Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Still working on my 60 Corvette project, and getting close to putting the body on the frame. The many hours of proper fiberglass repair after years of neglect and poor repairs(barn find that was raced as an old straight axle gasser back in the day) is worth the wait. It's tough when you do all the work yourself. I guess I'm just old school, I believe you race what you can build. Many will never know what that feels like. Here's what I started with, and you can see project photos here on my profile. Click on my name then click on my "albums"
http://i54.tinypic.com/2dmfp6o.jpg This is how it was delivered to me, right off the truck.....right out of the barn. Here's wishing everyone a great (healthy) 2011 Wade Mahaffey |
Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Should make a cool car, Wade. And you are right, that is one satisfaction a check book racer wil never feel.
Happy New Years. |
Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Ihave done about 85 % of mine ,some things i could not do ... I know that pride you feel after a finished job especially after you look at the before and after pics. Wade ,no doubt you will have a NICE car.....My patience ain't that good ......lol

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
I am planning on building a '95 Mustang GT for IHRA Pure Stock for my wife to drive.
My ride might possibly be my '87 Turbo Coupe (in my avatar) I bought that car in 1999 to run NHRA Stock, but got sidetracked when the 460 big block bug hit. Last night I took the 460 and C-6 out and now I have a chance to proceed with my original plan....2.3 Turbo-C-4 combo for stock. :) http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...y/DSCF1957.jpg |

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Thanks Ed and Danny for the kind words. You know, it's killing me not to be racing. I feel the burn in my competitive being, and the fire is out of control. It's everything I can do to not allow myself to take short cuts, just to get out there. It's a constant battle because I have to self motivate at the same time. It's kinda like racing....pump yourself up.. hit the tree hard...now don't run to quick...and don't give up the stripe at the same time! And the rest of the day is "hurry up and wait"! LOL Anyway, I can't wait to get back on the track with you guys.

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
No new car but a couple of fresh bullets and one new one in the works, but my big
news is my little buddy, well once little now as big as me gets to take the seat this coming year. The little guy followed me and went to the track with me for the last ten years and came with his mom before that, i have to give the staging gals at BIR a lot of credit as they basically babysat him between rounds when i would run. The smile on his face or the what happened look when he gets back from his first run will be priceless. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!!!!!! |

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Jon Jr. is putting motor in his 1980 Dodge Aspen R/T next week. It is Paul Rossi/Larry Harrell's old Record Holding Stocker from early 1980's that has been stored for last 25 years. It is original paint and graphics unrestored like it was last raced. It is large valve HP 318 combo that will run in SS/MA with a bunch of old school stuff he dug up in shop or bought second hand. This is in addition to his 318 stocker not to replace it.

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
My old chevy II spent most of last year getting a cage, new back half with coilovers [no more leaf springs] along with a new fuel cell. Today or tomorrow it goes on the spit to get cleaned up and taken apart then, Dave Cech will then put on one of his great paint jobs from top to bottom. Monty Jones has built a new short block something I have not had since the year 2000. Hope to have it out this summer with my son Ramsey at the wheel. Tom

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Tom, if everything works out it sounds like my Nova will be at Dave's at the same time yours is....
Engine / trans practice install will be tomorrow. Hope to be on the track sometime this year - it's only been 8 years! |

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
HA! We're going the other way. Our SS/MA Chevelle 4-door is being changed to a bracket car. More money to win at a fourth of the cost.

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Thanks Dave, and yes Bucky and Travis did a beautful job on the paint!
Problem is none of the parts fit on re-assembly... They looked good before, but now a 6 or 7 won't do. Parts have to be perfect to fit the car! And Dick, Bucky would only paint Chrysler colors.... Viper Red!! |
Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
OOPS! thats what I meant.... Viper Red? It is Beautiful.

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Not a "new" car; (new to me), and no doubt familiar to Div. 2 folks. We plan to have a lot of fun with this Mustang in E or F/SA. Scott Bailey's former ride will see lots of CAN AM Series action, plus some events in Div1 & 3. Thanks to Alex, Tony & Beth at MoneyMaker Racing for their help with suspension and brake upgrades......plus Ford secrets that may never be divulged!

Been tore apart since Fall of 2007. Converting from a Stocker I originally built in 1992 to a SS/AS. Doing 100% of the work myself to even come close to affording it. Looks like I will actually be on track in 2011! I am REAL tired of working on it but it's too late to turn back now! Cant wait to get back out!

Building 1964 Fairlane "Thunderbolt Clone" for stock eliminator. 427 dual 4's, stick shift....oh ya! Car is at chassis shop {PMR} having the science completed, CM cage, rear end, and all necessary finishing work, should be very nice car. 427 may have to wait until next year!

May finally get my NASCAR Hemi out to run this year...or next year or...marriage and kids slows a guy down. Don't know how some of you guys do it. Need to get busy putting it back together.

Threw in some gold metalflake for an old school flavor(can't see that in the photos). Really wanted to paint it Poppy Red like the old 65 Flash Car but I heard that was a Ford color and not permitted. Having fun as always, Alex |
Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
Very cool to see some guys bringing old race cars back from the dead. Good luck with your projects.

Re: Any new S/SS cars being built for 2011
It's really nice to see some folks building new stuff. Even though I'm doing a Corvette, I have always been a Mopar man at heart. The 70 Cuda SS/DA car and the 64 Belvedere/Savoy are really sweet. The 64 and 65 Steve Bagwell cars were my favorites. But, I like anything sittin in the lanes of stock and Super/Stock !
Good luck everyone! Wade Mahaffey |
