LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
After a thankfully uneventful 14 hour drive from central NC to US131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich., we're all settled in for the IHRA Northern Nitro Jam (aka Nat'l event, Tournament of Champions qualifying race). Myron said there was no barometer, so it should be "nice" and slow depsite cool morning temps. There's a lot on tap this weekend with the Moser Axle Mania Shootout, where 32 of IHRA's best sportsman racers vie for their share of $50,000+, including $22,500 to the winner. Moser really goes all out for the racers. Early start tomorrow: 8am

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Keep us up to date Michael . I left with my stocker and made it as far as Charleston W V . Had short in trailer and kept popping fuses in the motorhome and 1 trailer flat .At this point i figured someone was trying to tell me something .At midnite i decided to turn around and try to make it back home since i was closer to home than Mi. On the way home 2 more flats on trailer. Before anyone says i should have good tires on trailer ,well they were only one year old .They started seperating between the sidewall and tread(6 ply trailer tires) Goodyear or now in my book" Badyear" .Anyway a 750 mile round trip and finally made it home .Trying to find tires in Mt Airy was a little tough ,Thanks Wal-Mart for a 2 size under tire, but it did make me home eventually. Stockers gets a break this weekend without the trusty ole chevy II being there. However Jr is there with his Q/R whip and i wish him GOOD LUCK. I think i brought all the bad luck back with me as he went on from Charleston to Mi. Sorry for the long post (boy do i miss Drooze RIP )

sorry to hear about your luck with the trailer Danny. At least you were able to make it home.

Got started a little later than they wanted as it was very dewy this morning, so they were out working the track an extra hour. They did group pictures for the Moser Axle Mania qualifiers behind the tower. It's not hot (yet), but it's coming. HUMID. Doesn't feel too bad with a little cross tail, but the car doesn't like the numbers: 70.3 deg, 80%, 28.96, 3078' DA. Already about through with TD as I type... Things are moving right along!

1st Rnd Q, Mike Leopold missed the run due to a bad starter, but they got it fixed for Q2. Burlin Taylor was on the bottom of the sheet originally just from pushing through the beams. Didn't see who broke (#55)
Q2... It never ceases to amaze me just how slow this place can be. It's almost as bad as Bristol. Converter's flashing at least 200 rpm less, and barely turning 6500 in the traps. Anecdotal evidence of anywhere from .07 to .10 slow. 60' was identical... A number of us lost a full mph... In what seems to be a tailwind!! 1:15 PM, 88.3deg, 62%, 28.96, 3840' |
Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Does anyone know why Dan Collville was disqualfied?

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Re: the DQ... Don't know, but it sure shuffled the ladder!
I made wholesale changes to the car every run, dialed down .08 and ran dead-on. Had Hardy by just .001 on the tree as we were both um... conservative this morning. He parked it to take .001 stripe, also dead-on. Pretty awesome job. Check out DRC, as it was a pretty remarkable round of Stock. Lots of guys running the number, while the Hot Rod guys were all over the place. Great job for the class as a whole. |

They let us la-hooo-zers get into the ET class since their field wasn't full. .023 and dead-on, back in the game, or "a" game at least. Got to shoot some finish line of Rnd 2 of Stock. I'll process and post those pics when I get home. Currently on hold for some verrry light drizzle.
The remainder of the Moser Axle Mania shootout is scheduled for tonight, with Myron Piatek (Stk) and Brandon Peterson (SS) left standing to represent the bottom-bulbers. |
Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Dan's car caught fire on his first run.

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
After a delay, got back to running. Won Rnd 2 of No-Box when my guy shifted low to high. Had another sprinkle, but they're back at it after another delay.

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
SS: Clayton over Cummings (-004 breakout)
Stk: Folk over Boertman (red) Moser Axle Mania 1/4-Finals, Myron Piatek (Stk) defeated a red-lighting Brian Folk (Super Rod). Folk is still in with his Top Dragster, and will run Brandon Peterson (SS) to complete the round (been running Funny Car while we waited for Folk to get back, and then had an oildown.). If Folk wins, he'll have to run Piatek AGAIN, in the semis. Bo Upton and Dave Elrod (both dragsters) are going into the semis... Here they come... SS/Production Deuce vs a Top Dragster, 6.90 to 4.80. (1/8th mile, no Crosstalk). Tree's in shadow... Folk's out -.003, Peterson's dead-on ZERO! It'll be two bottom-bulb class cars going head to head, and 2 dragsters. Peterson drives for Homer Carty, who has a Win and a RU in this event. |
Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Moser semis... Swap lanes. 7.29 for Myron, 6.90 for Brandon
7.319 to a -003 breakout.... MYRON'S in the finals! Vs..... Bo Upton, 4.66w on a 4.65 over Elrod |
Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
$22,500 to win, $7,500 to runner -up, all thanks to Moser Engineering. (And they fed everybody, too!). Myron Piatek, footbraking a Stocker, taking on Bo Upton's dragster. Myron has dreamed of winning this event, just so he can hoist not only the custom Moser Axle trophy, but also his Converse AllStars to signify the dominance of Footbraking over delay boxes... Will it be this year?

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Myron's -.004 under for the RU, but a huge payday nonetheless, and a great showing once again for the Stock contingent.

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Great job Myron, he is one of the best!!
Thanks Mike for keeping everyone updated. It is sad that there were only 38? stockers at that race. I remember when there was usually 70+ cars. I guess it is a sign of the times. Jeff Day #3731 PS. Hey Mike, anyone from Martin planning on coming to Quaker City next weekend for the bottom bulb race? |

Re: LIVE from Martin, MI Nitro Jam
Thanks everyone. Even though I didn't win, it was like a dream come true just to be in the final. I bought a set of Moser axles the first year they came out with the program. Needless to say, they have been a good investment.
