Stick shift race

I will keep everyone posted as more info becomes available, but we are in the process of putting together a stick shift race in the midwest for all stick shift organizations as well as anyone else out there who enjoys banging gears. I know there are a lot of you out there.

Location is not known right now. We are trying to have the race at Indy, but this time of year it is hard to get a reply from any track managers as they are wrapping up the 2010 season.

We now have a location and date. May 7 at ORP in Indy. More details to come but hope to see many of you there.

Rory,,,here you go. I wonder if any of the B.C.S.S.s would save up to make the tow to Indy.It could be quite an event. Hopefully it wouldn't conflict with a divisional race date.

Just exactly what is Indy Midwest of? Certainly not Vancouver or Seattle. A stick car race would be way cool though. We do have a few guys around here that can drive one.

Re: Stick shift race

Dale,,,you know I threw that out there because I think its great when the BC Super Shifters come down here to Bremerton twice a year to take on the local gearjammers. I can imagine what a race like this could attract in the way of competitors, with this much lead time and if its promoted well.
I remember that there were over 60 stick cars at Byron Dragway in 2001 for the US Classnationals, a stock/superstock event. I would think a "stick only" event could draw a lot of cars if the word gets out early enough, especially at Indy.
Do you think Peter would take the Cuda out there?,,,how awesome would that be?
I wish these promoters well in pulling this event off.

Well, Peter could afford the time and money for a trip like that. Word is he has a new Barton motor for the 68 'cuda and the motor currently in that car is being de-tuned to run SS/D in the Black car. Fun guy to watch run for sure. Rory would likely have to throw a tune up in his ramp truck before going. Indy is something like 2380 miles from here.

UMTR has recently posed the question of a two day race instead of just Saturday. How many of you would be more likely to attend if it were a two day event?

Just an FYI but Woodburn dragstrip in Oregon is hosting a five race SuperShifter series starting in May. Brian

All our BC Super Shifter races are double headers (race each day). Any kind of travel distance for just a one day deal doesn't make sense to most of us.

Re: Stick shift race

There had been a question on some forums about an engine diaper rule for this race, but it will not be enforced for this year. It will for next year however. Also, camping will be allowed for the two day event, and I got a decent price at Comfort Inn & Suites five miles from the track if anyone is interested.

There is a quick 8, quick stick, and street stick class. Cost for Quick 8/Quick Stick is $60. Street Stick is $30. For all of the details you can go to www.umtrnorth.com. There you can find class rules, etc.
