mozilla because not as many people are on it. The bad guys concentrate on IE because of the volume. I've used K-Lite for codecs before. No problems there either. I just did a full scan, and no hint of spyware infection. Toby, thanks for all you do, buddy. |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I don't use a virus program. All I use is the stock windows XP firewall and the noscript add-on for Firefox and I rarely get a virus. I also reinstall XP every six months or so because it gets bogged down by all the stuff that gets installed and uninstalled. I also run Registry Mechanic once in a while.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
The virus comes from the hosting site or the codec.
It does not come from Toby or his video. Solution: Use the download link and watch the video in DivX. Do not stream it. |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
The reason I used Mediafire is because there is no waiting between downloads and you can download as many files at a time as you want. Other free file hosts make you enter a captcha code and you can only download one file per 30 minutes or whatever. They do that so they can get you to sign up for the paid version. I think Mediafire would be OK if you use Firefox with noscript.
Oh, well. I guess I'll just stick to text. -Toby |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Well Toby, I have downloaded every video you have posted. There is no virus, no warning of a virus. I have the Nortorn 360 anti virus program with windows Vista and usually between the two of them there is always warnings if any download is questionable.
Keep the video camera rolling. Love to see all the racers and the cars run, especially since I am at home looking at 3 feet of snow on the deck and it is -29 degrees here. Brrrr Charlene |
Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I got it too. It started sending people in my email lists a link to a Canadian Pharmacy. One of my dumb *** friends even ordered stuff. He thought if I sent it to him, then it must be safe. I will be running Malwarebytes today. Not blaming Toby though, this stuff just happens.

I got it too. My AVG got most of it and my computer guy cleaned up the remains with Malware. (SP?) He commented that most of what you get is really not a virus, but someting to secretly take control of certain functions of your computer.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Toby.. i got the same virus, now my computer has pop up adds when it comes on...

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
I almost got it. Click to see the vids and the advertisement pop up's started. After I couldn't keep up with closing the first few, I crashed my computer. My reaction time was about 1.5 seconds.

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Jim,
I bet one of them is from "Potato head" Or something like that. Bob, Justin says the reason some get it and some don't is the way your anti virus works. You probably got it and the type protection you had blocked it or quietly removed it. |

I use Norton, like I said I don’t think it was anything you did and I like everyone else I really appreciate your hard work and dedication. I don’t use the Windows media player I use something else I do have double firewall and my security is set pretty tight Norton did not like it so I just stopped the download. I did not pick up a virus or experience any other problems. |

Re: Virus Warning -Pomona videos
Joe,
I'm for sure it wasn't anything Toby did. Yes, I run AVG and it let me start the download and then stopped it. It did let part of the Malware through. My guy said it was not a virus, just straight Malware. He said he had seen it before. He spotted some of the corrupt files just going through my puter. He told me that most of us just buy a virus protection and that is why some of it gets through. We need Malware protection. More of it now than in the past. |
