Las Vegas
Is it me or what?? I feel like this race has been going on forever. Is Div 7 that slow on getting things done??

Re: Las Vegas
no its called having a lot of cars, got to remember there is more cars in the pits besides SS & Stockers, geeeeze "Come on man"
16 TAD 15 TAFC 75 T/D 55 T/S 47 Comp 101 SS 114 Stockers 138 SC 132 SG 17 N/Harleys 37 Spts Bike = 747 cars, simply wow and i dont want to hear to many classes ect, ect, "It is what it is" |
Re: Las Vegas
I guess we have a smaller car count in Division One.
|
Re: Las Vegas
I agree on the car count Joe..it's alot to get through...But...watching the live video feed now for 2 days..I have to say they can't compare to Bob Lang and the D1 crew.
|
Re: Las Vegas
That's also the opinion of Vinny Barone and Mark Osterbye who are there.
|
Re: Las Vegas
well I will agree D1 doesn't mess around getting cars down the track, i will agree on that one.
|
Re: Las Vegas
how do you think i feel. this is normal operating procedure for us d7 racers.
|
Re: Las Vegas
Joe you forgot SST for a total of 799 cars teched
|
Re: Las Vegas
Jeff, your right i did forget about SST, i knew it was close to 800

Re: Las Vegas
I've raced this Div 7 race a few times and attended it several times, and I agree it took longer than I can ever remember, Totally out of the norm, from getting the cars into the water box, to track prep between classes. Each day seemed to get further behind. Maybe they should go back to the old schedule, things seem to run a little quicker the way they were in the past.

Re: Las Vegas
well if ya figure on 400 PAIRS of cars at about 1 minute per pair figuring in the burnout/staging/the run/lshut down and leaving the track thats about 7 hours of flatout racing not counting any breakage/cleanups or -changing the timing etc between the classes plus about 10-15 minutes every so often to clean/dress/scrape the track it makes for a long day---How fast or how much time do ya thinkl it SHOULD take to run off 800 cars???? Comp 387

Re: Las Vegas
I was there and other than the way they kept changing the schedule there wasn't a whole lot of wasted time. They just couldn't keep to one schedule.
You have to give kudos to the track crew, they worked their asses off from 8:00 till 9 or 10 every night. Harold Owens, the lane master, was on his feet damn near that whole time too, and he's a little bit older than me. I don't know how he does it. It was a huge event and a lot of championships were decided last wekend. |
Re: Las Vegas
Changing the schedule seems to me to be an NHRA thing cuz they literally take over the whole show at a points meet--the Track owners,/mgmt/staff do as they are told by NHRA people----Got a gripe direct it to NHRA not the track personell-----going back to what I said if ya run 400+ pairs of cars how long is an acceptable amount of time to accomplish that feat---Still say it takes 1 minute per pair course the alcohol drippers take about 1/2-1 hour to run a few pairs with all th pre planned oil cleanups figured in--Comp

Re: Las Vegas
Did the top fuel Harleys put more butts in the bleachers than last year?
|
Re: Las Vegas
Those were a pretty cool show I have to say, and yes fans showed up for that, and then left right after.
|
Re: Las Vegas
talking about Harold, if i could afford it i would hire him at all my functions as he has worked for me before and is a damn great staging lanes director.

Re: Las Vegas
I think they were able to get more than 1 pair per minute. Remember burnouts overlap cars in the shut down/turn out area. I used to work at Bandimere in the tower and we were able to get about 3 pair per minute. Classes that burn out across the starting line seemed to take twice as long ~ 1.5 pair per minute.
In any case I thought the track did a great job getting everything done. They seemed to really keep up on the track prep throughout the day and evening no matter what classes were running. This is definitely an improvement over prior years. As far as the schedule goes, I wish they would group category's TT runs and elimination runs together more. I sat around for 8 hours between 1st round and 2nd round. And yes Harold is the best! |
Re: Las Vegas
Because the Vegas track has probably the longest shutdown road around, I would suggest that they open one of the earlier turn-offs to get cars exited of the track faster, thus getting pairs of cars down the track at a faster clip.
Wouldn't that help or should it just be a 4 day Divisional??????? It sure was painful the way the schedule was. |
Re: Las Vegas
The race no doubt needs to be a 4 day race.
|
Re: Las Vegas
Even more painful for us on east coast time. My watch showed 3:00AM for second qualifier in S/S. .. Lincoln looked like a zombie.. I did not look too bad, right Bernie? LOL

Re: Las Vegas

Re: Las Vegas
LOL Bernie - I will take your advice next time. BTW congrats on your runner up.
Ed- I think all the tracks should have that live feed - I had texts and calls after every run from people who were making tuning calls, etc.! Hilarious! |
