LIVE from Palm Beach Nitro Jam

"FIRST!"

Can you believe it? The off-season is gone, and we're back to racing this weekend.

From the producers of the 1998 smash hit "Billy and the Poor Boys Summer Tour", we present The Adventures of Duckboy and The Legend. (Kinda like Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man if it were made for Nickelodeon). IHRA's Skooter Peaco shook his head and claimed, "Michael Beard and Chip Johnson in the same truck... All I can think of is Thelma and Louise.". The intrepid duo looked at each other and stated, "Blues Brothers!"

Legend Log, Stardate, uh... I don't know what no stardate is. Duckboy pulled in about seven. I figger I can carry a golf cart in the trailer. His kiddie car shouldn't be a problem. We'll just put it up in the gooseneck.

So I roll into the Legend's shop about seven, throw some more stuff from the truck into the back of the spacious Turismo, give the battery a little boost on the 30deg morning, and pull it off the trailer. We picked it up and put it in the trailer sideways, on top of the golf cart, since Chip wanted to put his Camaro's door up in the goose. He loaded up the world champ Camaro, Tim Davis joined the party, and we hit the road. Next stop: Palm Beach!

Cool....I'd much rather read about your exploits than to listen to all the other mid winter whinning CRAP posted on here.

And it snowed another 1/2 foot or more here last night.....BORING!!!!!!!!!

Between you and Chip there should at least one winner over the weekend...

I'm with Rich, you go Duck Boy! How about some pics of everybody in shorts and t-shirts....with the sun out....standing beside a nice race car of course! Can you scratch and sniff on this thing....how about some tire smoke and racing gas....how about some sound bites....turn it up....8500+....stick shifts going thru the gears...

Do not walk around with bare ankles down near the far end..

Do not go in any canals or think about taking a dip in any ponds....

Do not leave any food laying around either...

Re: LIVE from Palm Beach Nitro Jam

Between the three of us, we've won about 30 benchraces already...

Just crossed into Florida. We'd been wondering aloud about stopping or not at Ag stations... 1st one's closed for construction, so mebbe we'll find out later.

BTW, I've never seen so many police on I-95... From NC all the way to FL, including many unmarked black Chargers. Just behave, if you're coming down!

Talked to Piatek, who's loaded up and should get there several hours before us.

I'm still trying to get my head around "we picked it up and put it in the trailer
sideways, on top of the golf cart". I know your Turismo is a light car BUT??

I'm with you Phil, SOME kind of explanation needs to come from that southbound group. If the Turismo is sideways, wouldn't they need a "WIDE LOAD" placard front & rear & a flashing yellow light?

If alcohol was not involved it is going to be a good story. I take that back it might even be funny with alcohol involved.

After stopping at the grocery store for sundries, we've made it to the holding lot. Keep your eyes out... They're using the south gate this year (where overflow Stockers were parked last year), 2nd entrance if you're coming in from 706 -710 direction like you're supposed to. Not well lit... Just now getting generator lights up and running.

Michael Beard 01-27-2011 08:51 PM

Re: LIVE from Palm Beach Nitro Jam

There goes another light generator out to the road now.... That'll help!

Yes! The weather here in Florida has been killer since the front moved through. Should be great racing down there! Good luck Mike! Not that you need it! Jim

No ride yet. I've got a blank tech card, so if someone needs a SS shoe, just holler by Saturday morning! :-) Licensed to 9.00. We're pitted about 1200' on the road course side.

Got the new wheels and tires on the back (decided not to test n' tune at a national for once... I can back-to-back them some other time). Currently 62.7 deg, 41%, 30.01, 412 DA.

Will try to get pics later. Been busy cleanin', stickering up my car and Chip's car, getting tires mounted, etc. Out in no-man's land on the wrong side of the track with just John Boyer (J/CM) and Harry Morgan (HF/SA)... Saw Myron, Mayhew, and Jake Sealy briefly last night. Saw cars settin' out for Bertozzi, Manny Sousa (Borrowed Money)... Haven't seen much else. May be rolling in this morning? Can't see from over here.

I'm sorry, Billy, I couldn't help it! I met Ortiz! Raced him, too. Pretty sure he whipped me at both ends, but I may let him feed me later to sooth my hurt feeling. ;-). He's already got two grills and a sling psychrometer out. I think it helps in determining the perfect atmosphere for making jerky.

Weather for Stock Q1: 72.6deg, 31%, 29.95, 1060' DA, 6 mph cross-head

5.87 @ 240 for Sheldon Bissesar in T/D...

Running Q/R already, flying through things.

Saw Brenda Grubbs, Nick Folk, HyperTension, a purty C/CM Corvette, the C/S Mustang that was .000 first round last year. David Hunt is driving a white '68 Mustang as a hired gun. Bertozzi's up under the Camaro... Trans?

Just called Super Stock

It's a real shame that IHRA can't get anymore racer support than what I'm seeing on DRC. They are providing you a place to race, and maybe that can place just a little presure on the NHRA. I thought the folks on here bitchin about the way they get treated (by the NHRA) would take a stand. I guess it's not really that bad after all. I say thank you to the folks that made the trip...the ones that race just to race. They are keeping it alive, and I will be happy to join them again soon! I often hear the racers saying "support the manufactures that support racing" hell the racers won't even support the sanctioning body. I hope that I don't develope the "I'm to good for IHRA syndrome" when I come out. I know I never did when I was out before!

The last is Money. If some are like me I have not work since July last year.
But I do plan on racing just closer to home.

Michael,

I see on DRC that my buddy Anthony made qualifying passes in stock, superstock, topdragster. Is this a miss print or did they change the rules allowing to race more than two cars...if it is a rule change I need a bigger trailer.LOL

Misprint. Car #7 near the bottom of the sheet is John Boyer, not Anthony. Scotty's driving the Camaro. Boyer wiped a cam and will be heading home. Mayhew's having weird problems too. I told him he prolly put the cam in upside down. ;). Sittin on Boyer's cart listening to him and Mayhem argue about what could be wrong. Heard Gary Ranno will be here tomorrow.

Ortiz made wings tonight and we sampled all kinds of pepperoni and other delicacies. IHRA should pay him as a booked in show.

Don't forget that the IHRA is providing 1320go Live Timing on their website - www.ihra.com/livetiming.

You'll see not only who won but their reaction time, the incrementals, and the weather data at the time.

If you want, you can put a car number in one of the 4 race alert boxes near the bottom of the page. A dragster sound will alert you that the car you want to watch is coming up to the line.

It's free to watch as it happens - and it's only $19.95 to look at all the past runs for 12 months! That's less than a visit to the concession stand...

We try to offer a whole lot for just a few dollars. Take a look!

Thanks,

Kay

Great value! And it works! Jim

I agree with what Wade said, and since Jim Wahl seconded his motion, I will have to third it. I realize NHRA is the gold standard for stock & S/S, but they're (IHRA) giving you a place to race like cars (stock & super stock). Take advantatge of it before they go away. Then, the other guys will really have you by the tail.

72.0deg, 49%, 30.11, 1005' DA, slight cross.

Stephenson picked up about .04, Myron finally put his foot to the floor to leapfrog me, despite a nice -1.009 under pass from the Playskool Plymouth. Several cars slow getting to the lanes, so not sure if or how many new cars came in. Already called ET cars to the lanes, so things are moving really quick. One more qualifying run in sunny Florida, and then its off to the races.

Mike,

Good luck with your racing this weekend, thanks for posting all that's going on at PBIR. Wish I was there, 27 deg. light snow here in East Berlin, Pa. Not really complaining, just east of us in Philly, NJ and NY has had much more snow than us. I announced there for the opening of the new facility in Nov. 2008. What a great track!

Have fun everyone,

Mike Bassin

Car count was up over last year. Maybe if ya'll "KEYBOARD JOCKEY's" would come out car count would be more.

I had a great time there.
